  1. Just be sure to have the camels checked out by a qualified mechanic before sealing the deal. Have a great time.
  2. I'd like to take issue with one other point that Eye Surgeon makes. He argues that the people here knowingly buy crap movemetns and could get better real watches for similar to what we pay for reps. The second half of that argument is probably valid, but I don't agree with the first part. First off, reps in the $100 range are probably equal in quality to similarly priced real watches-- with the caveat that the genuines are more likely to sport quartz movements, which most members here avoid for the most part. When you get into mid-priced to higher=priced reps with ETA or Venus/Lemania movements, many people here have extremely high standards and have studied these movements scrupulously (based on dissections by experts like The Zigmeister) before making their purchases. Quality control may not be inconsistent in rep factories in regard to cleanliness, lubrication, and adjustment, but I have a high degree of confidence in the long-term reliability of the movements in my better reps. If necessary, one service should take care of these inconistencies. And personally, I don't know think you can say that you would get the same quality in a $200-$300 genuine with a manual or automatic movement. In a gen Omega or Rollie certainly, but then you've already spent more than for two or three quality reps.
  3. At least he has found the solution to giving all of the watches in his collection enough wrist time. But now I want to know which RWG members regularly wear two or more watches at once?
  4. This is my opinion--> there is real Swiss chocolate, and there are rep Swiss chocolate wanna-be's, just as there are good quality automatic and manual movements, and there is quartz.
  5. Count me as one of those guys who mostly wears jeans and a polo or t-shirt to work. And I work with people who wear similar (or even more ordinary) clothing. But most are pretty well off, and many have great cars and houses, and some even wear very nice watches, such as Breitlings and Rolexes. So most of my reps blend in quite nicely. Having said that, I still would not wear a watch that is inappropriate to me, which means I lean toward "sporty dressy." Although I do not completely disagree with eye surgeon's initial post, I might point out that our commander in chief, supposedly the most powerful man on earth (much as it pains me to say that) wears a casio or timex. And you have hip hop "artists" (and it pains to pair those two terms as well) who wear APs and Daytonas. In addition rock stars, and other creative types can be swimming in cash, wear torn jeans (doesn't it get you when torn jeans sell for several hundred dollars?)... and wear very nice watches. By the way, Ron, I like the self portrait in your new avatar.
  6. The good news is that American television will broadcast more matches than ever before. The bad news is that games will start at times such as 9 in the morning, so I'll either be distracted from work following Internet updates, or record them and try to avoid any news reports until I make it home. (Let's not even think about matches that will be taking place while I'm sitting in critical meetings. ) At work the German contingent has commandeered one cafeteria for a kickoff celebration tomorrow morning, and the Brazilians are taking over yet another cafeteria to celebrate their initial match. By the end of the cup my workplace has enough "foreigners" from all countries that I expect it to become a bit crazy. Let the festivities begin!
  7. It depends on your definition of a beater. In my book a beater is a watch that I'd wear while doing chores, biking, or hiking and if it gets scratched up I won't be as upset as I would be if the same happened to any of my first string watches. In my case I use a first generation Planet Ocean as my primary beater, followed by my "panda" (white face, black subdials) Speedmaster. They get a lot of wear during the day on Saturdays and Sundays, but during the week and evenings I like to wear something nicer and appropriate for the occasion, or just to indulge myself.
  8. Didn't basketball season finish up around the first of April? Pro basketball playoffs last so long that at the end almost the only people who care are the people in the two cities left standing. Good luck and best wishes to fans of both teams (although I have never been a Shaq fan :yucky: ). Fortunately the World Cup is just days away. I've already programmed quite a few matches into my DVR.
  9. Considering this is RWG, you just earned your screen name. For today, 192 is my choice. For Saturday or Sunday, I'll have to see how I feel.
  10. I would have thought the most popular search phrase would be something like "best Sub" or "How to get a date with Miss Understood"
  11. Admin, I have a sense that you are going to land on your feet and that in a year or two you will look back on this as a good thing, a "forced opportunity," if you will. In any case, I hope they do right by you in the way of a severance package. I was laid off one time.... following a merger. I knew it was coming, but decided to hang around for a severance package rather than make it easier on them by simply leaving. My biggest concern was that they might "value me" enough to give me some dead-end position that I would then have to quit without severance. Thank goodness they didn't have anything for me, so the severance package paid for my move from Chicago to the West coast. I remember practically dancing down the hallway after being laid off, but I couldn't express it because everyone who still had a job was depressed about the merger. Good luck. You have the intelligence and resources to do some terrific things in the next few years. And finally (to quote Klink), Life is Good!
  12. In my case I had a repair guy reattach the bottom pusher after it came off. I had screwed it back on by hand, but it came off one time too often. Fortunately I never lost the button. The top pusher jammed around the same time. I also wanted this repair guy's opinion on the cleanliness and lubrication of the movement. I was pleased that he considered it in otherwise good condition. I admire people like Krusty who can do their own light service, but if you have never done this or are in the least bit uncomfortable doing so, I strongly urge you to find a decent watch repair person to do the job right.
  13. If this was a scam, the bum should be banned -- or at least have his board name/avatar defaced in an appropriately prankish way. By the way, Ken, I am a dirty old man. I've paid my dues since being a dirty young rascal who bought his first issue of Playboy at the age of 13, and I've been a consistent fan of beautiful women since then. So I wear the label dirty old man with pride.
  14. Wrong regarding Neil. Thailand, I believe.
  15. Certain dealers boast of inspecting and mailing every watch personally. I don't know if this happens with absolutely every watch they sell, but at least that is their reputation. Over time, this reputation results in increased sales for a greater variety of watches -- not all of which the dealer has in possession. So perhaps he comes to rely on one or more assistants located closer to the factory. You are one customer, and perhaps the dealer is exchanging e-mails with 20 or 30 customers at one time. By the time you are ready to order (that is, after you have exchanged those 20 ro so e-mails you mentioned) , the dealer may be transmitting 10, 20, or 30 orders to his agent and/or factory, so the result of your 20 e-mails at this point is little different than an order from someone who only needed one or two e-mails. Let's say the agent packages five, or 10, or 15 Panerai orders at one time. How hard would it be to accidentally swap outtwo mailing labels? [censored] happens. It's frustrating, but true, whether you are dealing with a rep dealer or Amazon. Having said that, any dealer worth his salt will work things out with you, and expedite delivery of the correct watch to you. I truly hope your frustration and disappointment are ameliorated and your request resolved. Good luck.
  16. ....preferably with Eva Green wearing it!
  17. Edge, I was going to comment that the first two posts in this thread were from Scotsmen, and at a rather late hour on a Sunday to boot. For me it's merely late afternoon. You gents clearly have heart and soul.
  18. This has been a laid back weekend, overall, so I've been giving this one some make-up time. I haven't worn it much lately, but the YM really is an amazing watch design
  19. Ain't No Cure for Love by Leonard Cohen -- but particularly when sung by Jennifer Warnes (check out her Famous Blue Raincoat album). JTB, hope everything is OK. We're with you in spirit.
  20. What a heart-stopping, heart braking race. For a few minutes I thought we would see Andretti and Andretti finish first and second. Instead they are second and third, and Hornish pulled out a picture perfect last second finish. I love the 500, having attended twice. This was one of the best.
  21. She just posted in new offers--new Seamasters at nice prices.
  22. I feel for Danica. She seems to have more pressure on her than others have. If she doesn't win, some people are going to call her another Kournikova. None of the other young racers have that kind of pressure. If not this year, she should still get good opportunities for many years based on her merits, not based on her looks. But she is a babe, too.
  23. I am. Halfway mark. Very clean race so far, with only two yellows so far. I hope that continues. Strong field, with lots of atrractive, potential winners. Andrettis, Patrick, Kannaan, Wheldon.
