Ok, I'm at a friend's son's wedding, talking to a guy. I notice his watch. It's a Casio. But not a modern one. One from the 80s. He had 2 back then, loved them, paid $49 each. Had one stolen, lost one to water damage. Has two more now. This one and an identical one. Ebay purchases. One for $500, one for $2000. Yup, two grand for a "classic" Casio calculator watch from the 80s.

Am I the only one here without a Sub? My SD seems to make me awfully happy, tho. Either way, beautiful watch!

Yeah, the one on the left is the new one. Guess that's the order in which they uploaded, tried to make it the other way. But it should load with the name "before.jpg" and "after.jpg" as well to let you know for sure. The original was so awful that I didn't wear the watch as much as I'd like. Now I'll not worry. I spotted a salesman with a Sub that had the same flat, awful pearl. Easy tell. So much happier now, I love the clean look of the SD. Now it's even better. -

YAHOOOOOOOO!!!!! Got my SD back today from Flav. Beyooootyful!!!! Before (flat pearl) and after (better pearl, one I'd be seen with, haha!). Even with Flav's crazy mod workload, he turned this around in days. Grateful for that, and more importantly for the proper job he did. THANKS AGAIN, FLAVOR FLAV!!! -
lcdr, Wait till you have one, you'll know you made the right decision. It's a gorgeous timepiece.

Chief, Your writeup on the AR coating was great! I think I may be in for the next run. I'm going to check on the Breitling forum about what it'll take for my Bentley GT. I'm not a watch tinkerer at this point, anxiously awaiting my SD from Flav, may get it tomorrow. From the pics it looks even more beautiful. May need help removing my crystal... Regardless, you and I are on the same side of the U.S., would love to have this done, though I'd want to find out approximate timing, etc. before I go on vacation.

IWC Cousteau Divers or Superocean Steelfish?
Antonio replied to add46.88's topic in General Discussion
FWIW, I LOVE my Steelfish from Josh. Has gotten me many complements from watch lovers and non-watchies alike. It's heavy, beautiful and accurate. -

It was on ebay. I checked here and only found one gen insert, it was scratched and the pearl looked damaged, and it was expensive. The one I found was decent, way better than the standard flat Josh pearl, and under $20. Figured I'd try, looked good in the photos, looked as good in person. -
After a year on here, owning a few watches, finally decided to mod one. Or have it modded, really. My beautiful Josh SD is in the capable hands of Flav for a bezel insert replacement (Call me a wimp for not doing it myself, but after seeing Flav's work...). I know he's got a few watches ahead of mine, so I'll wait patiently. Drooling. Dreaming about how great it's gonna look! Thankfully my Bentley GT and SF will keep me sane in the mean time. I have before pics of the flat original bezel pearl. Will post those with after pics, sourced a much better (still aftermarket) insert.

Ubi, LOVE the AP. Where might I find one? You can PM me...

Review of the Breitling aeromarine Superocean Steelfish.
Antonio replied to Seadweller4000's topic in Other Watch Reviews
Great review, thanks for posting! Great to have such good info for getting in conversations, as below. My Steelfish started a conversation with the people at the next table at a restaurant, handed it over to a guy with a Sub that I'm pretty sure wasn't a rep, I handled his as well. No flaws I could see, felt light but looked good. We talked watches for a bit. -
Love that. Actually, that's one of the few Garmin devices with Mac compatibility. Still waiting for it on my 60CSx. Yours is smaller than mine (My CGs are ridiculously huge... haha).

Funny, a year here and no sub for me, but I did start off with a Seadweller (liked the aesthetic). I want to eventually add to my 3 current reps: Yachtmaster. Simple, still Rolex, no pearl problems. AP ROO with ETA. If I can afford it. Actually like the non-chrono ones, but nobody is currently making the jumbo version as a rep. Had the normal one, but it never worked. Still might try again as I liked the style. HBB if it's ever available with a real 7750 (not asian). Love the watch. Actually, my Bentley GT has an Asian 7750, I think I'm lucky because it's been doing well so far (knock wood). Breitling Super Avenger. I have the Steelfish, love it, would like the chrono big-[censored] brother. I don't like the BCE's crown, it bugs me. And the BSA is 49mm!!! If only in ETA... Still need a dressier watch. The AP would have been somewhat more formal, but haven't decided beyond that.

My new Steelfish from Joshua. I've a shoot today, if I have time I'll get the model to wear it for a shot.

I'm tired of my noisy winder, the "burl wood" ebay piece of rubbish. Half of the board burned out so it only turns one of the two motors now. And my other winder doesn't wind enough for some of my watches. Even partial disassembly and extra lubrication of the motor only quiets it down a tiny bit, for about a day. I'm going to make my own, kind of a DIY project. Does anyone know where I can get the part that holds the watches (with the slots for the pillows). I'm interested in getting a few matched ones so I can gather the other parts I'll need on the outside. Deciding on gear driven or belt driven, the latter may be quieter. Anyone have a few matched ones from broken winders that would want to sell/ship them to me? Happy to pay shipping and will of course eventually put up pictures/instructions if/when I get it put together.

I've used "Sample watch" or "Watch parts" several times, per the dealer, and it's worked every time going from the States to the dealer in China. So far, so good. The dealers know what works best, use their advice. It's their business to know this stuff.

Nice pics! I think the black is right, but instead of white, isn't the other face on the gen silver? I have never figured this out, so I haven't sold myself on getting one. Do love the look of the watch.
-
I went for the black face and SS band. Beautiful. I'm loving it, though it hasn't gotten much wrist time yet. Still want to do a couple of photos of it.

Holy Sh*t, whoever offered the rep defibrillator, you kick ass! Thanks for one of the best laughs of the weekend!!!! I love all you guys.

[censored] me. I love RWG, that scared me. I'm a loyal supporter. FWIW, though, I appreciate a sense of humor. Good on whoever did that. Cheers, Antonio

Got in the new Steelfish from Joshua. It's fantastic. Solidly built, I pulled the crown out to set date/time and it winds wonderfully. Caught my breath as I looked at the face. It makes me as happy to look at it as my SD and other watches. Beautiful detailing. Had the band resized at my local watch shop, he thought it was the gen. For whatever reason he doesn't remember me coming in and admitting reps before. I've seen (and participated in) the big thread in general discussion. This watch was a replacement for an AP that wasn't working, Joshua made good on it as he has on other things in the past. I'm not trying to be a fanboy, but I am impressed with the service I've had from Joshua. Pics to come eventually.

"Watch Critic" section is good. I like that idea. And if everyone can jump in and toss in their own 2

Corgi's got some good points. I've read 13-14 pages into this so far, and some on the other forum. I agree that we should all keep each other informed, and pressure the dealers to be honest. To be honest, so far I've ONLY bought watches from Joshua. But I like buying from him. His communication is great, answering my questions honestly. He knows my tastes and expectations, and has talked me out of a few watches. I've never been misinformed, all purchases have been as ordered. I've had two watches of the many that arrived with problems. My Bentley GT had a date issue, the dates wouldn't come into alignment, so he shipped me a replacement immediately, the two watches must have passed in the air. Had an AP that wouldn't wind. Sent it to him, he couldn't repeat the problem, so he sent it back. We thought maybe the rotor was not able to move against the caseback, so he send me another caseback free of charge. That didn't work, so I sent the watch back, he credited me in full, ate the shipping and I upgraded to a Steelfish which should be here tomorrow. As for the cartel, maybe it's just on this watch? I'm playing devil's advocate here, but perhaps these guys banded together and commissioned that watch just for themselves. I know nothing about that side of the industry, but do know that in some industries, particular parts or products are created for just a couple of sellers, leaving others out to create one for themselves. It creates an interest, and eventually similar products come out from other manufacturers. I love this open dialogue, and do think that a subforum would be a good idea. Talk about problems in a civil manner, and offer dealers a chance to also talk about it. If we all work together, there will be less problems and friendlier, more open transactions.
