this does not mean that the package has been siezed .. it could be a number of things .. customs can "hold" the parcel for a long period.. i have forgotten the exact amount of time.. Iwas thinking 90 day's but that seems a long time in the back of my memory... if they have siezed it you would have received a letter by now .. but this is disturbing .. non the less. My concern after all the trade news and negative publicity about counterfiet items coming from china.. Remember all it will take is a directive from the Attorney Generals Office ... and with the pressure that could come from the Swiss Federation .... all we can do is hurry up and wait...
-
Yes,... 2 boxes .. value ... 900 usd .. and all that was in the box from Geneve was the very nice wrappers that covered the varnished spanish cedar boxes .. it's a good thing the parcels don't come directly to hawaii since we are a MAJOR port city ..
-
Kenberg hit it on the head .. 5 watches ... should not send more than 2 ,3 max in one shippment.. the concern with customs would be .. RE-sale for commercial use .. DO NOT REPLY TO THE LETTER .... If you are questioned by Home land Security ... emphasize that you are not in the watch or jewelry business.. and that these were not for resale.. customs is concerned with for profit business' You may be on their "list" .. As I have posted before.. Port cities are the worst since 9-11 for customs... and Guess what SFO is.. I am talking from first hand experience, (not watches.. but i sat down with customs agents and they briefed me on how to do things legally).. if it was 5 watches of the same model.. that is not good. Now, you may have to use a friend (different name) .. or have it sent to the Mid-west ... if you know anyone there... customs is relaxed there.. the other alternative but it is pricey is Fed -ex or UPS.. if your collector ships that way.. they use customs brokers who are not Federal Govt. officials and as long as the shippers paper work is in order it will be fine.. But bottom line is DO NOT RESPOND TO ANY letters that are sent to you and definately do not contest the siezure.. I had 1 box of XXXXX cofinscated and was sent an empty box with the wrappers of the article crumpled up and thrown in the empty box... the next time it was a visit by customs agents to my door.. luckily I was not home .. I met with them at the gym,.. I felt at ease there... they do have a sick sense of humor .. to send an empty box with the letter and the wrappers as rubbish

SUBSCRIBING MEMBERS[/font] These are my thought...instead of "Supporting" why not have "Subscribing" ... Guest are allowed X number of Log Ins.. then have the choice to "Subscribe" or not .... the subscription rate pays for the monthly bill and is not there for profit.. this rate could actually be lower than the suppoter rate... thus users who become members benefit from the information available and the same members that contribute monthly won't be asked annually. If the forum keeps growing as it has then there will come a day when our donations cannot meet the problem of the monthly usage fee. we are "Partners" in the suvival of this Forum... I would rather use that term .. because as members we are not bound to donate anything.. Again give people the choice and most will pass on any kind of "fee", or donation .. and subsribing does not have any hiearchy attached,if that bothers some then we are all Subscribers .. Are we about bragging our numbers ?? or are we going to step forward and come up with a solution that will benefit the whole ?? In the newsapaper industry .. profit is made by people and companies who buy AD space.. some can spend up to 20k a month .. this is how the paper makes it's "profit" .. the subscription fee is to pay for the printing of the Paper and circulation.. the AD's on the Forum does not even come close to these figures ... so you cannot compare AD space in other media industries... We need to look at a communal enviornment.. if there are those who think everyone should be "thought' of and treated as equals then the solution may be to have all "Partners" pay a subscription fee ... Grandfather the existing "supporters" and when that is expired they pay an annual subscription fee .. everyone pays the same .. that should be determined by how we fair making the numbers.. This suggestion is not to "lock' anyone out or be elitist .. but to stay current with the ever changing demands of the World... Semantics... are Semantics.. this is about keeping the forum available for everyone.

Established ..... Rolex... IWC ... established .. Prestiege.. History ... but most of all Marketing and ignorance by the general Public..... I believe "Class Societies" .. have defined what we drive to what we wear and where we are "seen" .. why do people pay thousands of dollars to become members of elite country clubs ... maybe it has to do with you can only feel really comfortable with your own kind of people ?? Or it defines your "Class" ... or is it so you can golf at some of the "Best " courses... a little of everything ??? so if a Seiko keeps better time than any other time piece .. why would you choose a Rolex ... when you have to pay 1000 usd for a servicing and overhaul? so you can say... A servicing for a Rolex cost XXXXX amount of dollars ?? Is it about POWER ?? For lack of a more sophisticated word.. I can afford the same golf clubs that the pros use ... if I could afford their cars would I .. in a New York Minute ... although I have known very wealthy individuals that wear a timex.. they are called essentric...LOL ... Japan is a great example of you are what you wear, drive, and not where you travel but in what style ... every fiber of their culture is this way.... I have a friend that wore only rolex.. now he wears Invicta's ... he say's it keeps better time.. wow, Imagine That... Invicta has been around just as long as rolex i think.. imagine if Invicta had the breaks and marketing .. maybe the roles would be reversed.. societies create "Norms" .. Rules by which you are socially acceptable ... so would a Wall St. Broker be seen wearing an Invicta when all other "sucsessful associates" are wearing Rolex ?? I believe history from the time of Rome and before will hold this opinion to have some merit..

recieved my 3717 today.... that was really fast ems from GZ on thursday.. recieved Monday morning ... it was processed quickly through customs.. LAX seems a lot faster than SFO the bracelet was a easy link removal ... it seems that all the screw down crowns need to be handled with extreme care when turning the crown in to srcew it down for the first 5 to 8 times... feels like the threads need to seat within each other... for the first time I alway's end up screwing it down and then come against resistance... unscrew it and do it again until there is absolutely no resistance.. I do this very slowly and if I feel any resistance .. back off and start over.. After awhile the threads seem to find their groove and this is not an issue anymore... just my thoughts on the screw down crowns. I saw a BIG Pilot someone had on at the coffee shop the other day.. and I was mezmerized by the crown... it looked HUGE .. I hope someday the collectors can find some maker who could take that project on and come out with a quality rep of the big Pilot.. Now I can't wait to get my straps .. which i ordered last week from Kurt at Watch Boys ...after seeing Raymonds straps .. thank you for taking a peek at my 3717 Lanikai

I do not know internet Law or if this is an offshore account or if the "donatoin" has something to do with internet taxes .... but what is obvious to me is this will take a toll month after month ... as long as everything is on a volunteer donation principle then the majority of members will depend on the old guard to pay the bills.. RWG has more knowledge than the genuine sites IMHO..... on movements because we have the members..ie: the best Horologist (ziggy).. sssurfer, Pugwash, Bytor, Kruzer, Andrew,... Lello... chieftang .. all these members and more contribute knowledge at no cost we have Vbarrett if you are unsure of straps and V who makes them.. so with that said (again).. I don't find it out of line to have a "registration" fee in place after a so called Grace period to check out the site.. If this is not breaking any Non-profit law.. because this site would fall under the "education" of non-profit organizations... what would be wrong.. all the reviews that are brilliantly done are not here for profit.. but the bills need to be paid.. I find no guilt or ethical negativity in having some sort of fee in place for the use of this site.. we can philisophiclly go on about the need for doing the right thing.. and in the end the same members will gladly pony up for the rest of the members who will not.. common people we are talking about 1 hambuger a month.. not a 5 star dinner your giving up ... we are talking hambuger helper not the Four Seasons here ... the admin team (i think) needs to look into this thought ... we are talking the survival of this Forum.. no one wants to see this disolved or another admin team ... Please give it some thought.. it can be tweaked and polished later.. i would like to see some kind of registration fee in place even if it's 5 usd .. and more areas restricted for the "subscribing Members" (and there is a phrase that say's it all "subscribing") thank you.........Lanikai

I do believe that it is 'TIME" that a registration fee is implemented ... 5 or 10 usd every 6 months to cover "costs" .. the thought of volunteer donations may have worked 2 years ago but the forum has grown to the point where this is a nice "thought" but in reality will not work .. for much longer we can have all the "bake sales" and raffles but I believe .. a reality check is in order.... if you give people the "option" to donate or not 99 % will opt to "not" .. human nature being what it is... people will alway's pass the buck and wait for the "other" to do the grunt work... So with that being said .. if members who "choose" not to donate but use the other members who do donate for information and direction in "saving" them money or directing them to the best reps... (because many of us learned by spending our money on bad reps or movements) and passing this on to others so they wouldn't make the same mistake... we made mistakes so they don't have to go through the same process.. I am not here to support members who want to ride the "coat tail" of those who month after month will donate because this Forum has become more than just an online chat room... I have made friends here and have made value added purchases... I have learned of different cultures around the world .. I have learned to accept others opinions and still disagree ... or vis versa .... so in closing I say..... REGISTRATION FEE .. and be done with this monthly stress to the Admin Team.... and so we all can stand on common ground.. Why do we "need" members who are going to use this forum and it's members knowledge and inventory of sources if they cannot even chip in a little?? if they leave .. so what? they leave ... sorry I am getting a bit worked up here .... BUT REALLY... either chip in or ship out.. that's all >>>LOL>>> I have to say (for now) Lanikai

I read all the posts and agree with everyone and everthing that has been said..But I do believe it is "time" that at least a registration fee should be paid before the Forum is available to members who have not at least donated to keeping the Forum running.. what is the wrong in doing that.. I believe if you give people the option 99% sill opt. not to pay a "registration' fee...The thought that this forum should be open to all and donations should be volunteer may have worked 2 years ago and may still be working if the membership were not at the numbers it is now..But let's be REAL .,.. I think a Realty Check is in order here.. this Forum is "Value Added" to "everyones" hobby or single purchase of Reps. ... even a one time buyer benefits from this forum !!!!! A 5 or 10 dollar registration fee every 6 months should cover it.. and it should be implemented for all members who have not donated or upgraded their membership ..... heck if people cannot even kick in a dollar a month ... I don't believe in free lunches for those who can afford steak and lobster dinners..and if these members leave ... their loss not the Forums .. .. Sorry I am getting worked up but I think it has come time to draw a line and for the survival and so that the SAMEI read all the posts and agree with everyone and everthing that has been said..But I do believe it is "time" that at least a registration fee should be paid before the Forum is available to members who have not at least donated to keeping the Forum running.. what is the wrong in doing that.. Actually, I am getting the new A7750 28k as this movement has "proven" to be 100 % better than the older 7750 21600 ... and it is being loaded into the Postal truck for delivery today as i type this ... pics to follow later today ... hope so..., cause.. it's Monday ..and with that comes Monday night Football.. Dluddy's team vs. the Cicinatti Bengals (Carson Palmer) .. should be a Good game if bengals defense can contain the explosive O of NE... but don't bet on that happening .. New England by 2 TD'

Ditto,.. done

Ken, I am reading this a little differently... I look at it as this is not an easy site to host , and members who choose to take and not give back do not realize what it takes to host this site or any site with this much traffic that is not a "for profit business" ... I may be totally off base .. but I believe what is trying to be said is it's time for the members who use this site to start pitching in so we can all enjoy it's benefits... and if they think it's easy let them try to "Host" it and maybe realize what it takes to achieve just a monthly balance sheet.. Or at least that is what I would "like to think it meant".. Personally, I believe the current Admin who started and maintain this site, (I am assuming this) are accomplishing what most cannot..... with a passion.. so Thank You to the founding admin team .. you will have my support ... one member at a time is all we can hope for. There will alway's be those who take and those who realize what it takes to "STAY" and "GROW" ... In Hawaii .. the word "Lokahi" is unity .. we can do together what cannot be done alone.. Lanikai

I have a question?? is there a difference in the 4 in the 45 @ the 9 on the bezel .. I would love to get the TI rep but that one has a closed 4 as does the super avenger

the A7750 28800 is by Ziggy's review the best movement out at the moment... the problem is the fact that it could run much better with proper servicing .. the old 7750 was and is very tempermental.. sometimes takes running for a week before it starts to be accurate.. takes time to break in.. the cousteau .. a few things to be aware of, the day date does not alway's align properly.. make sure you alway's set the hands at 5:30 before setting the day date.. the bezel does not have the exact amount of clicks .. but half a turn will line it up perfectly .. same with the older model .. i plan to send both of mine to ziggy when the opportunity arises .. i am happy with the IWC cousteau and will be that much more once ziggy gets his hands on them . (the day date is by his standards an easy fix) these watches with the A7750 all need to be serviced anyway if you want them to perform "exellent" .. but out of the box much, much better than the 7750
-
Corgi, Please check out Ziggy's info on movements at least you can find there the problem ergo the solution .. and mail Ziggy.. he has my complete trust and your watch will be in good hands.. he is at the moment trying to resurect the 029 I had problems with... i would be more than happy to order a new movement but he is trying to fix the problems I had with another modder .. so the point is i would not trust my watch to anyone else .. at least read the info he has..put your mind at rest my friend.. all will be well corgi
-
same thing happened to a watch of mine.. check out Ziggy's watch info on movements you will find what the problem is .. it is a simple fix for someone that knows what they are doing.. (not me) .. but check it out.. i don't want to misquote Ziggy's info..
