Try spendin over $2000.00 on a gen and after the usual waiting agnst , it shows up and winds like turning a spoon in rocks. So my watchmaker cracks it open and finds: So back it goes. The seller (Whom I have had past dealings with) immediately puts a replacement watch in a FedEx Express package and now the wait begins anew All in all, it will work out pretty good. The initial watch was a 1991 14060 and the replacement is a T serial 14060M. Pics when it gets here.....Tomorrow I suspect. Stay tuned.........

Pug, I didn't re-drill before tapping. Simply use a cutting fluid, and run the tap in. Remember to back it out every so often to clear the shavings. Once you run the tap all the way through, clean the tap and case then run it through again....gently. Now you are ready to install the new tube. make sure you have counter sunk the case for the gen tube to sit flush. I should have taken som pictures of the 5 I did....but I am a selfish bastard and impatient to boot. I should be sending your........stuff shortly. I would be glad to include my tap and Rolex tube insertion tool for your use. Of course, you would have to return them after your project. Kurt.

I put mine next to a gen and hand ground/sanded measured with a digital caliper and this was as good as I could get. Here is my 1680:

Here are a few in progress shots of my projects: 1665 WM/DRSD. Gen Crown and Tube, Gen Springbars, case drilled for spring bars by hand(no drill or press) and internal edges beveled, centered date(waiting on the new datewheels to install my slow-beat movement), case worked over, egdes softened, caseback distressed and Gen end links on order. Next, 5513. Mods: Slow beat movement, case work to bring down the thickness, Gen Tube and Crown, Gen Springbars, case drilled for spring bars by hand(no drill or press) and internal edges beveled, crystal worked, softened and rounded. I have a Gen Reolex Tropic 19 (2 in fact) but probably will not bother with them as this isn't an WM/MBW and it doesn't fit. Both watches have been regulated by me and keep time to +4-6 secs/day. Please offer your suggestions and opinions as I perfect my craft. Thanks in advance, Kurt.

The stem would have to be changed. The indents (what that little push pin releases from when removing the stem) sets in the spacing of the stem itself. You would have to get a stem from an ETA non-date caliber of the same series or file down the ident position you want to eliminate and your problem would be solved........I think. I mean, I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night so I've got that going for me....

What? Are you serious? I mean, anyone....even the noobiest noob can see the crown gaurds are way too skinny. Methinks someone got carried away with a Dremel. The rest however is as accurate as I have ever seen for this model. Nice get....

I just complete my two MBW's using a Pin vise, cutting fluid and 2 #57 drill bits followed by 2 #56 bits and a #53 to give a slight inner bevel. It didn't take long and thbits were bought at a local hobby train store. I'll post some pics later. The whole modding on my watches including the CG's were done by hand with lots-O-patience and blisters. The final polish was partly done using my dremel. Doing it by hand didn't take as long as you think once you get the feel for the bit's limitations. Fun stuff huh. Kurt.

Thanks for the reply. The 1655 is original and unfortunately........it isn't mine. A good friend's Father in-law owns it and at one point, I almost talked him out of it......but, I would not have been able to deal with guilt I finally convinced him to give me a few hours with the watch to bring some decency back to it. I removed the bezel, bracelet and crystal. Cleaned the bracelet, polished the crystal, cleaned up the case and re-assembled it with the bezel in the proper position. Unfortunately, I was so excited with the results....I forgot to snap some after pictures.....DOH! I am sure he will give me the opportunity to catalog the results and I will post a follow up. As for the mods, I have a really good friend/watchmaker with a Rolex account. So I can get all things (Excluding inserts and dials) at a very good price. So, I have decided to mod the 5 vintage pieces I have to give a realistic appearance. Gen Crowns/Tubes, gaskets and crystals. Slow beat movements that have serviced/regulated, and true appearance that represents the age and use of the watches. I have always loved the subtle curve the vintage pieces have to their cases as well as the appearance the piece takes on from an owner who enjoys wearing the watch. Hopefully I have come close and with a search for Gen dials/inserts, I feel these watches will absolutely pass muster(not that I care if anyone thinks they are Gens), I am trying to replicate the look and feel of every vintage Rolex sport watch I have owned, sold and regretted letting go. If you have owned or own a Gen, look down the lug side and you will see what I mean. Also, in modding these vintage pieces, most of the time, the results don't appear to have the age and scars such a piece would accumulate. Submitted for your feedback is the work I am doing to achieve these features. I am also considering offering work to members if my vision and skill is desired. So, without further ado, I give you.....extreme mods... 5513 with case mods, new Gen Crown/Tube. Slow beat movement on the way and case holes to be drilled for Gen Springbars. Gen dial is being sought as well as gen bracelet. Next on the bench, 5517, case work started, slow beat movement in place, gen crown installed awaiting gen tube. original fiaxed pins removed (to give it a civilianized look), Gen spring bars in place. Dial rotated for lefty appearance. A little something to make every Rolex Lover Pant..... All original(except crystal, 1655 Orange hand dream watch. Thanks to all for the critiques and commentary. My watchmaker....also a very good friend, had no idea the Red guy was a rep. This man has been a watchmaker (Rolex Certified) for over 15 years. He helps me out with parts and tools and sells everything to me at 10% above cost.....except bezels dammit. Thanks again and a BIG shout out to The Tigers of LSU kicking Da'Irishe's aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaassssssssssssssssssssssss. Geaux Tigers! Now, back to perfecting my craft.....

OK, WM Red Sub came to me with OEM spring bars, poorly worked CG's, bad non-OEM tube/crown and the bezel gasket glued to the insert. The Crystal compression ring had been knicked (to give some friction to it) and the OEM127 crystal was in need of replacing. So, I worked the case and tried to make the CG's look decent. Tapped the case and installed an OEM tube and triplock crown. Also, added gasket under crystal compression ring when I installed the new OEM 127 crystal as well as fixed the tension washer. It works like the gen now. won't turn unless you apply downward pressure and turn. Removed the bezel pearl and tried my hand at ageing the insert a bit. The watch has been serviced and is keeping time at +3 secs/day. New caseback gasket installed, bracelet sanded polished sanded polished brushed and re-installed with new OEM springbars. Really worked on making the case look it's age. The bracelet sucks and I am in search of a quality rep period to this watch. Enough of the alphabet soup.....here are some pics......still need a better insert and or vintage pearl. Anybody? First, a family and friends pic... Now, on to Big Red...
