The secret ingredient... is sweat! Several weeks before that picture was taken, I'd been on vacation in Kyoto and spent half the day walking around in 35C heat. The aging process took just a few hours. Once the top layer of the strap went damp... that was it. The following day I had it on a NATO strap to prevent further damage.
Here's how it looked when I first got it:
There were a couple on eBay a few months ago, but they don't seem to show up too often.
Maybe I should've bought one. If I ever do start a Monte Carlo build, I'd hate to have one with a red date!
There'd better be music playing through those subdials!
Too fussy for my tastes. If Omega wants to make such a 3D, in-your-face, metallic dial, I would prefer if they designed a new case to go with it, rather than recycle the old bomb
Still trying to figure it out. I thought for sure that I saw a similar one on J&W a year ago (same skinny bezel, same blocky numerals on it), but pictures show that Phong was selling something more similar to the 'Polish Navy' fakes.
Speedmaster, you say? Interested in a leather strap, are you?
Golden-brown Medici. Darker than it looks in photos, much darker after a few weeks of wear.
Ahh, so you're the guy who sent this to goin! I'm a sucker for anything Super Compressor, but I especially love the convex dial--just as I do on the gen Polaris. Very nice looking dome on the crystal, too!
Beyond the self-explanatory "CYCLOPE" and the not-so-obvious "TROPIC", I don't believe there's any information to be gained from the nomenclature.
Sternkreuz, on the other hand, has a much better system. See if this helps you out:
I just don't wake up as early as I should... Hell of a pick-up at double, even triple, the price, but it couldn't have gone to a more deserving guy! Great catch!
A few people in watch forums have suggested that that this may be an in-joke by Tarantino i.e. a replica of an icon,
just as The Bride wears Bruce Lee's colors, or -more generally- the way QT's movies pay homage to all the exploitation flicks rattling around his brain.
Honestly, though, I think that's giving Tarantino too much credit. I've never seen or read anything to suggest that he's into watches. Or cars, for that matter.
