  1. Update: Dropped! I snagged the bracelet, and one of the springbars was not attached as solidly as I thought. The endlink came off, the watch flew from my wrist and smacked into the sidewalk. I've never dropped a watch before! Thankfully, the movement is fine, but there's some damage to the crystal, case, and especially to the crown. Also, one of the subdial hands popped off due to the impact. I'm currently on vacation in Italy, so if anyone knows a good watchsmith in Perugia, Rome, or Naples, please let me know. I just want the hand reattached and the springbars replaced, so I can wear the Monte Carlo before getting home!
  2. Well done! The MC Club is really growing now!
  3. Great guesses, considering the lack of any recognizable landmarks in the photo! The answer is Verona, and that's the Adige in the background. Next stop, Baloney!
  4. alligoat: Unlike last year, Manila got away unscathed, though the northern part of the country was not so lucky. As for the Internet, I'm currently paying for the pleasure of browsing this fine forum!
  5. Now THAT'S a watch that looks like it could take some punishment! It's like you've made a Jumbo Explorer!
  6. Still my favorite of your collection, Ubi, and my favorite watch out of all of RWG-dom!
  7. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the changeover from domed to beveled crystals happened sometime in the mid-1970s. This also affected other types of crystals at the time, but their names confusingly remained the same e.g. "Tropic 21" stayed "Tropic 21", despite the entirely new profile. Please have a look at my comparison of gen and aftermarket T21s from earlier in the year, since very few people did! I would love to add this J and K crystal to the comparison, as it seems to be a spitting image of the newer gens I have. (I've bought -and ruined!- quite a lot.) I've never bought a genuine domed T21, as both the Sternkreuz and Clark crystals are excellent at 1/10th to 1/20th the cost.
  8. DW's crystal is much nicer than he's given credit for. I used to think that all genuine Cyclope 128s were flat, with beveled edges. However, I've seen several original examples on VRF that show otherwise. No smoking gun picture of the crystal's profile, unfortunately, but reflections and refractions indicate a domed crystal. Great trio of watches from the talented Mr. Ubi! I'm not an AP guy, but I'm rather fond of that Royal Oak...
  9. We Monte Carlo owners need to stick together, so I started a club!
  10. Success! In the OP I wrote about the wrong minute counter on my movement. I had 30 minutes instead of 45, and I wasn't sure if it could be converted. Thankfully, parts #8040 and #8120 (below) worked perfectly. That's 45 teeth on the chronograph runner: Now, one elapsed minute looks like it does on the right, rather than the 1.5 indicated on the left: It bears repeating: If you care about having a 45-minute counter, do spend extra time or money looking for a movement so equipped. Converting a 30- to a 45- is neither cheap nor easy!
  11. Now you can drop all your Tudors into a large bowl, stir them around, and play "Find the gen"! The real thing is still something else, isn't it? Very classy and timeless design, and a predictably kind gesture from Ubi!
  12. robertk: I always wondered: When one letter falls off, does a replica become an homage? Love the flat-bezeled DSN Blancpains, regardless! Good ol' 6263 for Thursday:
  13. I never realized Doxas already had orange dials back in the 50s! OK, so it's a REALLY dark orange!
  14. Aw, I was hoping to draw it out a bit longer. They are Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson of Canuck prog-rock legends, Rush! Yeeaahh-yeh!!! (To be honest, I didn't even know the latter was into golf...)
  15. Damn, that's big watch! I desperately wanted to turn that case into a 1019 Milgauss, but the dial would've slid right through the aperture. I can barely recognize it now that it's topped off with sapphire and a new bezel, but it's gorgeous. The flat sides go great with the flat crystal, and the Tudor bracelet completes the look. I hope you find a few more Jumbo cases out there, and give your gen dials new homes. M: What IS it with those crown-side bulges?
  16. I missed this thread, but the end result is a stunner. Wear it with pride!
  17. Still on its shakedown cruise, and holding up well:
  18. Good pickup, Marty! I seem to recall seeing a WTB from you in another forum. Did anyone ever respond?
  19. That's pretty much it! There was something about the mirror-polished bezel that seemed off to me. Pictures of gens indicated a brushed finish, and ubi confirmed that was true on his gen bezel.
  20. If your watchsmith has tried to fit it and wasn't successful, there may be something wrong with your particular case. My first thought was that you might have a Poljot movement, but you said that the DW hands and dial fit perfectly. Would you have any pictures of the case and movement?
  21. Progress! Subtle change, or crucial step for DW Monte Carlo builds? Compare these shots with the pictures in the original post:
