  1. Thanks, all! I'm very happy with this watch at present, other than two minor complaints: First, I need to find a thinner, wider gasket so that the caseback can screw down completely. Should I just buy one of those big bags of assorted gaskets and hope for the best? Second, the endlink fit isn't perfect. Unfortunately, I can't just bend them, since they fit perfectly on my gen Speedmaster. I either have to choose one watch for the 1171, or (more likely) I'm just going to buy another pair of 633s! I've been mulling over buying a 166.0234 replacement case, but that's the strongest argument against doing so. The rep case profile is terrific, and is arguably more recognizable as an SM300 than an actual SM300! If I do go "full NOS" I might attempt it with a different movement--probably a Cal. 565.
  2. Beautiful build. It looks right from every angle! But is your Dad going to believe you when you say, "I made this for you"?
  3. x71s are best if you can afford them. Otherwise 357s or 557s (but not 57s!) are the next best thing. 361s look pretty good on the wrist, less so when the watch is lying flat on a table. Here's the fit of a 357 on my DW 6263: This is pretty good, and the gap is practically invisible behind that flared bezel.
  4. Great colors on the 917, thogaa. Don't forget to teach him that little hand flick at the end of the race!
  5. I'm loving that dial texture more each time I see it! That effect would be perfect for a vintage Fifty Fathoms.
  6. Ah, that explains the gentle contours of the case, as opposed to the more trapezoidal and pointier shapes seen on the cartel 14270s. Excellent base to build on, though crystal fitment sounds like a real challenge.
  7. First, let me preface by saying I can't see any pictures thanks to this damn workplace firewall. I saw a picture of John Hamm (aka "D o n D r a p e r") in a magazine, and I could've sworn he was wearing a time-traveling 14270 or 114270 Explorer. A handsome watch, but it ain't no 1016!
  8. OK, I can see the pictures now. Great stuff, and I can hardly believe that you started off with a 14270! The lugholes really transform the case.
  9. All these tiny Rolexes and Tudors! The Panerai guys must think we're a bunch of sissies! Wonderful results, C. I love the rugged and classic looks of your "California rose"!
  10. Thanks! It's always boggled my mind how the rep factories couldn't seem to get the 29.5mm inner diameter right, so I'm glad to hear that such cases exist. Planning on taking one to the grinding wheel for some extensive modification?
  11. Is this guaranteed 'AAAA' 1:1 Swiss-made replica watch? I'm sending you my credit card details and an envelope of cash right now!!! mellons: There have been at least a couple of guys on the forums who have bought that homage and were pretty happy with the quality. No alarm, though.
  12. They say my ability to predict events on eBay is a gift, but I assure you it's a terrible curse! A fifth bidder could have driven it up past $650. Maybe that fifth bidder was supposed to be... me?
  13. It's killing me that I can't see any pictures through the company firewall. Regardless, congratulations and wear it well!
  14. Looks like an improvement over the DW dial that gplracer posted. Now there's a gap between the plates and the track, and the suspicious holes in the Tudor shield are gone. But I bet there's a tradeoff I'm not seeing yet...
  15. Fake. On both the keeper and the strap, the spacing of "OMEGA" is wrong and the logo looks like it has "sad feet". And, yes, the price is a giveaway.
  16. DW'll even sell you the camera he used to take that picture!
  17. Zero bids suggest someone knows something I don't, and $589 is too much for a pig in a poke. I bet it sells for ~$650 after five guys bid on it in the final minute!
  18. Love, love, love the Polaris, but the LLD will do for now. The Vintage Aquatimer, on the other hand, doesn't do a whole lot for me... And are there any alarm reps out there? The last one I remember was the Vulcain Cricket GMT, and but that's now extinct.

A genuine Tropic 21 bezel would be very interesting!
  20. You would prefer that the report had sanitized an identified person's comments on racial traits?
  21. I plan on surgically embedding my Nano in the back of my hand.
  22. Thanks, guys! crockey, I hope you're not missing your MBK, as that was an impressive piece! rm88: The Space-Dweller gets all the attention! In all honesty, between the domed crystal, the low-beat movement, and that spectacular dial, it's my favorite, too. But the 16203 Explorer has its positives, and a different personality. When you see the sharp edge of that GS crystal in person, it really (as Ubi says) "looks the business." Looking back at my first two projects, I think you can do quite a lot using a rep Datejust case. If I were to go over them again, I would focus on the crystals and sand them down so they didn't protrude so much. Get the general profile right, and you have a nice 1016 rep for not that much money (relatively speaking!).
  23. No takers? The second picture shows a clear caseback, which is wrong for this Broad Arrow, and a manual-wind Seagull movement, which is wronger. Endlinks (and caseback) may be missing engravings, but it's too blurry to tell. The first pic is also blurry, but clear enough to see the subdials are too far apart--see the short 3 and 9 markers. First pic also shows a box full of watches in the background, yet he chooses to sell a gift from his Dad to pay for some college bills? And my favorite part: "I dont really know what it's worth" followed by "I know it's an expensive watch from my research, so I will have a somewhat high shipping cost in order to make sure I cover the insurance for it. Thanks!" No, thank YOU!
  24. DW 6239. Dang that wandering minute counter, but I can live with it... I think.
