  1. Closing the week with the 6263:
  2. Going through my spare parts drawer this evening, and I realized that I hadn't worn my Daytona with the DW solid linker since the time I first got it. Attaching the bracelet was a massive pain in the butt. It took a few tries to get the top half in, but I struggled a good fifteen minutes trying to get that bottom springbar to seat. I finally gave up and cheated with a slightly shorter springbar that I save for special occasions. So here are a couple of new shots to add to my portfolio of DW/endlink-fit photos: The fit is much better than I remembered. Protruding tips aside, the endlinks cleave to the case and match the lug's contours better than 357s. Like the 357, the DW 571s are rock-solid in the lugs; there's no play between endlinks and springbars. On the wrist, the tips are a non-issue and the bracelet looks pretty good. But I'm a sucker for the older bracelets, so I I'll be sticking with my folded-link 7835 or -more likely- my Tropic rubber strap.
  3. Oh, I'm not much of a gold watch guy, either. I just wanted an Elvis-themed Rolex rep. How about a TCB engraving on the caseback? Best of luck on what's looking like a terrific project. I can't wait to see what comes next!
  4. King Midas-ize that sucker, jmb!
  5. "...and when I turned to ask him if he knew my Uncle Pete who vanished during the Fall of Saigon, HE WAS GONE!"
  6. The GP at Montreal is a must-see. I was there in '98 to see Schumacher win and Fisichella almost-win, which he did quite often in Canada! The track is good, but it was the energy of the city during the race weekend that really appealed to me. Very alive, very fun. I'm not sure why I never went back, but it's more to do with a lack of funds than a lack of desire. Those tickets aren't cheap. Of course, if you're used to Silverstone prices, you'll probably find Montreal tickets to be a bargain!
  7. I'm so glad she's wearing long sleeves in that picture. I just had breakfast.
  8. Fantastic! The 7032 is a rep I've long wanted to have, but the concentric black circles of the 7031 are very appealing visually. Save for a gen Heritage or get two reps? Hmm! Finding a Cyclope 128 might be a headache or a shock to the wallet. The only ones I've found are going for nearly $400!
  9. Beautiful, and great job luming that dial! What case did you use for this project?
  10. Thanks, Pre V! I think Spinmaster does a bit of value-added labor on those endlinks (i.e. trimming and maybe some bending), so you could factor that into the sale price. On second thought, maybe I shouldn't have said anything... One last thing: During one of my DW-related research sessions through RWG's archives, I read about someone using the endlinks from a Josh/Andrew vintage Daytona. The fit was supposed to be superior to DW's, and Josh (or Andrew) was willing to sell the bracelet or the end pieces separately from the watch. Unfortunately, I don't remember if this was subsequently confirmed, and I don't recall seeing any photos of these endlinks attached to DW's -or a genuine- 78350.
  11. Mine are the newer type, and don't fit so great against the lugs. My regular bracelet is a 7835 with 361 endlinks. The fit is good, but inferior to the 357s, which I believe are similar to the 557s. If you want to see closeup photos of how well a 357 and a 60 fit, please check this post. 361 fitment can be seen here.
  12. Just stunning all around, but I'm still amazed you were able to find a golden riveted bracelet and that beautiful crown. This is one to save for very special occasions!
  13. I'm glad to see these kits are available for ETA movements now. I love a Super Compressor on Tropic!
  14. Man, how I wish I could join Club Monte Carlo! Until then, the 6263 is the closest I can get:
  15. Keeping it subtle and understated:
  16. You could always ask John Mayer on VRF!
  17. The chrono broke while I was on vacation last week, but now the 6263's fixed up and ready to go:
  18. Silver 6263 for me, though I would love to get a non-exotic, black-dialed 6239, too:
  19. Amazing strap, donerix! 082 for today:
  20. Stunning watch with a beautiful provenance. Ubi is a class act, and I hope you enjoy that Sub for a long time, and in better times.
  21. My Fifty Fathoms enters the seventies with a mesh upgrade:
  22. Sweet, thanks for the update! I've been visiting Omega ADs around Asia since the start of the year, and this is the first time I'd seen one of these. It's definitely worthy of a double-take the first time you see one in person! Hmm... Now that I know it's not so rare, will I want it less? I sort of hope so, since I don't know if I can afford this and that new retro Tudor Chrono!
  23. I try to keep myself updated on all things Omega, so I was caught off-guard a couple of nights ago when I saw this model at the Lotte Department Store in Seoul: At first glance, I thought I was looking at a Mitsukoshi Edition Speedy Pro, but it didn't take long for me to realize it was something else. Omega's done the "Classic Daytona" look for its Speedies before, but never this attractively, in my opinion. It was selling in the low USD 3000s. Since I don't spend that kind of money on a whim, and I had no clue about this particular model, I bit my tongue and let it stay behind the glass counter. I scribbled the reference number down (323.30.40.40.04.001), which is what led me to the picture above. However, entering that number into Omega's online search function yields nothing. Other search results just give bits and pieces of information, none of which I've been able to verify. Does anyone know when this Speedmaster was released, and whether it's a limited edition? Is it a Japan-only special, and, if so, how many were made? The guy behind the counter spoke little English, but said that it was a new model and was 40mm in diameter. Other than a smile when we showed each other our Speedy Pros, that's all I got out of him! Most importantly, should I be regretting not buying this when it was sitting right there in front of me? Damn, those black hands looked nice against the white dial!
