Pam Experts, What do you think?
mastrmindalliance replied to mastrmindalliance's topic in The Panerai Area
Eyed up it looks like it does Wheaton. Will put the calipers on it for you when I get home. It was actually your avatar that made me want my first pam (bought a 113 w bracelet). Didn't like them before, but loved the profile pic in yr avatar. Seriously! Any suggestions for an available rep that needs this style bracelet? -
Pam Experts, What do you think?

Hey Drulee, thanks for the info and tips, much appreciated! Unfortunately I'm not a regular visitor to the market, was just a holiday. You may have some luck with the other guys posting in this thread Might just keep it as is and try to lube the rotor, unless I do jag a new caseback and CG for cheaps. Though I will be chasing a rep model that should have, but lacks this style bracelet (it's really super good qual!), if there are any... Edit: oh also it's sapphire with AR on front and mineral on rear. -

Ok cool, so it's a 161. Thanks guys! Does anyone know where to get a suitable caseback? Besides replacing the woeful CG is there any other simple mod I could do? Simple because I'm more of 'breaker' than a 'fixer' when it comes to watches. It has the noisiest rotor ever, wonder if any of our forum watchsmiths will touch it, given the movement...? Also, if you google up the new pam bracelet it appears the gen has a bit of a gap at that last link too (which seems odd), perhaps not quite as big though... I am happy with it all though. It even has decent lume. -
Hi, I bought this in Chinatown KL, Malaysia just for the new style bracelet after seeing one months ago on a watch here in our sale section. I tried but couldn't source the bracelet from our dealers. I picked this up for about 100USD (after MUCH haggling - had a price tag of over $900. LOL) and it seems on par buildwise with the $250-300 reps from our dealers. Has a quality/solid feel. Everything works well and keeps decent time. The bracelet itself has a much better finish and feel than the older style pam bracelet available from our dealers. It needs some lube and polish but the finishing is even and smooth, the the deploy is smooth and clicks well, and it has VERY nice flush screws. The only crit is is the little gap between the SEL and first link. This gap isn't as bad IRL if worn tight. The question is, is the watch head a pure fantasy or close/moddable to an actual model? You can afford to be super critical as it was bought only for the bracelet. It's only a bonus if not pure fantasy. Pics: Edit to add pic of date: Thanks for looking!

Couple new ones for me this weekend. Not sure but think this pam is a fantasy: But I'll be wearing this a lot... I know this isn't G-fan forum but I'm pretty excited about this limited edition asia only lap-time G. I got it on launch day and it's a whopping 51mm. Prolly the biggest G ever! Have a happy Easter all!

More expensive brand = better service ?
mastrmindalliance replied to 709394's topic in General Discussion
I have a similar story with Omega. Omega's service here in Aus is ridiculously poor. No work is actually done in the country. My last experience using Omega's service was an unfunny comedy (tragedy?) of errors taking nearly four months to reinstall a loose chrono hand on a 2004 Moon watch - the same chrono hand, not a new one. The watch went went to three different countries and was at one stage returned with the hand still loose - but with the watch polished! Of course I was charged for all this uneeded work and travel. I now use one of Australia's best (if not the best) Horologists for all my high end gen work. He is known throughout the southern hemisphere. He understands the art, as you say, of good watches. He is in Brisbane and I swear by him. In fact I would personally garantee his work! I don't get him to do lower end stuff though, wouldn't dream of it. If you want/need his details I can give them to you in about a week as I'm overseas atm. -
Thanks for more tips MJ, and Edwin will shoot you some info (i've been here thsn 24hrs atm). but... Got the bracelet (with watch attached heh). Must say, the bracelet is very good quality. Probably better qual than the old style one available from our dealers. Needs a lube of course. This watch, which I assume is a fantasy, had a price tag of 2998MYR (906USD). After much haggling I got it for 340MYR (not a typo - 103USD). LOL. Even though I bought it just for the bracelet as this was thge only one that had it. It's good! It

OK, this place is full of fake watches. Been here all of 10 hours and seen a lot of fake watches - and this is the high end of town even (i think - staying at the 5 star Novotel city centre). Went out for late night walk when I got here and the only thing they seem to have more of than watches are "massage parlours". I'm here on on hols, so not really interested in shopping for street fakes, but I am going to chase down that new style Pam bracelet mad dawg posted above. Will post pics and mini review if I find it.

Its so hard buying your first watch..
mastrmindalliance replied to cvstos's topic in General Discussion
Might I suggest something uncomplicated and of reasonable accuracy for your first rep before moving on to chrono's and others with design aspects that require a quite a bit of experience, such as HBB's, to make wise decisions? One of these should give you good experience of what to expect and keep you happy while you read up: Breitling Super Ocean Heritage, any of the Sinns, Omega UPO or the ubiquitous Rolex "Noobmariner". All good places to start and all considered great reps. Happy hunting! -
what do you guys think of 'designer' watches
mastrmindalliance replied to numptyj's topic in General Discussion
A pro photographer friend of mine once gave me excellent advice on buying a digital camera. He said, “You don't buy cameras from a company that's known for making fridges or DVD players, you buy a digital camera from a known camera maker, a specialist". So, he was saying, don't buy an LG or Samsung for the higher megapixel count, buy a Nikon, Canon or Pentax et al. The same can be applied here - don't buy a watch from someone who specialises in jeans or shirts. Be it Rolex or Seiko doesn't matter, no matter how pretty it is, buy a watch from a brand known for watchmaking. Very wise advice. -
I learned this lesson the hard way a long time ago on Lombok when I was young (and was nearly killed for it).

Wow, cool, thanks! Of most interest interest to me is that bottom pam - it has the new style bracelet which I've been chasing, but can't get from our dealers. My interest in KL reps just kicked up a notch! Thanks mad dawg!

never used to like this... but they are really growing on me. I kike the white ceramic fanstasy. Upo today:

Thanks for all the info guys! Very much appreciated! Mad dawg - did you buy your duty free (grog and cigs) on the way in, leaving Aus or on arrival in KL ? In Japan you can't buy Duty free as you arrive and I heard KL customs were tough on this on this as well. Would prefer to buy cigs at their end as you can no longer buy my preferred brand in Aus (white butted, old recipe Malboro lights). I have an hour layover in Sing, perhaps i can buy the good malboro's there? ongck77 - I'd be keen to catch up for sure, maybe you know the markets or some cool stuff to do (im 37 years old, but much younger at heart)? Oh and mad dog. Got any shots of the reps you bought? Would be interested to see the qual. I'm expecting indo style street fakes - or what they call "canal street" quality around here... Any other info from anyone would be great. I've been to Sing a few times, so I know how to mind my manners around this part of the world but realise the there will be differences... Haven't decided what watches to take, thinking just taking (gasp!) one - either one of my fave reps, the ziggified perfect 10 DSSD or SOH non chrono on mesh, or gen moonwatch, or gen Loyal brand swiss ceramic, or maybe even just an Orange Monster; in case i do go mad in china town. hehe.. I'm getting really excited!

Edit: DP sorry.

Hey, no it's a The Zigmeister lume/service.

Wore this on hump day: Will join the club and wear a UPO today. The real question is... What pants to put on?
-
Any info would be great MJ! Also any things I should do while there would be helpful, I'm travelling alone and you know what they say ... a little local knowledge goes a long way! I look forward to your mail and thank-you!

Hi, This is not exactly what you might think from the title.... I'm heading to Malaysia over Easter and know they have a 'street fake' trade so I have a question for people who may have traveled there or info from locals would be great! I'll spend a few nights in KL before heading off to an Island resort. My big question is - should I take reps? Even though I will arrive with them... will customs leaving (or arriving back in Aus) be a problem for me given the well known counterfeit trade there? Not watches I buy there, watches I take with me. Of course, I also wonder if there are any good reps to find. I will have a little look while there but am happy with my dealer here. Last year I traveled with reps to NZ and Japan no probs, but these countries aren't known for counterfeit trade. Thanks for any advice!

Do your rep/s go on holiday/vaction with you?
mastrmindalliance replied to PeteM's topic in General Discussion
I did on my last holiday to Japan but i go to KL in a few weeks so i've been questioning taking reps... What do you all think about taking reps into, and more importantly, leaving a country known for having a fake market with your reps? -
Worst Rep dealer ever - recomendations
mastrmindalliance replied to RLudlowe's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, tell him its a street fake (canal street etc) and you picked it up by opportune. -
The watch is Josh's latest (correct 10 "316f" etc). had The Zigmeister lume and service.
