  1. Looking great, Corgi!! A beauty of a watch... And well deserved! Happy holidays and all the best... Cheers! R
  2. Today: Tonight: Saturday: Sunday:
  3. dvn- For a while there, the prices for a gen 16520 were starting at around $11k - $12k and up to around the $50k - even the $80k range depending on the flavor of dial/metal variation/rarity (i.e. porcelan, floating, patrizzi, A/P serials etc). These days, prices have come down a bit, but I think full package rare examples still pull in a fair figure; standard models not quite so much. As for dial choice- White is definitely a little more formal, with black being a little more sporty (in my opinion). Both are quite versatile...
  4. Rolex replaces the hour/minute/center secs/subsidiary pinions with their own proprietary parts. Hence, Daytona hands are not a direct fit to the standard EP400 pinions.
  5. Hey, that new lug configuration looks great! I really like it with the leather strap! For grins... Some old pics prior... I think your father in law will be thrilled! That is a unique one-off... A true one of a kind for a one of a kind individual!
  6. Ahhh... The ol' lens reversal trick! Works great, but you definitely get some shallow DoF! I took the above while holding my wife's old 55mm lens inverse to my stock XT's lens (with steady hands). For macros, it's a great trick (I learned this from Pugs) Great looking project thus far, BTW!
  7. Mac- Speaking from my own personal experience, I think having one white and one black is the perfect balance! They both go well with any occassion and it's a nice subtle change for the days when you want something just a little different. The only downside is trying to decide which to wear at times I think I find myself wearing the white one the most- Maybe a 60/40 split. The white dial is so crisp and clean and I prefer it due to the minimal amount of crystal reflection from the dial. With all the subdials, hands, text etc. the black dial tends to throw back a lot of reflection, which then reflects off the crystal and back onto the dial, and I constantly find myself wiping down the crystal as in my mind it looks dirty (when really it's just the dial casting reflections). A bit hard to explain, but you'll probably know what I mean when you have yours on in the sunlight. Besides... With both, you can go Maradonna style!
  8. Yikes! Hope you get some restful relaxation during the Holidays, S! No need to worry about new pics- Sounds like you've got enough on your plate as is! As for the YM... Bought and paid in full back in June. Sort of a leap of faith, as I had no idea when that watch would be done, or how the end product would look. Hopefully I'll have that one in hand soon. I have to say.... The more I look at these Blacksteel pics, the more I find myself smitten. That's a very handsome watch indeed!
  9. I'm looking forward to seeing pics as well!
  10. Don't forget that the 14060 has completely different dimensions than that of a standard 16610 (which this looks to be based on). Dial diameter is different, crystal diameter is smaller, etc. etc.
  11. Looking good, buddy! Can't wait to see pics of yours when it's done. For now... Here is some incentive...
  12. I have to admit- The WM9 16622 was paid for LONG ago... Like over 6 months ago But I know I can certainly imagine how excited they'll be when they open that box up to find something as sparkly and shiney as a yachtie rep! BTW... Before you let that gen go, maybe you can do a 1:1 side by side comparo for grins?
  13. Big R, Thanks for the very kind words! Indeed... I feel blessed every day when I see my munchkins and their smiling faces! They are my world, and they keep me inspired to work hard and be the best person I can be. None the less... Having a Blacksteel would still be very nice But such things can wait and I think I can be patient BTW- I think you'll need to adapt to doing the WIS walk from now on- Tucking the arm behind your back as you walk along walls, corners, etc. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to you and your family! Cheers and all the best, R
  14. In my opinion... The dial makes the watch. If you have a gen dial, you can't get any better than that. Add a nice cyclops (yes, there are a few forum members who have offered these in the past) and the right datewheel, and I think you'll have a nice build, especially if the 7750 is Swiss and you add a gen crown. Probably some other mods to do like CG work, etc. As you can see, it can really add up.
  15. Damn, R; that's a close call! Wish I could pick up one of these beauties now, but alas, all of my funds have gone into spoiling the kiddoes for X-Mas! Damn...
  16. Couple of factors that you have to consider: 1) Cost. Is the cost of the dial reasonable? Is the cost of the entire project worthwhile? If the all inclusive build is encroaching on the cost of the gen equivalent, then the answer is pretty straightforward 2) How picky are you? Are you looking for all out perfection, or would you be satisfied with near perfection? Your threshold of accuracy may help determine cost. 3) Is this a watch you've been wanting for XX number of months/years? Or are you building simply because the opportunity has presented itself to buy the dial? The positive aspect to building a watch is that you can build it up over time with overall cost being spread out. It is usually less painful to take this approach, and building is also much more satisfying (at least, it is for me). However- If this is not a watch you are in love with, you may find yourself parting with it sooner than later. Or... It may be one that you come to appreciate after completing, thus finding a permanent home in your watch box.
  17. Thanks much, kind sir! It's a very fun watch... Quirky and funky thanks to it's dial and hands. Easily one of my all time faves!
  18. Personally... I like Pre-A ...with correct OP ref, BB and milesimation all correlating: Just wish it was 30ATM instead of 300m
  19. Glowin' like a TORCH!! Also... Nice re-work of the CG pin. Did you have to do this with mine as well?
  20. Looks great! Another work of art!!
