  1. I really, really hate asking favors of the forum, but I'm in a position where I need to purchase a small part, and the seller only accepts MB. I'm not very keen on signing up for yet another online payment account, and am wondering if someone would be willing to help fascilitate the purchase (it's a $20 part). If someone could please assist, I'd be very grateful. Please let me know. Thanks, and kind regards, R
  2. Some old factory gems to compliment yours, JohnG...
  3. Too true gents... Life is good indeed. But with good friends and family, life is great! The watches are an added bonus
  4. Misplaced? Or did it somehow manage to find it's way off your watch?
  5. Regarding the date window- Looks to me as though it's a bit too wide (as is the date). If they shortend it by a half mm, I bet it would be just right...
  6. R- I think we've discussed the movement before. I test fit mine today, and the one I am thinking of would fit perfect in an MBW (or similar quality ETA 2836 vintage cased Sub). As for the dial... I'd say relume it. It looks like it's been relumed already, as the trademark surface texture is no longer present. Plus, you can take this opportunity to lume both the dial and hands in a matching tone. BTW, I have a gen crown here for you; gratis for a great guy and friend! I have either a Rolex Triplock, or a Tudor Triplock. Either one has your name on it, just take your pick. Congrats on the win! Looking forward to seeing the finished result (as well as Stephane's!) Regards
  7. Typically, unless the replica is a very poorly executed example, I would say that the chances of spotting a replica while simply glancing at a wrist in situ are probably not very likely. Most times, even upon close visual inspection, one may not be able to identify it as such. The times when one would be likely to be called out on a high quality replica is if a knowledgable individual (in that particular brand), WIS, or RWG member were to examine the watch in hand, feeling the weight and details (like winding the movement), noting the specific known details and flaws or when posting a picture for the Internet public at large to examine in full. Remember... Most people in the general population probably wouldn't know what a Breitling (or other high end brand) was to begin with.
  8. Great looking ROO! With the rubber strap, I may have to give this one another shot... Looks like it conforms to the wrist much better than the bracelet...
  9. No one ever seems to notice what I have on my wrist. Except my sister-in-law, who always inquires 'is that another new watch?!'
  10. kruz- James Dowling is a knowledge authority (among many) of the Rolex brand, a dealer of vintage pieces, and also a writer/author of books pertaining to the subject.
  11. Just to clarify your question- Is the 6:00 (elapsed hours) subdial not resetting to '12' exactly (i.e. it resets to a little before or after 12, or possibly elsewhere within the subdial), or is it not resetting at all?
  12. For a black dial matte... I'll stick with this Seamaster
  13. It's a funky looking watch; and one that kind of grows on you after a while. I was very tempted to get one, but I think it's just too big for my liking.
  14. Great pics and nicely done with the drilling! Looks great!
  15. Looking good! I've seen many a 16800 with a pearl similar, or even darker than yours with light creamy indicies and hands in contrast. Many of these pearls from this time frame seem to take on an almost chocolate brown in color; not sure what the explanation is, but my guess is either they didn't do a good job sealing those pearls, or maybe something funky with the tritium or other material(s) used. Oddly enough, I've also seen a good many 16610's (and a few 168000's) with trit pearls from a very similar time proximity with very light colored pearls. This, along with the fact that a lot of the manufacturing of these parts were still outsourced during this period (thus allowing for variations) makes me believe that perhaps the dark pearls from this era were maybe more of a manufacturing issue than anything else. I mean, there are a lot of older inserts and pearls from the plastic era with lighter color pearls still (yet with very naturally faded inserts). Strange stuff
  16. I know I'm probably sounding much like a broken record... But this community is truly unique. There are acts of kindness- spoken and unspoken- taking place here daily, and the folks we have here are truly the cream of the crop. I am humbled... And thankful to be a part of it! As for the wine... The wife and I decided to save it for a special occassion. The bottle is already 11 years old; a few more years, perhaps? kruz- When the time comes, I will toast to Hot Terri and Jessica You know, just to cover my bases... Thanks all for the kind words and comments! All much appreciated! Cheers! R
  17. Plus, Customs in the U.S. uses special tape indicating that they've officially inspected the parcel and it's contents. If the parcel was sealed with plain packing tape, then it was an 'unofficial' inspection and likely confiscated by someone with sticky fingers...
  18. Logan, As kruzer mentioned, this tube is from a Jimmy case (pictured in the background). The gen crown just slides right in and engages with a nice reassuring click.
  19. Looking good! I'm quite excited over this, but I just can't put my finger on why... Oh, wait! I know! It's cause I think this little guy could use one of those Tap10 6497 stems!
  20. NICE 1675, TMG!! Looking good!
  21. The community and friendship here is amazing... And you guys are all too kind! As a side note, and completely unrelated... A special thanks to you, Warren, for helping me with my project! It's coming along!!
  22. I noticed these some months ago on their site. For the most part, looks pretty good. That bezel has certainly seen better days, but overall, looks decent. I'd like to get a better look of the sides, back, lugs etc. prior to saying one way or the other, but with their single pic (and it could just be the pic), it looks almost like it's a tad bit overpolished on the sides and tips of the lugs (that 7:00 lug looks a little rounded at the tip). Dial fitted to this one is gen in case anyone was wondering. As for pricing... I remember when such cases were almost half of this. Heck... I got my gen case back a few years ago for a little less. But the price is consistent with what I've seen elsewhere for aftermarket (and gen cases are now in the $3.5k - $6k range). Prices have really gone up across the board... I like Phong and his product offering. I've been drooling over that 18k Patek 2499 he has for some time now.
  23. M- I always loved that one of yours! Very nice!!
