Mmmmmmm.... MBW. I love mine dearly

Thanks W! Oddly enough, this one had the non-Comex caseback on it. Seemed strange to me... At any rate... I have your dial ready to go

The revision is being discussed... And fine details to be scrutinized. That's all that's left on this iteration, as the major hurdles (being function and application) have already been confirmed as a go- The overlay on my watch functions 100% as it should, and that was the goal with this prototype. The overlay fits, lines up and the dial clears it with room to spare so that means that the date snaps over nice and neat with no jamming or sticking. One thing that we're looking to achieve is authenticity in aesthetics. We don't want fonts to be too straight, nor too perfect, as the genuine datewheel from the 1570 was far from it. Rather, we're finding the challenge in duplicating the look of 1960's - 1970's printing technology, or lack thereof, as too straight and too perfect would be just as wrong as too jagged or too rough. It's finding the median between the two that will result in a genuine appearance At any rate, I'm quite excited about these datewheels; they're one of the last few elements currently missing in the vintage Rolex models as far as 'fixes' go

I think people need to start drinking decaf. Myself included. @starbu- Never once did I intend any offense or otherwise towards your posts. I only made clarification on how *I* interpreted your post. Nothing more, nothing less. I don't know you, I don't have anything against you. My post was to clear up any indication of DW not being on the level, which I know not to be the case with several account of first hand experience. It takes an incredible amount of time to build a credible and respected reputation; it takes minutes, and sometimes seconds to destroy one. I did not want this to happen to one of my favorite dealers who also happens to be someone that I consider a friend. So, my perspective was- If I understood your post the way that I read it, I figured others may do the same. So, that's my clarification and justification for posting what I did. As for mikellem... He is free to post and voice his opinion, just as you are free to express yours. I don't view it as 'sucking up', and knowing him as I do, there is no need for him to have to feel that he needs to 'suck up'. I respect him greatly, as he adds content and value to the forum in his own right. As always, your mileage may vary, your perspective may differ with mine, and your opinion and point of view is always encouraged, whether it happens to coincide with mine or not. This is an open forum, we all have different reasons why we're here. If we all agreed on everything, it would be a very boring place...

Indeed. The Yao MOD hands are very nice... Hour and min hand are much nicer, wider, and better shape. Seconds hand, however is still slightly wrong. However, modding this to a 5512 would be rather interesting as well! Throw on a nice T-19, insert, dial and hands, and you're set The pursuit of perfection... Or as close to as possible... It's what keeps me going You may want to check around with Frei, Borel, etc. As always, thanks Big E!!

Man, that's a great looking watch. The bracelet is exquisite!
-
Oooh! Good stuff! You can take your 5517 a step further with some Yao MOD sword hands... A bit better in shape and size for the Mili
-
Once they are perfected... Absolutely!
-
Good stuff! I always get a chuckle reading Jocke's posts! And that second link of the Sub pic... Is there even a watch in that pic? If there is... I didn't see any?
-
Still using the 2846! Runs perfect with a nice staggered beat! I love it! All that's needed on it is the new datewheel (which we're working on) and it'll be complete...

michael, I'll bring 'em! And maybe a few others too... fellfell, If I lived in Italy, I would build one of these watches for you. But for now... I send you a private message (PM) instead

Yessir- A direct fit. Perfect for my needs. If this one didn't work out, my next project would have been a V72, like yours (which at some point, I still might do)

My first DW (and after this Monday will be my ONLY DW) 6265. One of my favorites, and after a year of ownership, finally made reliable. A little history on why this watch is one of my most loved. The path to 'reliable' was with many pitfalls and road blocks. I've spent more on this watch than I care to admit, though that's mostly to myself for my own sanity This watch started life with the highly sensitive and often trouble prone DW Mystery Movement. It worked perfect for about 2 months or so, and then started showing problems with winding- Every turn of the crown would result in grinding gears that sounded more like grinding gravel. So... Off it went to RG for a full overhaul. Sadly however, a servicing would not repair the problem- Gears were worn away, and you can't put metal back; so, the watch was returned to me, grinding still. In the meantime, I searched for a new movement, but alas there was one big problem: DW had gone missing at this point. So, sourcing from him was not an option. Thankfully, a fellow member came to my rescue with a spare movement he had. Off to Ziggy it went again; this time, a combination of parts from 3 different movements were used to produce one good one. The watch found it's way back home to me again, and was used very seldomly for fear of further problems surfacing. Then, one fateful day I went to wind up my DW to wear for the day... And alas- Grinding gears had plagued me again. Watch went back in the box, and sadly another was chosen for that day. I was certain this watch was cursed Fast forward 4 months, and an opportunity came up to purchase a Swiss Valjoux 23 for a very reasonable price. I purchased the watch for the movement, and took delivery of it shortly after. Off everything went once again to Ziggy (by now I am sure he's tired of seeing this watch); movement serviced, and everything came back, working perfect. By this time, the hands came, and much to my dismay, they didn't fit exactly as hoped. Ended up bending a few, and had to order another set. And, yet again... Everything back up to Rob. Hands are a mix and match of V23 hands, original DW hands, and V72 hands. A few had to be broached to fit, as amongst the mix, they were still the wrong size. But, for once... The watch was done. With a reliable movement, completely servicable, and with parts still available. Needless to say, I feel much more confident about my beloved DW. Still with me? Okay... Onto the list of ingredients... -DW 6265 -Genuine Tropic 21 -Genuine Crown -Genuine Tube -Genuine Swiss Valjoux 23 -Mix and Match of Hands -Genuine Springbars And finally... The pics Old vs. New movement In Ziggy's atelier: After 20 hours in the ultrasonic. Looking much better! And finally back in my hands on Friday. Needless to say... One very happy Ubi here... A HUGE thanks to the master, Ziggy! Thanks for looking. Best, R

For a Double Red... You can use either, really. The DRSD 1665 was introduced in 1967- The upper end of the time scale when the rivet (7206) was used. Alternatively you can use a genuine folded link (9315) bracelet, as that was introduced in the later 60's to early/mid 70's; from then on, a heavy link (93150) was used, which is also susequently what is used to replace old, tired bracelets when sent in for service.

MBW is a private collector who has helped shape the world of Rolex reps as we know them today. While there aren't many (i.e. read as any) 'best out of the box' replicas available, the vintage MBW's are without a doubt amongst the best that you can start with, as it provides the ideal platform to modify from; genuine parts fit with little to no modification required. Modern Rolex models, as well as MBW's other brand offerings are similar to what other dealers have, so it's the vintage models that really stand out (though it can be argued that MBW's modern Subs are indeed slightly different than the TW Best models, which are also excellent in their own right). For some reading on two very popular vintage Rolex reps, here is a write up I did some time ago detailing the 1680 Submariner, and the 1665 Sea-Dweller. http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=107&hl= Hope this helps. P.S. To add yet another acronym to the mix, WM #1 (WatchMaster) vintage watches are also of the same caliber. Excellent pieces!

Hmmmmm... Methinks Big Ed's gears are turning...

Ahhhh... For the 16610, there are. But for vintage jobs, like the 1680, 1665, etc, there are not...
