  1. I quit doing lug hole drilling as it's one of my least favorite mods to do. Instead, I just send mine out when I need it done...
  2. I have been kind of off and on contemplating the idea of one... But haven't necessarily committed...
  3. 702: 703: 704 (monobloc):
  4. I forget... Did you guys want periodic updates and stuff on this project?
  5. Sometimes the stem will come loose as the set screw will work itself a little loose. I have had to tighten the set screw on a few of my 6497/8 based watches as well as a few for friends. Although I don't think it's the same problem, I do feel as though it's worth mentioning just as one of those FYI kind of posts
  6. At one time, I had a TW Best 16710; but this was a long time ago. I think this was essentially the same thing as the MBW/MBK 16710.
  7. Gen crystal is nice to have as you get the nice edge bevel and crown etch if using a later example 295C or service replacement. The tough part about modding the WM9 16610 is knowing where to draw the line, as several mods and gen parts can push the overall cost withn range of a pre-owned 16610. But they sure are nice watches
  8. Congrats! Looks great! There are times when I miss mine... The WM9 is defintiely the best 16610 replication out there!
  9. I guess it's kinda like putting the cart before the horse? Or something like that. I've got a few more compulsive buys to share with you guys at a later date...
  10. Not a gen dial in a rep case, but I have fitted a gen dial in a gen 16200 case: Fitted with a 2824-2... Since the gen case set came complete, the crown, crystal and bezel all have the benefit of being gen as well. Fairly easy build to do, especially if you have one of stilty's rings...
  11. I don't recall. When I did my V23 swap, I just re-used the old DW dial and snipped the feet off. But in theory, it should be the same for the dial. The hands were something of a mess, though; a mish mash of V72 and DW hands, some broached to fit.
  12. Well, I do suppose I could fit one more into the 2011 schedule!
  13. Now that's what I call a write up! Well done, babola! You've got me thinking I need to add one of these to my collection!
  14. Believe me... V72 is worth the extra cash and effort... Plus, the compatibility of gen dials and the sort is an added bonus
  15. By Serie Speciale, you mean the Navitimer Fighters, right? That should be a standard 7750 (A13330; 'A' indicates case metal and '13' indicates the caliber I believe; in this case, 13 should reference the 7750/12-9-6 configuration I think?).
  16. 5514 and 6265 frankens for Thurs: Maybe the 16520 for Friday?
  17. The difference between a V23/MM case and V72 isn't so much in the rehaut, it's in the crown/stem height (i.e. the position in which the hole for the tube is drilled in the case). Here is a comparison of my V72 6265 franken and my wife's MM movement 6263. Valjoux 72; case is a Phong/JW case. Note the crown's position/height in relation to the pushers: Valjoux 23; case is an early DW. Note that the crown on this is much higher/closer toward the bezel: Rehaut on both. Gen silver dial is the V72; PN exotic dial is the DW: BTW, for the record my old original DW from a few years back had a Swiss V23 that I had transplanted with no problems. A V23 going into a MM is a 1 to 1 swap. For the few folks that had retrofit a V72 into their MM cases at the time, modification to the rehaut was necessary to allow the V72 to sit deeper in the case thus allowing the stem to line up center in the tube. The height difference is maybe less than a mm which doesn't sound like much, but when you're dealing with tolerances as small as those involved with lining a stem center in a tube, it's significant as the result could be snapped stems.
  18. Nicely done, J! I especially like the fixture you created to mount the case up for lathe work. As with most things replica, it's amusing to ponder why the factory would change the case specs to match the incorrect retention ring, but I suppose it costs very little to machine off less material when manufacturing cases instead of scrapping stock/inventory of incorrect size rings to make new ones. The things they do to save a buck...
  19. I'm not sure I understand what you are saying. My point isn't on size, but rather the material. The solid ceramic can crack; that is my point. Size is irrelevant...
  20. That's a great watch. My wife has the 33mm, and she loves it! However, you should be advised that while the case and bracelet are very scratch resistant, they are prone to cracking if they take a hard enough impact. My wife can attest to that first hand as her prior 38mm version met it's demise as a result:
  21. Is that the recent heart transplant patient I worked on, Nanuq? Or is that your heirloom piece?
