I definitely need a new dial, just have to keep my eyes peeled for a "proper" looking one that won't break the bank.

Let's not get TOO carried away...

Gio, I will have another look, maybe this weekend, but I didn't see anything...

idolreplicas.com is also one of Tony's sites and has the same inventory (and same product IDs) as far as I can tell and all are at least $20 less than WE. I've bought three watches from idolreplicas and so far all has been well but I think they have been put "on probation" on one of the other forums due to some CS and QC issues. I've personally only had good dealing as of a month ago anyway when I ordered the budget Coke GMT Master.

DG2813 from cousins with recessed cannon pin!
jmb replied to plaifender's topic in General Discussion
Plaifender, no I did mean "short" as in once you get a datewheel overlay installed and a dial spacer you won't be able to re-fit the hands! I read a post on a different forum that indicated there were high and low beat versions of both 2813 and 4813. Someone seemed pretty confident that the -1 in either was a low beat and a -2 was the high beat. Offshore, do you have a ballpark figure on what these will retail for or is it too early to discuss such things? -
I'm almost sorry I did as I'm now pi$$ed about only having two seals...

Piece of split Mesquite that I use for BBQ smoking! Damn, getting hungry just thinking about it...

The post about the DSSD case back opener got me up off my butt to try my new adjustable case back opener. I had been wanting to epoxy the He valve closed on this so I figured now was as good a time as any. Even with the "tool" I almost gave up but it finally broke loose. Absolutely dry case back O-ring, not that I was surprised. I pulled the movement and put a couple drops of "5 minute epoxy" down the hole while actuating the valve - shouldn't have to worry about that sucker leaking! It also gave me the opportunity to find a pretty good compromise between the dial and rehaut engraving so really the only "zit" left is the crooked 6:00 marker. Someday I'll try fixing that unless ETZ starts handing out replacement dials. I greased the external tube O-ring, the little O-ring in the crown, and was going to grease the internal tube seal and I did not see one! I couldn't even see a groove for the O-ring. Makes me a bit apprehensive about the water resistance of this build, or did I just get a "boo-boo"? Next time somebody has their crown/stem removed on their V5 take a look and see if you have an O-ring hiding inside the crown tube and let me know...

Lani, although my photography skills are not up to snuff I did finally break down and get a new digital Pentax SLR a couple months ago. I've been using a point-and-shoot camera for so long I've pretty much forgot how to take pictures... Hike, this was compliments of bro Lani and Josh - you know me better than that! Don't you keep up with the raffles?
-
The back on my V5 was so tight the "sticky-ball" wouldn't budge it...

T, thanks, bud. Really is almost too nice - I don't see it getting much wrist time in the shop! Halo, to be honest it is etched/engraved so lightly it's almost imperceptible unless you get it under some magnification so I'll probably leave well enough alone...
-
So far my experience with this movement mirrors Lani's. It is extremely smooth when winding and setting and is only about 2 sec/day slow so far.

I picked up a rather inaccurate COMEX Sea Dweller for use as the basis of a project. For the price it would make a good beater unless somebody that knew about such things decided to give it more than a quick glance. Now I just need to figure out what to make out of it! The Bad: The COMEX logo is all wrong in size as well as font. Really nothing more needs to be said. The case back really isn't correct for a COMEX Sea Dweller from what I can research. The Crystal does not match any COMEX Sea Dwellers with this style dial that I can find. The Good: I think it has a fairly nice non-SEL band Nice dome plexi crystal Case has thru lug holes. Even though they will need to be drilled it's easier/quicker when these pilot holes are there. An OK case back for a regular Sea Dweller. Case has old style He valve. For your viewing pleasure or displeasure as the case may be.

DG2813 from cousins with recessed cannon pin!
jmb replied to plaifender's topic in General Discussion
The ofrei 2813s I've bought have the taller "seconds" cannon. Like you, I got a cousins that had the recessed pin and my seconds hand would not attach... BUT, their 4813s have short canons... -
Yeah, don't feel so much like a greenhorn no more...

Makes sense. 'Nuff said...

I don't think ours has ever been down (it was wonky for a couple of days when I upgraded software once) more than an hour or two - and that rarely. We use bluehost...
-
Lani, I've wondered why the bills are so high. On the forum I administer the hosting package we have is very reasonable and we have unlimited bandwidth, maybe we should shop around... We changed hosts about a year ago and it was relatively painless. New host, install software, backup/restore, DNS change, fini!

Ha, seeing "[censored]" pop up in posts makes me laugh as I can then substitute words and come up with funny sentences sometimes! On the forum I administer I can set up a translation table for the "censor" so I can have it substitute different words. It's hillarious... I always atleast de-case the movement and usually the tube but if leaving all that on I would think it still good to protect the crown in some way from an errant slip! Maybe some thin "heat-shrink" tubing on the crown?
-
Yeah, been watching it and when it got over $700 it was too rich for my blood! So, I ordered a Datejust and a rotary table for my mill and have decided to build one...
-
Probably doesn't matter. This was a $108 watch and I just received a $300+ watch that has engraving is slightly off! I don't know if is just the luck of the draw or there's a factory or two that have figured it out. I got this Daytona from watcheden.com/idolreplicas.com but that was in August which was forever ago in the rep world. I'm luck, I only have two out of 14 watches with rehaut engraving so I guess I'm lucky to have stuck with cheapies and vintage! Good luck...
-
Believe it or not I have a "budget" a21j Daytona that has perfect rehaut engraving!
-
Arthur, I think what you might be seeing as an "etched surround" is just the plastic protective strip on the case...
-
The printing is slightly slanted but the major thing is the marker. As with mine I think it would not be noticeable on the wrist if the marker was straight. The attached pic has some yellow reference lines added...
