  1. I'm sorry to hear about your scratch, but look at it this way...at least it's a rep and not a gen. After a night of too much beer and vodka I awoke to find my two month old genuine Rolex Submariner had a scratch on the crystal right at nine o'clock. I have no idea how it got there. And yes, it is a genuine Rolex...I got it from an AD last May. As you might expect, I was p!ssed. I did some research and found this article about repairing sapphire crystal scratches: hxxp://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t=tree&goto=1932539&rid=0 (don't know it the anonymizer is working, so I replaced the tt in http with xx) here is a link to the diamond past: hxxp://www.mtixtl.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=322 I haven't tried this yet and kind of forgot about the scratch, but one day plan on trying it. Anyway, sorry to hear about your misfortune. You could always send the watch up to me in North Florida if it bothers you too much. -- marcus
  2. I have one that's about a year old. I wear it all the time and so far haven't had any problems. I bought it used on this forum last Nov (I think) for $180, so if it dies I'm not out much.
  3. An old Lello crown that I bought last year off of the RWG trade section. BTW, still missing the watch...glad it was sent to The Zigmeister though. -- m4rcus
  4. Man I want this watch. Why did this thing have to arrive just when I swore off reps and decided to start saving money??? Nice review and pics. I might have to break my promise to myself on this one.
  5. Yep, they want to replace the crystal. So, that's what I'm thinking...I'm leaning towards giving it a try.
  6. Thanks. I found the same micron diamond paste on that site. I'm still hesitant on using it...anyone have some experience with diamond paste and watch crystals?
  7. Thanks for posting this review. I have been looking at this one for a while now. I want a chronograph, but am worried about the A7750 movement. This looks interesting. -- m4rcus
  8. Well, somehow I was able to scratch my gen Submariner's "virtually un-scratchable" sapphire crystal...a hairline scratch about 4 mm in length. I visited my AD and called a local Rolex service center and was told by both that the crystal needed to be replaced. According to them there is no way to buff out a scratch. I did some looking online and found the following article from Timezone: Timezone Article Has anyone tried this before? If so, can you recommend where I can get the diamond paste? Also, is there another way to repair this? Thanks in advance, Marcus
  9. I don't really know. I read that it had to have acetone though. I just grabbed my fiance's and went to work but then realized that her's doesn't contain acetone...and it still worked. I don't think you can really damage the deployant with the nail polish remover, but I can't swear by it.
  10. Yep, I did the same thing... on Don strap... and removed the black paint on the buckle with nail polish remover and lots of toothpicks...
  11. Today: Budget MMXL on Don strap with deployant: I removed the black paint with nail polish remover and lots of toothpicks: This weekend: Probably back to the Sub:
  12. I'm in too. Sorry to hear about the paypal problems. Bastages!
  13. Thanks. It's the perfect size for my wrist. I have larger watches but always go make to the 40 mm ones. I ended up buying it while my rep sub from Josh was getting relumed and a new bezel insert installed by The Zigmeister. Now I just wear the gen and the rep sits in the watch box.
  14. My gen sub (please ignore the pasta sauce at 11 on the bezel...I just noticed that )
  15. Recently... Josh's $188 swiss rolex sub that I got superlumed by The Zigmeister (no other mods) - Hot tub on the Carnival Valor and cave tubing in Belize Swiss SFSP that I got superlumed by The Zigmeister - Hot tub on the Carnival Valor, the beach at Isle Roaton and pool in Costa Maya Mexico. Basically I used these two reps on the cruise as my activity watches. They both passed with flying colors. -- m4rcus
  16. Sweet. I really like Oris, but I don't know about the regulator version of anything. I don't know if I can retrain my feeble brain. I'm taking a rep break too. The last three new watches that I have bought new are all gens...Tag F1, Rolex sub, and now an Hamilton Jazzmaster Viewmatic. Haven't taken any pics yet, so just a stock one will do.
  17. Hey Simon, It looks great to me, but of course I'm biased and a bit jealous now too. -- m4rcus
  18. WOW. That looks really nice. Impressive rep. I've been looking for some information about this watch and stumbled upon this thread. I swore off A7750s a few months ago, but this makes me want to change my mind.
  19. Thanks. I think I'll give it a shot when I get some time.
  20. I have two rep 16610 subs. An asian movement noob-a-like and a swiss movement originally from Josh. Does anyone know if the swiss one's hands, dial and movement be transplanted into the asian's case without modification? I don't have pictures right now, but I think most of us know what they look like. Also, I would like to take the crown and stem from the swiss case. Is that possible without changing crown tubes? I ask because the cyclops position is much better on the asian case, but I just got the dial and hands relumed on the swiss watch so I would like to keep them. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, m4rcus
  21. the two gens that I'm thinking about next are in that range... Alpina Startimer: http://www.alpina-watches.com/corporate/Ty...86&offset=1 And Sinn 103 Ti http://www.watchbuys.com/Master/SI-091.htm
  22. Personally, no I won't, but my GF is a different story. Two weeks ago I went into an AD to look at Breitlings. While in there I found a Rolex Submariner. I knew that if I didn't get it I would regret it because that is what I really wanted. So, while closing the deal with the AD the salesman asks my GF if she wants her jewelry cleaned. "Sure" she says and takes all her rings and her Ruby's rep two tone Rolex Lady-Datejust off and hands them to him...all of this is not know to me. Well, it took a long time for me to complete the purchase...the store was quite busy and there were just two salespeople. So around 10 - 15 minutes pass and finally the salesman reappears with here rings and watch. The salesman comments on what a nice watch she has...and it looked really clean and shinny. I really couldn't believe that she did that. She said that she knew that I would be nervous about it so she didn't tell me. Anyway, I don't know if the AD salesman knew or not...but he didn't let on if he did.
  23. I have a rep black rubber Breitling strap and a gen blue rubber strap. The rep's rubber isn't that bad, but the strap keeper is awful and the so is the buckle. In my opinion the gen strap is the only way to go. The Breitling catalog has them priced at $75.
  24. Thanks for the help everyone. I think I'm a bit closer to making the decision to part with it. -- m
