  1. Thanks it should be the ubiquitous 2824 by ETA. It could be a SeaGull but I haven't opened it. The font is correct for an ETA and the beat is 28800 bph or 4 Hz, which is 1:1 to the original iterations based on the 2892-A2 ( OMEGA Cals. 1108 1109 and 1120).
  2. Insanely impressive collection! Thank you for sharing! Cheers, Alex
  3. For the longest time, I've wanted an SMP. I've owned a few gen Omegas (Speedmasters), but never a SMP. It just seemed to big on my wrist when I pulled the trigger. At a fraction of the cost I now have this beauty. Thanks to PT for being so patient with me (I had a lot of requirements on this watch). Only difference that stands out to me is the "counter part" of the seconds hand is not long enough, and of course the screws instead of pins. The end links are excellent. You would think that screws would be easier to remove than the pins, but not in my specimen. The screws are a little soft, and they were forced in, bonding with the middle links of the attaching link rather than with their own link. I keep reading on here that the quality of the SMP is not as high as it once was, and I can say that other than the bracelet, I don't think there is any lower quality on this one. I'd be surprised if there was a higher quality rep of this specimen. Thanks PT!
  4. The resounding answer is YES!!! so as long as you can live with hands that do not move (glued in place), and an exhibition back showcasing a tacky movement through a mineral glass. I think I've seen it actually.
  5. Wow linkukbora, if I didn't know any better I'd think that was gen! (who did u get it from if you don't mind me asking). Here's what I'm wearing today, awaiting a SMP from PT. I'm wearing an old rep of a Yacht-Masta' with the thin minute hand and the red in the rolesium dial has faded. mag is pretty good and that's a custom date wheel that I made on photoshop (back when I got this the open 9 and 6 dominated the market). Sorry about the fuzzy pic, I could not keep still!
  6. I own a total sleeper, comfortable enough to sleep in too. Nice deep tuned low rumbling American V8. 4.6-liter, 32-valve V8 DOHC 300 bhp Bosch ASR5 antilock braking system Top Speed: 150 MPH (240km/h) 0-60 MPH: 6.6 sec (7.1 official) 1/4 mi.: 14.8 sec 440watt BOSE surround (stock) "Continuously variable road-sensing suspension (CVRSS) provides an infinite range of damping settings, from boulevard soft to race car firm. Magnasteer is a speed-sensitive steering system that provides just the right amount of steering assist for a wide range of driving conditions. "Two directional sensors, a yaw rate sensor and lateral acceleration sensor work with the car's suspension, steering, anti-lock brake system and traction control system to determine what the driver intends to do. If the car doesn't respond as expected, the StabiliTrak computer sends commands to the car's traction control and brakes to help keep the car on the intended course."
  7. From what I see in pictures the latest TAG links models are that high-quality that the Omega SMP belongs to. Those Links models have excellent hands (crisp cut from sheets of perfect metal), and dials... and cases. I wish I was more into the LINK design--but I'm not. There are slightly lower grades of everything available, the trick is to avoid those. I'm waiting to receive my SMP, and can't wait. I've owned a gen Speedy and the Venus 175 Speedy rep, and both have had good bracelets and clasps (the gen speedy had the more confusing slide clasp like the old school constellation). But I concur, Omega vs Rolex, no comparison with the bracelets (in real life).
  8. Absolutely outstanding. I'd never think that's a rep. Everything from the bracelet to the hands and dial are spot-on.
  9. 4.6-liter, 32-valve V8 DOHC 300 bhp Bosch ASR5 antilock braking system Top Speed: 150 MPH (240km/h) 0-60 MPH: 6.5 sec (7.1 official) "Continuously variable road-sensing suspension (CVRSS) provides an infinite range of damping settings, from boulevard soft to race car firm. 10. I'm surprised noone has chimed in the real answer. It is exactly the same movement, with the difference that one has a day and a date (2836). The 2824 only has the date. By day, I mean the 3 character version: MON TUE WED, THU, FRI, SAT, SUN sometimes available in different languages. It is simply a few extra parts and another disc--nothing else is different. Because they're the same movement design, watch companies purchase whatever is on sale. If they don't need the day of the week, they can take the disc out or leave it in--either way it's all the same. The disc mecanism for the day adds a fraction of a millimeter in thickness. There is another variation which is the 2834 that has the full day spelled out (like a Rolex Day-Date)--again same movement design, but that one has a larger diameter module on the dial side (day of the week is a disc on the outside of the date wheel). yet another version is the 2846 but the difference there is the escapement and less jewels (and a slower beat of 21600). You can probably still read up on these at www.eta.ch
  11. In the 1970s they experimented with the hi-beat watches. I think that's when the 2824 beat that fast--something tells me it was adapted in a version for Ulysse-Nardin (I could be way off).
  12. I've read about this "genuine hand stack" sequence, but I have yet to see a picture of one. U got any? It would take some real fanangling to give it the proper handstack... at least to the ETA.
  13. That's awesome Uniquitous! I bet that seconds hand glides at 36,000. I'd like that better than the toned down Rollie version (28800). Nice!
  14. Looks great! Where do u get a spare datewheel? I used to make my own with my printer.. but they are fuzzy, some are not so bad. Can they be purchased somewhere? Also, I had a sub, with the not so great date font, or pearl. I gota genuine insert and ground the hell out of it to get it to fit. Originally I had gone to a machine shop to make the bezel deep enough to just snap in, but the operator squeezed the bezel and it became out of round so it looked okay but would not turn. I fixed that with a bezel off and Invicta Sub. Later I purchased Tudor Sub hands, and that made the biggest difference. The Genuine one has extremely high quality hands that are "domed" like the hour and minute hand but also the seconds hand. Also the seconds hand does not look tubular in the genuine model. It looks like it is cut from a thin sheet of metal, so it is very sharp and has sharp edges. The reps' second hand just does not look as fine. I've seen pics of reps with hands that look like genuine. I don't know if I'm explaining myself well. LOL. Cheers! I want a sub again and yours looks great.
  15. Frankly I am a WIS. The rep pictured is probably as close as you can ever get. I'd buy it. There are few Cartier connoisseurs out there anyway. It's got the great movement, great detail on the dial and regarding the detail there--there has been quite a few different variations of the same dial in the genuine one (minor, probably due to different dial outsorcing). If we're nit picking, the way I tell the difference is in the hands. The rivet in the genuine is brass colored. The reps always have them painted. So on a gen model you will see a little "gold" spec in the center of the hands. Look at one in person and you will know what I mean. What I'm saying is -- awesome rep.
  16. The way I can tell the difference between real and rep in the GMT Master II and Explorer II, is the 24 hr hand. On the rep it is located below all the other hands, next to the dial. On the gen it is located between the hour and minute hands (!). Cheers.
