Hi Pug, Are you willing to describe where in MBK they are sold? I'm through there quite frequently. Never saw anything spectacular. Cheers, Steve.

It's not a half-bad effort It would help to have the link... http://www.cclv.net/PP-097.htm King's site.

That may actually be someone who doesn't know he has a rep. Pretty stupid otherwise.

Take A Look At This....
alt.watch.obsessive replied to new & improved osteopath's topic in General Discussion
Man, that Jay moves fast! ;-) -
Hi Richard, Thanks for taking the time to do this. You've been on a great roll! I too share your suspicion that the rolex flaws seem so obvious as to be intentional. But other watches such as Cartier and Panerai seem to be replicated close to 1:1, as do other Rolex models. Thus, I find it hard to believe the CGs on a sub are the line not to be crossed. I would suggest a pow-wow with Jay to see his interest. The SD would sell like crazy, and we don't REALLY have a rep of it right now from main stream suppliers to my knowledge (i.e. something not in a sub case/bezel) so he could market it. I also thought very hard about quality watches that don't exist and are simple enough to do (Rolex excluded). I agree with TTK that the GP is perfect--a sports watch that is from the last "big" house for which no reps (at all--correct) exist. 1:1 there will be pleanty of interest there too. It got my vote. Cheers, Steve.

Gen Sub Date Mag Inconsistencies

I am of the opinion that the last few serials have lower powered mags than before. For reps I would still error slightly on the large side. -
Will We See Valgranges Movements In Replicas?
alt.watch.obsessive replied to gran's topic in General Discussion
Let me translate...It costs a lot to make small movements, so, since consumers are for some reason willing to pay big bucks for big watches, we can make more money with a bigger..err...more powerful movement. Just a thought. Steve. -
Paul @ Http://www.wo-mart.com
alt.watch.obsessive replied to Le-LibanoMarseillais's topic in General Discussion
Paul is great as long as everyting goes well (ordering, delivery, the watch works). He is tough to deal with if you have a problem. If the savings is worth the roll of the dice, go for it. -
Help With Cyclops Removal
alt.watch.obsessive replied to alt.watch.obsessive's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
Thanks. I'll try heat on a cheapo watch and see how I do. Cheers, Steve. -
Hi guys, I'm learning to mod my own submariners and have completed the CG's and have a new insert on the way. So far so good. Next up is the cyclops. Could someone help me with the removal? Specifically: Do I heat it up, or try to pop it off with a razor blade? I'm under the assumption I can reuse the same cyclops, correct? Do I need to do anything special to clean it? I think I'm OK on the UV glue once I get to that point. Thanks in advance! Steve.

My Non-branded Davidsen Arrived

Wow...looks great! -
One submariner prepaid waiting for CG work since Aug. 8. I think in fairness we should have a similar way to alert others when work is completed.

Nobody interested? I compared the photos with some images of the genuines. Obviously, this does not allow comments on the case dimensions and such. Aside from the problems above, the dial on the regular watch is fairly close. The Schaffhausen is a little too large and close to the IWC, but not bad. The lume appears to have a "frame" (for lack of a better word) on the rep that may or may not not be there on the gen (I have never noticed it on the gen pictures). BTW, I'm not sure they all have a white second hand, that seems to come and go in the images. On the spitfire, the raised area of the dial is well done and it clips the 10 and 11 as it should. Here, the Schaffhausen" is much too big as is the printing on the lower dial. Both cases look OK to me, but again, certainly can't tell just by the images. I'm not one to make a fuss over hands being 1/2mm too short and that sort of thing, so keep that in mind. Hopefully whoever made the port chrono will tackle this next and really nail it. Other thoughts? Steve.

New as far as I know. No ugly "IWC" on the case side opposite the crown (can be seen in one of his pictures) and a solid back. I'm sure experts in this model can comment on the accuracy. Should not say "UTC" on the back, second hand should be white, correct? Steve.

40 Mm Pam Rep With Swiss Movement......
alt.watch.obsessive replied to tenacious_b's topic in General Discussion
I have one from EL that is collecting dust. PM me if you can't find one from the dealers. Cheers, Steve. -
OK, now I can't see, I have that first problem Jake mentioned, and a headache It's a fine rep. On to the Mark IV.
-
They have a more normal GMT too with similar functionality at a nice price. Steve.

This may be up there, but I'm a bit confused as to the conclusion here. The rep that I have (gold hands) DOES appear to have recessed "dots" from certain angles. You have to really look hard. They look raised until you tip it right to the light, in which case it is just like the gen picture above. To be honest, my eyes are too old to tell which is the illusion, but it can look just like that picture. Steve.

Ditto here on the QC. Keeping good time and cosmetically perfect. My only adverse reaction is to the IWC design...I would have thought the watch would be a bit flatter. Maybe the reps are thicker than the original, but all comments make it sound like they are the same. Anyhow, I haven't been this pleased with a rep since my first Pam.

Iwc Portuguese Group Buy.....
alt.watch.obsessive replied to Richard Tracy's topic in General Discussion
Got mine today in SLC USA! 20mm on the strap. Yea! I'm going to give the brushed casing a slight polish to get it somewhere close to gen standards, but otherwise, it's sharp! -
Group Question Re Group Buys
alt.watch.obsessive replied to TJGladeRaider's topic in General Discussion
I participated in the group buy (IWC), although I am not the best one to answer so I'll keep it quick. Your points are valid and it is important to think of the dealers as partners. I note only the rather dramatic decrease in price that accompanied the group buy, essentially from $350 to $250 at the regular dealers. Whether we saved $20 or $120 is open for debate (or paid $10 too much if you pre-order now from Paul). Moreover, I believe the final count was about 30. I'll bet Eddie sold well more than that in the interim. I find the price decrease interesting, if indeed it had anything to do with the buy. The conventional wisdom around here is that we are a small segment of the overall market. But this relatively small group appeared to have an influence on the price that would suggest otherwise. Or...the prive would have come down anyhow. IMHO, of course. Steve. -
Iwc Portuguese Group Buy.....
alt.watch.obsessive replied to Richard Tracy's topic in General Discussion
@ watchwatcher...Sorry, my camera is on the fritz. The auction is here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...N%3AIT&rd=1 @ krustybrand...I approximated 20mm from the photos. I could be COMPLETELY wrong about this, in which case I figured I could use it for something else. Maybe someone who has it knows for sure. Cheers, Steve. -
I'd love to see them make the regular Port pictured above with the same movement as the minute repeater rep and a frozen power reserve! I get the idea IWCs are receiving attention from the factories that really know what they're doing.
