  1. Well sure is a big word in this game mate But its more a question of when rather than if... But having said that I would be just as happy with the current Noob OTB mate... especially for that money...indeed I have one
  2. Its a shame that there are not more comments here as for me this is the best thread on the front page of this forum and several more beyond... The thing about PAMs is they are a package of history, variation, ambiguties and anomalies that will keep you learning from now until eternity.... Its threads and work like this that push the boundaries of our hobby and in turn push the makers to look at producing new models ...it is only by the responses and involvemnt of guys here that will help to do that... but it seems threads on QC or 'whats the best..' gets more interest than what this actual interest is about... or more importantly how you can learn and appreciate more.. I recall my first thread on here as ..'What do PAM casebacks mean by the letters next to the numbers..' since that first completely daft and noobie question I would like to think I knwo a bit more about PAMs and because of what I have learnt I have grown to love this marque.... not because its fashionable or an expensive watch or to impress my friends workmates etc but because it has a character and a history.... and anything is possible And the reason I have that love is because of guys like Mike...whose knowledge and experience is way way beyond anything that any one has here... and its because of him that I know more about PAMs.. I have replied on another forum regarding the actual OP but here I just want to say a big public thank you to Mike for the time and effort he makes in this hobby/interest and the fact he is willing to take the time to share it with us... I aint trying to have a go here just to gently remind you guys that without these sorts of threads and members like Mike we wouldnt have the standard of PAM OTB reps we do and wouldnt have sections like this attracting such a wealth of info and shared knowledge... actually about PAMs rather than just 'Who has the best sub..?' Great work Mike Thank you for making me a better PAM head
  3. +1 on the ghost 237 but have a look at the new 89E... its a pretty ecent OTB rep... also the 88 has been updated slightly however it still dont float my boat.. But they are all a lot of money... As for getting them ..you can go to any of the dealers here...they will all sell the same one as they are from the H maker...just remember to ask for the specific version model/maker you want... or send a link If you go to smaller delaers you will save money on watch and shipping ....
  4. +1 But given the construction used on these newer subs it might be worth taking it off to see the issue...its probaly the retainer is loose or slightly off kilter
  5. Its a common issue with H maker subdials.... if you notice there auto stuff like say the new 299N it has that satin finsih to the subdial It is a flaw mate... you can look to matt lacquer the dial I have done it before and it helps but never gets that gen look properly up close The original V1 288K with 7750 has the correct subdial..so I am guessing its a mnufacturing consequence with thier newer dials/ dial maker.. The newer version 288K comes with 2 different movements the 7750 is one but both have the same sort of flaws... most notably the case edges as you look at it side on its too flat at the point where corner meets lug edge side...then there is the crown and logo again its wrong shape and size..the distance of wires from case etc etc I think H maker must have used another subcontracted maker for some of those parts..but couldnt say why? Overall the newer versions of 288K isnt a patch on the V1....
  6. I wont bother then Just do it S Though you can expect a newer version shortly.... from Noob
  7. The good close shot is a DL... Dwaynne has been wearing PAMs for years..mainly a 299...which he also wore as a beater
  8. Your right of course and pics are like that ...sometimes I think we all place too much reliance on them inthis game when comparing and critiquing.. But my comment was based on the light as it is and looking at it compared to the balance and centre wheel colouration from that lighting... I wonder if you could do it with a little copper paste like the plumbers use given the amounts I doubt it would effect the original compound...
  9. Thanks for doing that mate...it makes it much easier to assess from a personal POV. The first thing that strikes my eye is just how much more the gen is more of a Rose Gold or even a Brass with high copper .... look at the wheels for comparison in lighting as it is.. So if you cant source an closer RG is it possible to find a coppertone admixture? Afterall that what gives Rosegold its reddish tint But in terms of giving the plates some gen life thats a great job mate
  10. Cant you identify a laser weld with an ultra sonic sound test? Wouldnt that be easier than radiography? And cheaper...
  11. Funny you say that I was looking at one the other day that I took a shine to.... the KMU 48... the others are too small for my taste though.. The Sisu though is bleedin enormous and weighs over a pound !!
  12. The Sisu or the Lum-Tec Then you have the Storm, The TechnoMarine, Prometheus, Jorg Gray, Orient, Dievas, I mean it goes on and on... I could list more but why not just go to the watch blogs and watch review sites like Blogtowatch etc as these list brands known unknown and new etc Here is a link to those sites mate or rather some of them http://www.invesp.com/blog-rank/watches I aint sure why you think Stowa is $150 they get much more expensive than that... most come with decorated Swiss movements
  13. That looks pretty good mate but it always help to see it under the glass and in situ..as getting to close at this skill point is very hard to feel satisfied... How are you cleaning overspill out of interest I only ask because I can see what looks like above the 04.. But mate you are doing an awesome job... I am very envious of your efforts and ability
  14. But if that's the case then why not post pics or state dimensions those aren't language dependant or why not .... I mean we could go on and on regardless of any language barrier... Just for those that think you aren't getting the pics... There are no pics there is nothing except 'Watch pin strap'
  15. I really cant get my head around this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...E:B:SS:GB:1123 I just dont know what part of this sale is more surreal ??!! :)
  16. I always thought that a nice siena or cognac leather looked nice on these.. Its a dark brown with a reddish hue... its not red at all but that hue really lifts the case colour Try going for one with a PreV style ..ie box stitched with ecru thread... finished edges etc etc There are plenty of pics about...try Dirks pics for examples then ask Mario at Orloff straps as he does dsome nice straps at great prices
