I know what you mean mate.... I guess its easier because the process of ordering and the forums like here and the community it creates makes it easier... if not then almost an aside to the actual issue of counterfeiting... There is no defense to it or rather nothing that can justify it in a righteous way....I dont mean specifically in terms of watches but in terms of counterfeiting across the board.. At the end of the day counterfeiting of any item is tied up with all sorts of underworld/illegal activity and/or helps advance the aims and ambitions of those people involved... There are many dealers outside our forums that are not quite as 'reputable' as our TDs....so on the whole we cannot as buyers of these products justify it in any legal sense.. However I would not compare myself to a shop lifter..... maybe you could say I am more like the guy that places my order with the shoplifter to get me specific items... Does it make me feel bad? Well I guess I feel no worse than the guys that make orders or purchase contracts with unregulated companies and dismal emplyment records who then go on to reep huge profits from the consumers they sell too.... or the individuals that are party to the decisions that drive our financial institutions and their attitude and actions against individuals or those of members of governments that overlook the interests of ordinary people in favour of the multi nationals and other interested parties that have financial power and undue influence...

Its a hit and miss affair mate.... it really comes down to the QC rather than the QR itself... Personally if I know I am going to use several straps on a QR case on a regular basis then I use good quality QR strap bars.. that way I am not worried about overusing those crappy springs in the QR !!

You are right but it is an option with most if you specify.... But it is just as much a risk as EMS (Parcelforce)..... especially if you request a low value on the customs declaration.... that after all is one reason packages get pulled out.... If you use DHL etc ( which incidentally is $35 for under 500grammes from GZ to UK in three working days) you should state value at around $100 or over if not you will still attract attention.... remember customs main target is revenue not counterfeit goods... But when you do that you will attract surcharges in UK.... Admin (average is about £13.50) for carrier, VAT (20%) but duty wont be attributable unless over $140 ish ... Vat is chatrgeable on the item regardless of it being a gift, being a returned item etc if over £39 ish... the total also includes the shipping cost itself... So $90 value $35 postage will be total of $125 converted at HMR&C standard currency rates.... So if say it was Parcelforce then your total charge will be £30.30p payable before delivery... If any carrier thinks they can get an extra payment from declared values they tend to ensure that it gets through

Its big money for sure and a lot of bent money in it.... Counterfeiting goods goes to the most ridiculous of stuff..... Razor blades, Shampoo, Toothpaste..... etc etc.... Even chocolate... and of course fags... alcohol..... cigars... you name it... its counterfeited!! You tend to find those sorts of goods in the fleamarkets and pound/dollar shops....

Sitting it customs is not a biggie TBH... its common and its a crap shoot.... There is no way to tell if your package is seized UNTIL its stated on the tracking update.... So until then... and as hard as it is.... you just need to be patient.... think positively... it aint over till the fat bird sings... Its all part of this game... you take the up and the downs..... but please dont worry until you need to... Remember most dealers will replace it... so your only enemy is time... and that cant hurt anyone.... (in this sense) I have had packages held in customs for 4 weeks before.... another for 3 weeks.... and one even got reshipped to Germany and then shipped back... !! I have had a package arrive 3 months later from abroad.... indeed the replacement package arrived before the original one !! And please remember for every package that gets caught.... hundreds get through.... it may sound like the odds are changing and maybe they are slightly... but in the grander picture the increase is negligible....all you are seeing here is a few unfortunate cases and a lot of unknown ones.... IMHO.... if you are waiting over a week now just lose the track number... put it out your head for a month... focus on something else as either way you aint going to make things better or worse by thinking about it....and you wont be able to request the replacement till its confirmed...

Why in general do gen watch owners hate reps ?
PeteM replied to alterego's topic in General Discussion
Women can vote ??!!! Whatchu talking about Willis !!! -
LOL ... I always found a good way to get to know the forum and those sorts of answers is to look at the threads relating to your particular watch and the type of mods it needs... because mods and the skills of various modders vary and are to some extent model related especially so with AR which varies depending on the gens and likewise the best aftermarket AR source can vary...

Having read this thread through... I just got to say ..." I dont know what to say!" Just dumbfounded completely dumbfounded !

There are many reasons why mate.... but long and short is money.... it always comes down to the source of the film investment, sponsorship and marketing... to wear his own watch on set may well require him to make a payment for product placement... or be governed by his contract for the film... I recall reading in the first film that Sly did insist on all stars wearing PAMs for or in certain parts of the movie.. each were given several PAMs as gifts to wear.. I assume its the same in this film given there are so many actors wearing one in it... even the behind scenes shots showed some crew members wearing them... could be set up as pics or they too got some gifts !!

PVD is a general term encompassing many different type of coating, DLC is one of these types of coating. For example, if we are talking about DLC, then DLC is the material and PVD is the process of applying it. Think of it as this: PVD is the brush, and DLC is the paint. PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) is the method used to deposit thin layers of material (e.g. DLC) by condensation of vapor in a high temperature and vacuum environment. DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) and ADLC (Amorphous Diamond-Like Carbon - a specific type of DLC) are vaporised coatings. DLC is done with the bonding of high energy precursive carbon rapidly cooled down on the surface. It is very similar to the process of making synthetic diamonds, meaning that the carbon coating has the same attributes as diamonds. They are extremely hard and very resistant to scratches, thus making the coated metal surfaces more durable. DLC is a very hard coating, but the thickness is also a factor. Generally speaking, the usual coating thickness is just 5 to 10 μm, or 0.005 to 0.010 mm. Something more to keep in mind, the plating itself is only as good as the post-machine finish and cleaning of the underlying metal. There's also a lot of room for quality in the application itself. Properly done, even good old plating is amazingly durable while crappy DLC is still crappy DLC. So as far as reps go.... who knows.... it really comes down to prep and method as traditional GP can be very durable as anything like the rep method of the above if its correctly applied... There are so many variables .... its more a case of try and see... as we all know you could order 2 of the same watch from the same dealer & from the same maker and both could vary dramatically and even be both coated differently... in terms of durability, colour, strength etc etc
