PVD on B&R rubber strap doesn't match the watch
geo1nah2a replied to panerai22's topic in Other Brands Area
The 'stop on its own' might be just a caliber off-beat. Take it to a watchsmith or see some of the posts in the watch repair section for a DIY solution ... sorry for the off topic.. I have a rep rubber strap on a pan196 that is hard as 10 years old tupperware. My omega PO, in contrast, is silky soft. Guess I will not be getting the 'ruber strap' if I order a B&R... off topic again.. Sorry, no experience with pdv'd bR's. -
Well, if you want to go with 2 * 47mm pams, then get a 127 and one of the vintage panerais without the crown guard and consider the ones with the wired strap holder too. Go over the watch repair and upgrade section to see some nice examples of vintage panerais. Do a search for vintage panerai or 3646, 2533, 6152, 6154 and see what you like.

The 217 you posted has the CG upside down. The lever should be on the down side. The 217 is designed to be worn on the right hand. A lot of people wear it on the left, so that the CG will not dig in their hands. Any photos of the back?

One more reason to wait for the mini fiddy. The fiddy case is very nice to wear, and the 47 might be too much for you. All panerai addicts, have to try sooner or later a fiddy. This is your chance/size. Even if you come across a paneristi you can sweet talk your way out of you wearing a rep, since panerai hasn't released a 44fiddy yet.. What is a girl supposed to do? The arktos is too technical..the bezel is too round and tall. Forget your first auto too. The auto open back can be quite embarrassing. BTW: Sorry to interrupt the flow.. Have you paid for your watch? There is a chance that the mini fiddy is not available anywhere, and you are being dealt the old telephone marketing practice: get the lead by promising anything, and then we will figure out what they want from our inventory.. I am not saying that because it is Paul involved. I have only good transactions so far with him.. Just trying to get the whole picture..

You are correct about the calculation of force. But dynamic pressure has to do with speed of the object and the density of the fluid. (P dynamic =

Well, the damage to the watch based on the speed of entry in the water has little to do with the weight of the guy.. If you have a WWF 150kg wrestler jump off a 10m cliff, simultaneously with a 42kg balarina, they will enter the water at the same time, with the same speed. Ok, air resistance can come into play, but it is will nt change things dramatically. I should thank you since your post got me into reading about a subject I had neglected for years. And since a lot of people don't share the hobby of diving off cliffs, here is an other action that is close to the same speed: punching. An average punch is around 5-10m/sec at the full extention of the hand. So, if you are wearing a watch, and punch downwards the surface of the water, you would expect to have the same results, only the turbulance of air following your fist will make it harder to compute. Still, don't go throwing full speed punches around a pool if your watch is unlikely to survive a 10 meter dive..unless you have a good reason that is

I agree with all the lines above! (yes, even the 111 thing)

No There! Happier now? IF I could choose only between these two reps, I would go for the mini fiddy (your initial choice) That being said, if you decide to sell either of them on the second hand market, you will not lose a lot of money. New members are more confident buying locally. Hope this helps a bit. BR

1. Start with a 111. It is part of the ritual 2. Plan ahead: You will end up with more than one panerai. Having a bad one for start, guarantees that it will get no wrist time in the future. 3. Stay with manuals in the beginning. P.R.display and autos with dates are harder to get right in low price.

I was looking for a balance 721 of a 6497.. CousinsUK answered "apologies, product obsolete/discontinued".. Maybe I should have a closer look at the pictures you will be posting.. 10$ for a chinese donor maybe? I'll have 10 and perform various experiments on them! If only they deliver this low quantities..

Let's try to break the spell completely! "Because of the historical disparity between what watch makers claim, and what watches are actually expected to be able to survive, the ISO Standard specifies a complex testing procedure for each mark. For example to receive the "Water Resistant 30M" mark, the watch must be able to survive 60 minutes under water at a depth of 10 cm (2.54 inches) followed by 10 minutes under a pressure of 3 ATM or approximately 73 PSI, with no water leakage into the case." Well, let me just rephrase the last sentence: "10 minutes under a pressure of 3 ATM or approximately 30 meters, with no water leakage into the case" So, 30M by ISO standards is 30 meters for 10 minutes. (3ATM is the static pressure under 30 meters of sea water.) So, according to static pressure, wearing a 30M watch, diving from a 10 meter cliff, we are ok: We are more likely to go 3-4 meters down, and stay under the surface for less than 10 seconds. Look at the Olympic divers doing so. The key in your analysis is dynamic pressure.. Correct? http://scienceworld.wolfram.com/physics/DynamicPressure.html "Dynamic pressure is the component of fluid pressure that represents fluid kinetic energy (i.e., motion), while static pressure represents hydrostatic effects" So, how can we add these two together? P total= P static + P dynamic. Let's try calculating the dynamic part of the above mentioned dive: P dynamic =

Nice happy end. Wear it well again! BTW: I hope you understand that you brought this to yourself.. Starting such a topic can only bring the original poster bad luck and vengeance from the insulted watches!

Good idea. Ideally this section should be common for ALL boards.. Old and new rwg, rwi, trc, rg.. Locked and maintained by the admins.

Bell&Ross, chrono, 46mm. Long shot, but I say BR01-94 Titanium. Less shinning than SS, and square "3".. Any more frames?

No indication yet. My guess is more IWC CD level, than Hublot BB. What is interesting is that Andrew said this is NOT from the same maker of the IWC CD.. Let's hope for some supplier competition.. No photos out yet.

Followed Andrew's posts too. I am excited for the aquatimer chrono. Have to visit the AD and check if the 42 still feels small.. Wearing the PO after a whole week, now the 217 seems big again, so maybe there is a way back from big watches

Welcome friend, most of us are members in all fora, and some of us go back to ages before rwg senior.. If you want ready made waterproof watches, just ask so your favorite collector. Silix, TTK come in mind. They offer it as additional service, sometimes at no extra cost for specific models. That, or learn how to do it yourself. Remember that when buying a rep, you have to be prepared to take some risk. Otherwise, buy gen or treat your rep as a display item. Welcome again. George

Sorry for bringing this back from the dead, but I don't like starting completely new threads: I am interested in replacing the crown tube of my almost striped 183. I am thinking of ordering the tube from cousinsuk.com since I have already an order pending. Anybody has measurements for the tube? Chris5264, since you have received and placed yourself more than one, is there any chance you can help me out? I am thinking of keeping the existing crown, and using only the tube. I know I could measure it myself, but I am trying not to destroy the 183 old tube before I get the new one. And, is there anyone with a measurement of the sapphire of the 183? I was thinking of changing mine to a higher domed one.

My friends know this PO is a rep, and yes we would have a laugh if it died on me..Strawberry daquiries under the sun help your outlook of life. Instead they asked me to get them a copy too.. And it has nothing to do with luck. Silicone, then water proof test to local watchsmith just as a precaution for what I knew: this is a simple design (no pushers or sandwitch case) so, gaskets working and lubed, should not be that hard to make it waterproof.. It has to do with the design and execution of the PO. BTW: I had a 111 die on me during a dive.. after USER error... It had survived lots of them, up to the day that I forgot to close the CG after winding it.. Multiple LV's, and 183 have gone deep in the mediterranean without any problem Wish you have the same luck as I have had with the rest of my watches I trust you were not trying to diss me, so, welcome

Gold PVD is better resistant than thin gold plate. A lot cheaper genuine manufacturers have started using this technology. The problem is our sources don't know (or want to tell) which watch is using what. I would be interested in a full platinum watch. I don't like gold.. Maybe rose gold, but this might be a fashion thing.. I would love to have a platinum Portuguese Automatik 2000:) http://www.timezone.com/library/itsabouttime/itsabout0004

Why can't this be an all gold series? I think this is why he is giving the grams of gold used in the cases. No info given on the diamonds. All in all this is an ugly series, regardless of the materials used. t looks like a hack shop work. Still, it might be the first generation of a true gold series. Bad news is that gold IS expensive compared to SS.. So, if they are looking for the same profit margins over gold cost, as in SS, then a true 18K datejust will be the same price as the gen!

Maybe they will offer a warranty for it You started it!!

A bit off topic... from the TT's info page: "The Double Window Date Aperture is Perpetually Driven, which means Date will advance from 31 to 01.." We could say that a watch has a perpetual date if it can recognize months that have only 30 days, and goes from 30 to 01... Is this the case with this complication? BTW: This complication is called 'annual calendar",. Then you have to set it once per year (vs 5..) A true perpetual takes into account leap years and february too, needing setting only once per 400years. And yes, there are watches that correct that too, they are called "secular calendar".
