hambone, the rose gold ceramic version has polished bezel. This one is a "brushed" ceramic. Still, if you feel like selling it to get this version it should sell in no time..
-
A beautiful custom strap. I like the lines that go all the way up to the lugs and across the retainer. Very stylish. The 3 hole set up adds to the "personalized feeling" and shows your skills.

No wrist shot here. Sorry It is very close to the 44PAM's (hey it is 44, right!). But there is less metal around the big bezel and the lugs are lower making it look smaller (no crown guard too..). The double AR sapphire is an attention grabber but the IWC styling (simple and elegant) helps to keep things in control. It feels a lot smaller than a big planet ocean, despite the marginal 1.5mm difference. What is your current favorite watch?

Very nice watch. If only they made it with solid rose gold. Can't see myself buying a watch at 800$ to render it useless by a stupid scratch or regular 2 year use.. (2yr is just a guess, I have seen no feed back on the quality of the plating yet) This version and a proper black magic are the versions of the HBB that I am most interested in. [rant mode] I will not be buying it now... Too many watches, only one wrist. Too many hobbies, only one wallet. (anyone into astronomy around here? ouch..) The price is right... if you know that this is the case for undeveloped markets and early adopters paying the premium. Since there is only one factory, how can there be real competition? Especially when the middle men have come in a golden balance. And for the conscious early adopters, I have nothing but respect for the people who buy at this price. And for the QC risks in the first batches, they should get hero status in our community. And for those who are not aware what they are buying into, (the constant influx of green people) all I can say is do everybody a favor: read before you buy. You are pushing prices up and you are lowering the standards by not being a informed client. The dealers and factories are in for a profit, right? I see no problem with that. They might be friendly and sound considering, but all good sales men are like that. If you think they are getting greedy and they are selling you junk at premium price, then speak up for the good of the community but in the end, the only thing you can do is vote with your wallet. [/rant mode] Back to the original poster. Thank you for the nice pictures and for making an effort to bring us better watches.

This is getting OT but I think the tritium in the vial is in gas form..
-
It is wood (or something wood like) behind glass. Just like the gen. No way it will wear off a'la green sticker.. PS: Comparing to mine, and since it doesn't have the same wood pattern, I think it IS wood.

You have come a long way Congratulations on a very diversified collection. You have to add a panerai and a planet ocean to the mix.

6241 for me too. Regardless of the bracelet.

I am just wondering if the answer to this question should be different if the IWC CD was a genuine. Would I wear it then for the new year's eve of 2010? 2020 maybe? I would find it even more exciting to introduce my grandsons someday to a well preserved IWC CD. The fact that it is a diver's watch makes it hard to fit it in such events, but in my view the IWC CV is a collectible item. You own part of a legend, you pay a tribute to a pioneer, albeit with a side order of marketing too. I know that all of this is not valid for some people, as we are talking about a rep here, but it doesn't matter to me. I love the Slevin too, apparently for different reasons. Simplicity, elegance, durable, sport but still casual, everything the iwc seems to do well. But there is competition in this segent. Now about the HBB, I tend to agree that it might lose it's shine faster than you expect for its hefty price tag.

Panerai crowns that are protected by crown guards do not screw in. The loose crown guard lever being loose could be either of the following: 1) bad crown guard. you will have to replace it or file it down so that it will apply more pressure to the crown. 2) crown guard not screwed in tight. Check if something is preventing it from sitting flush to the case. Screw in whit the lever in the open position 3) no o-ring in the crown.if this is missing, then the crown gives-in to the crown lever and doesn't push it back to snap into place. You need to take out the crown and place a o-ring.

He might be a pawn shop owner and there are a lot of desperate for cash 19year olds that are pawning their daytonas for 1000$. Or he might 'know' somebody who owns such a 'shop'. Or he owns a rolex dealership. Notice on the top row, to the right, there is one in plastic wrap. Now isn't that strange? BTW: The above are the most plausible options. He might be just a basket case!

It depends on the AD. Some have WIS employees that know as much as we do. Others have nice ladies that apart from reading the dial know little about watch collecting. If you wear your watch under the cuff and don't go flashing it around, it will be more believable too. No, selling it for second hand, I think not: they will open it and there the story ends (even if they can't tell with a loupe looking at the dial) Since you mentioned panerai, in some of the more classic watch shops, this is a brand they might not be carrying, but for sure they heard the whole trend and sales figures. Hence the comment of your watchmaker. It was either that, or he was very smart not to call out a potential client.

This happens sometime due to a fall or a bump. Good job on your part. No need to go to a watchsmith for such a minor problem. Sometimes you can snap it back with a smack, but it can do damage as well as good. Next solution (what you apparently did) open the back, and untangle it. Since you seem inclined to DIY () i am reposting the ETA link with the part numbers in your caliber. Even if the hairspring was damaged, you can source a #721 from various suppliers and do the replacement yourself.

It is a very nice watch, wear it in good health. Yes, after market lume jobs are offered by a few people in this forum. Some of them are really busy and over booked. And make sure you use the services of one who is in the same continent/country as you are living in. It will save time, money, and customs risk.

Welcome Fred. Nice choice there. If you are hanging around gen's then it will be fun to show them one of the good comex you will find around this place. The holy grail for most of them Only to see a replica of it, might bring tears to their eyes Better be open that this is a rep, because they will be able to tell, but it will be fun for all of you. Spend some time reading and looking at pictures in our community, and try not to go on a shopping spree. Look at the great guides that you will find in the signatures of our top posters. We are lucky to have their contribution.. And stay away from Panerai's for you WILL buy more than one in the end and your submariner will start looking too small to be a gent's watch.

Here is a link to an auction. It has some nice profile shots to get an idea of the differences. The lugs are curvier and both bezels (front & back) are thicker. http://cgi.ebay.com/IWC-5442-03-PORTUGUESE...9QQcmdZViewItem http://img236.imageshack.us/my.php?image=iw10274dr1.jpg I love mine, and wish I could find a nice AR sapphire for it. Keep it polished and get a nice strap for it.

You bought this watch as a parts donor. Right? Don't go soft man. Slice it open, take out the caliber and then see if you can use the remaining parts for anything else. Maybe you will patch a cheaper caliber back in and revive it, even if it limps (frozen 6). Let the donor find its course and focus on your project. Go on with your initial plan, or you might end up getting a next donor and not having the guts to slice that too PS: You are not a surgeon by any chance, are you? PS2: It IS a very nice watch.

Ugly.. :yuk: Looks like you can destroy a couple of nice sweaters with all this things sticking out of the case. Be careful of your girlfriend's hair too. Since you were after "disgusting and horrific" looks, I think you hit the nail on the head. PS: It would be interesting to find out what caliber it uses. It could be used in the making of a Bell&Ross BR01-96 big date..

Very nice friend. What are the two crowns for? Is the second a helium escape or something? -answer to myself after a bit of google. Yes it is a helium escape valve! Kaloforeto patrida

On the other hand, the panerai loos really unmarked. Nice one too. No recessed pin, good AR..

I am sure it is a photoshoped submariner. It will not be long till a rolex agent orders one, and upon receipt of the non-photoshoped version busts the guy.

Apprentices asking for opinions and tips but saving 30$!

I remember people arriving at the first rwg from trc. "this is where you are hiding" was their entrance line. They were happy to see the new content, felt at home with the old faces around. So, they settled in. Then senior rwg went belly up for a while. In came rwgcc and people moved over here. Then it was the dark side going parallel ways. Double posting some times, but the different forum cultures keeps both boards busy and running. Now, go back and check the old fora and see what they are missing.. People. It feels like a ghost town. I'd hate to see this happen to rwgcc. The admin has managed to keep this tight and running. If he needed any extra help, he would have come out and said it. It is not always money that can help. Need server space? Bandwidth? Financial advising? If the contributions of the vip members are not enough, then pin it to the general discussions. If the vip members feel like someone is eating the food they bring to the fridge, then tell us so. If non paying members are not welcome anymore then tell us so. Not veiled. Straight up. Bring it to the administrator and demand we are driven out. It is his call and we will all have to respect it. Who's in? PS: There is no need for personal attacks or bitterness. We all mean well for this community, we just have different opinions. Let's keep it a clean fight. -

Stephane I understand that you mean well, and that you are not making it for your or anybody's profit. But.. Some people contribute with work(admins-mods), others with money, other people contribute with opinions and reviews, and others (majority) contribute by reading the forum, thus creating the critical mass that maintains our community running. Or with a combination of all the above. Still, all are needed in our current orchestration. If what you said in the quote was the Admin's opinion, then some people will pay and stay, but others might just chose to leave regardless of the trial period duration. This has NOTHING to do with money (at least to some of us). What do you think will happen if Linux went to a subscription-base? What would the contributors feel like? This is a community, based on roles, and if we were going through a critical phase, then more people than you think will step up and contribute. If the admin's decide to ring the alarm, you might be surprised. The model is currently working, so, I see no reason to change something. I put my trust in the admins, and if they need something, they just have to come out and say it. On the other hand, the VIP section and the 'privileges' that come out of it, as it currently operates, is providing a level of protection and there is no need for it to change. We both understand why we don't want any search engine or nosy guy have access to PP, emails, sites etc of our collectors. Oldest clocks are the sundials http://www.love-watches.com/Sundial.htm Oldest chronometer is the hour glass (fluid or sand based) http://www.love-watches.com/Hourglass.htm " How old is the sand-glass? We do not know definitely, but it is said to have been invented at Alexandria about the middle of the third century B. C. That it was known in ancient Athens is certain, for a Greek bas-relief at the Mattei Palace in Rome, representing a marriage, shows Morpheus, the god of dreams, holding an hour-glass. The Athenians used to carry these timepieces as we do our watches' !!cool!! It was used for timing the defense speaches in the ancient greek courts among other things. Oldest complication watch is the antikythira mechanism found in a ship wreck near the coast of a greek island. http://horology.org/htu-anti.html All of these are dated B.C.
