  1. Detail is a bit poor, but I will stick my neck out and say the one on the left is gen and the one on the right is a rep.
  2. You can also buy an MBW1665 case(not advertised) from eurotimez which comes with, crystal, bezel and insert, crown and movement holder for eta all for about $180. Your existing dial doesn’t look to bad so you could go down this route using your existing dial and movement. If the dial won’t fit eurotimez sells replacements for $65.
  3. The lume does light up dimly and is fairly similar in brightness to the old gens I have with tritium dials. If you want to tell the time at night you will need to have it relumed or buy a seiko. In day light a relume will look better but at night or when you walk from the sunshine into a dark room it’s a bit of a give away.
  4. Chris’s MBW 5512 is also quite nice.
  5. Nice Pics Number one is much better than two but even if you spend time and money on it will never be great, for instance the lug holes are to close to the end of the lugs. As everyone else has said buy a noob. Keep these for beaters. I think we all have a couple of pre RWG reps that we used to think were great.
  6. Looks like the date wheel from a manual wind rolex calibre 1215 as used in the 6694 etc. I have always wondered if one of these date wheels would but never been able to find one.
  7. Thanks, how did the rotor noise compare with the ETA.
  8. I am trying to get some more information about the A.Schild movement AS 2063 as a replacement for a ETA 2836 in an MBW 1665. The reason being the date wheel appears to rotate in the same direction as a 1575, and it appears to have a plain bearing on the rotor weight which would make it a lot quieter than the ETA also the bpm is a lot closer to the 1575 original. This is the info I have A.Schild movement AS 2063 produced between 1969 and 1978 self winding, hand winding is possible center-seconds date-function with quick-set 21.600 a/h 45 hrs power reserve 11.5 lignes/25,6 mm 5,2 mm high 17/21/25 jewels, depending on version white date wheel incabloc shock protection But need to know what diameter hands the movement takes, stem height and winding stem thread. Anyone got the above information or know where I can find it or even if this has been done before.
  9. Things are definitely slipping here, 5 sensible replies to a ‘who’s got the best sub’ first post.
  10. I have reps and gens. I have gen seadweller and an oysterdate, and while I can afford to buy them I can’t afford to trash them. My rep is a modified mbw 5512 which I wear most of the day and takes all the abuse, the gens tend to get worn in the evening . The rep is reasonably cheep but very realistic as it only has labour and a few gen parts and I have had the satisfaction of building it myself. The gens are still mint and worth nearly double what I paid for the 2 years ago. A rep will always be a rep.
  11. Those prices make me sick, but probaly not as sick as ponycar
  12. I agree with Freddy. You will always know its a rep. If all you want to do is fool every one you meet go down the MBW with ETA route. You could buy a Nodate gen sub for not a lot more than the phong with gen movement cost. The gen will appreciate and you will know its real.
  13. The widely held view (me included) seems to be that the standard unmodified MBW 1665 CG’s are too wide. This gen (below) has just come up for sale on TZ UK and the CG’s look very similar to the standard MBW guards from memory. All the photos I have of my 1665’s are with moded guards does anyone have a picture of the standard un modified CG’s from a similar angle for comparison. Cheers
  14. While it would be nice if it had the original dial, I don’t think it will have much of an effect on the value. I know I would be well pleased to own it and would not worry about the dial, unfortunately it will be brought and put in a safe somewhere never to see the light of day again.
  15. Steve McQueen's 5512 , don't get to excited about the low estimate though it will no doubt go for a lot more. http://www.antiquorum.com/eng/press/2009/2...y09auction.html
  16. Here is another option, Chris has started selling old MBW 5513 cases on their own for $165 this and a $65 dial and you have all the usable MBW parts. http://www.eurotimez88.com/product_info.ph...9e11b5ff73ded2f
  17. When I was struggling to line up my date wheel overlay I made one of these gauges to line it up.
  18. This shows the standard MBW insert with an Ofrie pearl. While it wont stand a direct side by side comparison with a gen. I would struggle justifying the cost of a gen for the small improvement.
  19. If you weren’t aware already Gary Clark finaly has his new T19 available . I have ordered one and will post pics when it arrives. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Tropic-19-Vintage-st...bayphotohosting
  20. Here's the link, The forum it's on is generally quite respectable. http://www.tz-uk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=73690
  21. Is this a gen explorer. It is being sold as a P series year 2000 without papers. My concerns are that It clearly has the Rolex crown at 6 on the crystal which I don’t think even the current gens have The fit of the end links is really poor The dial is marked ‘Swiss’ indicating a Luminova dial which I don’t think were introduced until 2002-2003 rather than ‘Swiss T < 25’ Tritium dial which it should have. What do you think.
  22. I have a fully moded MBW 5512 but if I was starting again I would go another route. From your MBW 5513 which will cost you $400 you will only really use the case and bezel assembly. The movement Crystal Crown Tube Pearl are all scrap and you have to modify the lug holes, CG’s and tube hole. All this will cost you time and money for tools and if you haven’t done it before your first set of CG’s will likely turn out rubbish, I know mine did . Buy this http://www.yukiwatch.com/catalog/item/6924997/6894678.htm for $360 plus Dial Hands Crystal ETA 2846 Crown Tube Movement holder You will have a better rep for less work and about the same cost.
  23. I think the one from Silix is the only case available with the coin edge bezel. This may be what freddy is holding out for.
  24. I think this is potentially the best looking no date sub. Although a lot more money I think it’s worth it. It needs work to look really good but just changing the bezel pearl makes it look miles better. You will soon know if a better no date sub comes out because people here will be all over it.
  25. The actual CG's are not to bad they just need a bit off the inside, it's the extension between the edge of the bezel and the start of the crown pocket that lets it down. Oh and the fact that it hasn’t got any lug holes.
