  1. Would it be safe to assume that the Technician is on call for you?
  2. Go with the Yamaha, the HD crowd be damned. I ride a 1984 Yamaha xj750RL, lots of oompf without the worries of someone stealing it while I park it anywhere. Take a rider training class, best investment you can do and great experience overall.
  3. Excellent once again. The upside of these pocket watch movements is that the parts are usually far larger than what you'd be dealing with in a wristwatch. Suffice to say the last joker inside this movement should go back to working on lawnmowers.
  4. I liked the past better. However, I don't buy reps anymore so my opinion is not valuable here. I visit because of the friends I made. End of discussion.
  5. I remember the rbj69 days, talk about long winded discussions with no sentence structure, no punctuation, no spelling, no clue. And then no joe. Whatever. I have been gone for a while, I drop in once in a blue moon and check the 40-60 pages of stuff. From what I see, nothing has changed other than the players. I miss Demsey and DL Gates. If these guys were here, I'd be drinking & buying at the bar.
  6. The steam rising is from Nanuk warming up the Land Rover. Nice photo, looks like you're going to need to shovel the driveway.
  7. I visit this place for the first time in about 4 weeks, and I see the FBI thing and figure " well it wasn't about if, it was when" Hook, line & sinker !! Excellent, makes me want to visit more often. I need a drink now.
  8. I'm bidding against Nanuk as we speak!!! Next lot is C4 plastic explosives. Whoo Hoo !!!
  9. The actual reason the water beads up on the sapphire is because the sapphire crystals are processed (typically) to a higher level of smoothness - compared to mineral glass. The theory of electrons / molecular differences was just a theory, it's the level of polishing that makes all the difference. Microscopically, a mineral glass surface has deeper pits that 'tease' the surface tension of the water bead, causing it to want to spread out. Polish those micro pits out and a mineral glass will perform just like the sapphire in the test. Sapphire being so much harder than glass, it needs a completely different polishing process, the price point supports that the sapphire crystal makers will do a better job - by default. Want more proof, buy a good quality camera lens filter, place a drop of water on the surface and compare to a sapphire crystal, doubt that you could tell a difference. Why does the mineral glass camera filter perform so well? it's processed to achieve optical purity, perfect flatness, just as much attention to making as a sapphire watch crystal. I was also a early promoter of the water bead theory, but I learned more and changed my views. One point, if you want to compare, both crystals must be clean.
  10. They also serve as a general indicator of wind chill factor!
  11. My experience with my Orient watches with power reserve dials shows that you can expect a full charge in about 3 hours of normal wear. I can't comment on Kruzers method, as the dial gets hard to read if your hand moves too fast, or in my case too far away.
  12. I miss Dave. I hope he is in good health, in some good spirits, with some good company. Many happy returns. Ken
  13. What I can't fathom is how you restrain yourself to stop, take a picture, continue, stop take another picture... And then you say you'll wait to re-assemble when the parts arrive? I'd forget what went were overnight, to imagine trying to re-assemble when days have elapsed is too scary. Thanks for sharing.
  14. Sorry Rob, but the outcome was not exactly a cliffhanger for me...we've come to expect this type of thing. Now if you were to do this work with a cold & 2 sick kids...well that would be God-like. Actually the timing performance is the amazing part, quartz levels IMHO.
  15. I broke my left wrist in July, it used to be 7 3/8" now it's stuck at 7 3/4" I am 6'4" and 240-245 pounds, dress watches 39mm is okay, sport watches up to 46mm is also workable.
  16. Looks okay, but I want to see how you put the corks in yo' moonshine bootles.
  17. I've heard some bad comments about customer service from this guy, he apparently doesn't exactly operate the business in a normal way. The case & assembly is done in Hong Kong from what I've heard.
  18. Monsters are about the best diver / beater that any WIS could have in their collection, regardless of price. Nato looks good, thanks for sharing.
  19. I miss this place sometimes, so much to learn about. It's only -7 c for us here, pretty balmy by comparison to Nanuk's domain.
  20. It was cold medicine, and grape flavour at that, saltine cracker chaser. When I read it now, well it makes me laugh enough to get a coughing fit going. Those hurt. me bad.
  21. Orange is the new grey. Wear it well. I have had my OM for about 2 years, it attracts the most attention of any of my watches, even my wife encouraged the Orange because it wasn't 'dark dial' like all the rest. Classic, robust, underpriced, bracelet ne plus ultra.
  22. Bob is related to TTK Neil, as if that will be a shocker to anyone here ! Okay, I made that up, but it seemed funny in my head. Actually, I have had good experiences with Ofrei, but I don't e-mail them with any hope they'll reply after what Rob told me about Bob. Okay that also sounds funny ..Rob & Bob, see Rob deck Bob, see Bob bleed all over the Mobius oil... News at 11.
  23. The first generation co-axials had problems, perhaps this one is from that batch? The Zigmeister is tops, but if Omega can confirm the problem should have been fixed under warranty, then the repair should be free me thinks?
  24. Nice of you to share, until you get that workbench, try raising the legs on the bench with some blocks. Actually, if you placed a old Paneri case under each leg, you'd be almost there for the correct working height. Don't thank me Rob, I'm always thinking of creative use for them Paneri's.
  25. Wow, those floor boards look so much better !! who'd a thought !! okay, that was stupid. I never liked Paneri's anyway, so the fact you was doing some damage got me interested enough to have a peek. I'll go sit in the corner now. Me bad.
