  1. Can you confirm if this is two different colors of ceramic, or just one color with paint on the other half?
  2. +1,000,000 on QUARTZ... If you get an automatic (or God forbid a manual wind), she'll always be complaining about how the "battery" keeps dying. Also, avoid obscure brands (yes, Hubolt or Panerai etc. are well known around here but to your mom/girlfriend/wife they might as well be a Casio). Go with a "fashion" brand: LV, Chanel, Gucci, and the like, as most women know such brands.
  3. From the man himself, earlier tonight: "I have another 16610 sub with gen construction coming to replace my wm9 16610 sub offering. Pls come back in 2 months. bk"
  4. I've heard rumblings of a new super rep sub on par (or better) than the wm9 but way cheaper... but so far just that, lots of speculation. Can anyone point to where BK or anyone else explicitly talks about this watch coming?
  5. I suspect them to go the route of Apple. Premium stores that offer a great experience, but with the goods till available at select other locations. You don't have to buy a Mac at your local Apple Store (and could get a better deal elsewhere), but if you want well-trained staff and a full range of products/services, it's the best. I could see the "Rolex Store" having the same appeal to fans, maybe even being a spot they hung out. They could carry way more models, even restored vintage, and do more in-house service.
  6. I did, and following the ramp-up in preorders I'd guess a number of forum members as well. Went with the upscale model myself.
  7. I'e seen various straps on the forums, but everything (to my eye) has so far looked cheap. These suckers look top quality, and handsome enough to actually wear as a watch instead of just a novelty. I preordered (pledged) on Kickstarter and was thinking if others were interested they could do so as well. You don't get charged unless enough others do and this goes to production... unlike some OTHER preorders (looking at wm9).
  8. I think Cats might be incorrect, if I can respectfully disagree. The noobfactory did indeed make a GMT, which was widely held to be the best available at the time. I almost bought one myself from BK, regret not doing so (as they're no longer in production). The pics look good to me, especially the rehaut which isn't wokky like what's available today. I'd just worry that these are old shots of a noob GMT, but what would be delivered wouldn't match up. I've heard people searching high and low for these, so I doubt any dealers still have stock.
  9. I'm only speaking for myself, but fake seems to imply low quality... a poor imitation. Obviously not real. Whereas replica implies some level of craftsmanship, some effort to duplicate (or create a REPLICA of) a watch as closely as possible. To me it's the difference between a crappy "Canal St" fake and the current crop of super replicas.
  10. so gorgeous, really a great build
  11. Don't steal software, yada yada yada... [thepiratebay.org is your friend]
  12. Don't listen to anyone here, SELL this sucker! (... to me, for $1,000)
  13. My current car is the 10th I've owned, and the last I'll buy outright for a while. I'm 2 years into the 5 year repayment and way under water, so when I go to sell (even though like you I baby my cars) in another 6 months or whenever... yeah I don't keep them long either... I'll have to come up with $4-5,000 out of pocket. Been in the same spot many times, and each time I think "for the same money I could have leased a nicer/newer car, then just turned it in and walked away." Compounded on top of that is when you trade in a lease but have kept it in great shape, often you can use the buy out option for hypothetically $15k and turn around and sell your just-off-lease car for $17-20k. In the scenario you described, you're paying more per month to buy, and because of the shape of a depreciation curve you'll owe money when you get rid of it in 3 years. More up front and in the hole later? This one is a no brainer, go for the lease!
  14. what's the cost, if you don't mind me asking, for something like that? I have a very similar issue with my departed fathers old gold-tone Seiko. New crystal and stripped/plated would = a sharp piece though!
  15. I must be hard on my watches, this looks like a year or two worth of aging, not 30!
