  1. Sorry to necropost here...but since the cartels (trusty & pt) are offering their 1680s this year, with 2846 movement...what is the current experience with the crowns/case tubes in these new 1680 versions? Also, is wholesale still making a decent case tube? what about yuki or clark? And how come I never see a 7mm case tube tool listed anywhere....or is the 6mm case tube tool used for the 703 case tube as well? thanks for the input in advance
  2. I don't have much tenure on this forum....maybe some of the more senior members can create a poll thread and we present it to FGD for his consideration. FGD proper straight and wide 29/63/23 hands for 2893 movement....They will sell like HOTCAKES! I have at least 3x 2893 movements that need proper hands....
  3. I thought for a moment there Fxr had a stash of proper 63 hands...and sure, EL 63/29 hands would nice...unfortunately DSN seems to have lost the recipe to make them straight and wide........but that's why we may have to make a poll and present it to FGD...if demand is there, maybe it will motivate him to make some hands...I'm sure many members on 2-3 forums will be interested Look what member motivation did for Jakob and casebacks over at RG....
  4. Nah...already tried that avenue...DSN's recent 29 & 63 hands are cr@p....FGD needs to take up the task
  5. Do you also have the 63C hand set that fits the 2893 movement?
  6. JW Green Label is always a good general scotch....definitely, Blue Label sitting in drawer cabinet for special occasions
  7. I have bottle of Macallan Cask Strength....it makes ice cubes scream...and will put some hair on your chest...or take it off....I also have a Glenlivet 16yr Nadurra...real nice
  8. yep....Honpo...EL had higher S/N 300/500 and 500/500
  9. repeated use of springbars will strip out the threads....so I would not use them for convenience if your lugs screws are still good
  10. would love to see a tutorial on this project...any chances?
  11. sorry for being a skeptic...until someone knowledgeable on this board has one in hand and can test it, and it can be easily sourced for a reasonable price...it still remains...dealers are in business of selling and telling the buyer what they want to hear......from my rookie days, I have a pair of 212's with mineral glass to prove it, although the dealer swore on his mother that it was sapphire.
  12. for a minute there I thought it was a hublot?
  13. for these CG always err on the side of the shallow dish
  14. you probably have a long wait for an EL 29 to come up, Kbiz is not selling his, neither is Oncyte and I'm having a 2893-A put in mine...however, DSN does have the PAM29 hand set to fit the 2893 movement...you can't use the standard REP 29 hands on the 2893....at least this is what I have read from those that have done the conversion...maybe Kbiz can confirm/deny?
  15. what about this handset?
  16. Wow...where have you guys been living? In a cave? Unless you guys are in your 20's
  17. so much for those dealers that try to pass off the "synthetic sapphire"...hopefully soon there will be a remedy for us...and also one that does not explode.
  18. what do you mean by "trimming" the base plate?...turning it on a lathe?...or, filing the edge down by hand? any photos of it and the caseback open? thanks
  19. It takes some time being around both types of crystals to be able to identify them without a tester...most folks may say that if you "flick" the crystal with your finger nail, the sapphire will make a dull "thud" sound and the mineral will make a higher pitched "click" sound"...also, the sapphire crystal feels "denser" when you tap it....other say that a well cleaned sapphire crystal will "round bead" water drops, whereas a mineral crystal will "pool" and "dribble" the droplets. Hopefully others will chime in...or do a search...I am sure this topic has been discussed ad nauseum?
  20. I still don't get it reading many posts on this topic over the past months...recently I have seen "synthetic sapphire" used by several dealers...I say that is just marketing set up to confuse buyers!...I don't care the about the MOH hardness or whether the crystals are arranged in a Tetrahedral or an Octahedral configuration...just stick to the terms that have been always used: MINERAL & SAPPHIRE Years ago when I would buy watches from EL...there was "MINERAL" and "SAPPHIRE"...everyone knew, mineral scratched easily and sapphire did not...forget all the science hype and mumbo jumbo and sandwiched crystals. dealers should stick with SAPPHIRE & MINERAL...that's it...forget the fancy "synthetic sapphire" political correctness......we all know a watch crystal will not be made out of "pure" sapphire...just like a gold used in watches is not pure gold as Nakor put's it..."synthetic sapphire" is just another word for "mineral glass" If dealers want to prevent buyer's brains from exploding...please leave MINERAL and SAPPHIRE designations alone...and dump that garbage marketing "synthetic sapphire" description I would recommend any buyer to avoid buying any of these watches if the crystal is 'mineral' or says 'synthetic sapphire' (unless we are talking vintage of course)...of course you have the exceptions in the 212 or 253...if you really like the watch, you will have to get it how it comes.

  22. couple photos of a TOG...sorry for the bad photos...
  23. I have a GEN and one of the main tells is the date window...the GEN's date window is "polished tube" with the date sunken below the dial surface by a few mm....the REP seems to have the date just right below the surface of the dial. The rest of the REP looks pretty decent. the GEN Blue Surf has the display caseback showing the complete blue anodized 2892 movement...the Rep, I believe, has a seagull movement...which is more of a tell
  24. heck...just seen this thread...I have (2) old 212's...if the price is right, put me down for 2
