  1. Thank you very much for your thoughts on this ubi! I am afraid you are probably right it would be a highly difficult task to make big bucks making fantasy Rolexes. Still, the US Marines is a highly valuable watch regardless of its authenticity...
  2. Good stuff. I agree that rarity is no guarantee for a high value. I believe the most valuable commodity around is ideas. If a fantasy Rolex was able to tap into the dreams of clearly defined special-interest consumers with a strong collector-culture, I believe a watch made from aftermarket and custom parts, perhaps a gen movement, would easily sell for more than gens.
  3. Super big thanks for your efforts responding on this, guys! One more question- if an artist was to create a "non-rolex-made" Rolex as a work of art, for example the Rolex US Marines, and openly said it wasn´t genuine...would it be legal? I´m not talking about a fake 6542 here, but an oddity, something unique, like the US Marines model. It seems that artists´copyright infringement is generally accepted if only one piece is produced, and the item is sold as a work of art? For example, modern artists very often use copyrighted stuff in their art. Jeff Koons made - and sold - Pink Panther sculptures, and allegedly lost a lawsuit case against the panther people because MORE THAN ONE was made. See where I´m going with this jmb? MG
  4. Hi, most of us vaguely know the story of the ROLEX US MARINES, which apparently sold for usd 25,000 at an auction. LINK Do we KNOW wether it is actually fake or not? Has anyone heard wether the buyer knows? Something makes me believe that its a highly valuable piece even if its fake. ...Can a fake (but unique) Rolex actually fetch thousands of dollars - if the story is good enough and the watch well executed? Thoughts? Cheers, MG
  5. There exists a cheap rep of this, havent seen it on josh/andrews sites though. Watcheden has it I believe. Biggest flaw; its got "pushers" on the case to control the digital functions (rather than crown-control as per gen). The kind of pushers you got to push a pencil or pin into. Astonishingly impractical!!! What a great watch the gen is. In fact, its one of the most practical watches I have seen. Love the "countdown" rather than "elapsed time" bezel - very practical, and strangely, rarely seen. If any of you gen owners would care to comment on the practicality of crown-control, well: Cheers from warm, merry and sunny Oslo MG
  6. Good idea! Good luck. I ordered some water slide decal sheets, thought I´d try to brew my own dial. Hopefully, an aged tritium (re)lume job will lend authenticity to it. I´ve shaven my cgs. Result: Drilled the lugholes. Result: Painted some hands. Result: Drawing upon this experience, I have a rough idea of how the dial might turn out Still, a voice in my head keeps saying MG
  7. I like it! Thanks for sharing this, MG
  8. I´ll be using a Brevet for my 6542 project myself, the brevet crown kind of makes this small watch more - how do you say - protruding? Fantasy or not, the most important factor IMO is that what is made is the way the watch should´ve been made in the first place! Will wait a round or two to improve skills first... Indeed! Working on my Space-Dweller fantasy I debuted cg-shaving the other day, and wiped the tube clean off, now what´s left of it is stuck inside the case. What a good excuse take out the drill and make room for a maxi crown MG
  9. I haven´t seen it in the flesh, its the one he uses on his 6154. Hope this is correct for your use, if not I apologize... DSN Brevet Ordering one for myself for my SPACE-DWELLER II project!!!!!!! MG BTW AERO: What are you making? A Pan-Am w/fantasy crown or a bond sub? Or both?
  10. A watch collection without a 6542 is like a sex life an never gettin blown I am very sorry about this vulgar comment but as it happens it is my honest opinion Great project indeed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One day...... Looking forward to the rest of this story... MG
  11. Davidsens Brevet Crowns are USD 30. Maybe they'd do just as well? I wouldn't know, but I do know the price difference is huge. MG
  12. Amazing work! I wonder whats next? THIS? MG
  13. All, Has any of us ever bead-blasted a Rolex Sports? Considering this for a Rolex "fantasy" project ("fantasy" should be replaced with "should exist", mind) and would love to see. If you have any pics af a blasted Lex, please share Cheers from sunny Oslo! MG
  14. Thanks, what do you assert the watcheden bond (see link in 1st post) to be? Looks bigger but I suspect its my wishful thinking which says "8 mm".. MG
  15. Thanks, asked silix but he hasn
  16. Hi, anybody care to answering this? Cheers, MG
  17. Don´t know wether this would be good enough, bot how about a water-slide decal on a white painted dial with vintage lume on on top? MG Edit: Trivia: According to Rolex lore, white the dial was supposedly for pan am execs, the black for pilots
  18. BTW - do we know the size of this crown? Thanks. Nice thread. MG
  19. Hi freddy. Is that gmt hand made using (amongst other things) the tip of the hour hand??? (I hope so) Cheers, MG
  20. Me too.... EDIT: Wonder if its possible for a lume-master to duplicate the raised, crisp numbers/indexes used on the bakelite bezel in order to mould a homemade bezel using ICE Resin. One advantage would be that one could mimick the "bleeding" of the markings. Thought I´d ask everestwatchworks about this. Another advantage of a homegrown bezel - one could add a more organic patina into the resin itself as per gen vintage. I fear, however, that a DIY approach to the bezel markings might never look machine made? Found this on the bay: http://www.iceresin.com/ Way too advanced for me though, although I ordered some resin after a couple of drinks the other day
  21. I suggest you build a 6542. Because it is a totally unique watch with tons and tons of soul and history. But most of all, because I
