  1. Thanks for posting Jkay, but what I'd really like to see is your favorite, and in that I mean the one watch that you own that has your heart?
  2. Been around the gen forums for awhile, and before that here, and RWI, and TRC, and RWG1... and even before that Battery Pk, and 34th (lol, never canal)... I thought about my favorite times, and about what pieces stuck in my head the most, and which one was my favorite. I suppose I'm looking at things a lot differently than many do, since I was not brought up around good watches. The first "rolex" I ever got to look at up close was from a briefcase in front of 34th st. Which ultimately led me of course to RWG1 and TRC, then RWI, then here, and finally the gen forums.. During the last few years I had the luck to meet one of the most talented watchmakers I've ever met, and at that same time I was offered to hold in my hand the first good gen vintage I ever saw (it was a 5508 rolex). I was still new at the game then, and didn't take the opportunity to make an offer and buy it on the spot (trust me, I'm still kicking myself for not doing that). Anyway, after owning a few nice gens, I got to thinking about which one piece is my very favorite? I thought about this for a while, and then I thought about what makes a "thing" valuable to anyone??? Is it the sheer monetary value of it? Or perhaps sentimental value is worth significantly more? After some thought, I'm posting a picture of a watch that certainly ranks at the top of my favorites, my deco bezel pam. I'd love to see other members favorites, from the rare genuine family heirlooms to a home built rep that they put their heart into. Or, maybe a watch that just cost the most. Whichever is the best and favorite that you currently own, I'd love to see it
  3. FYI: For anyone who may be interested, I have another one of those bracelets I'll be putting up for sale very soon. Alligoat, thanks for posting up pics of the real thing. In fact, I have a gen meters first dial up for sale now in case someone wanted to buy both and build the ultimate "water polo" rep
  4. Great combination, I can see why you want to keep it now. I think you definitely need to give it some "break in time" before you decide to sell and move on to something bigger
  5. What's to question? You already know that the watch isn't complete without the correct date coded bracelet. A matching strap is just an accessory for when you get bored
  6. Sold for a great price. Match that up to your four liner and you're all set PS: to put things into relative price perspective, let's say you had this watch and needed a bracelet for it. So, how much would a ultra rare and correct bracelet be worth to you then, and would less than 4 grand more even make a difference?
  7. Yes, that is a 17 jewel handwind 1225, typically installed into precisions
  8. By far the best 1680 on the forum
  9. Thanks for posting up Frank. It seems so long ago that Kenzo's watches were around. I wonder what ever happened to all his watches? I guess probably either parted out for better reps, or became a part of someone's collection somewhere. By-Tor did an interesting review of a watchmaster here.
  10. Is that it? No other Watchmasters left among our members?
  11. If you can't find it, you can make one out of music wire. Keep us posted, if you can't find it I'll take a few pics of the spring from my WM9 so you can make one. PS: If you want one of the ultimate visual mods for your LV, I'm selling a gen LV insert that has the correct "4" and superluminova pearl for your LV . Cheers, JJ
  12. Both very nice pieces for sure, and the 6466 is a great choice for your daughter. I always felt the same way about the AK, until I saw the gilt chocolate dialed piece I just picked up. If I hold it in the sunlight, it definitely "talks" to me. Have you checked out any 6424's? Nice thin cased 36mm manual winds.
  13. It should still turn even without the spring, so most likely something is not seating properly
  14. Thanks guys, it certainly is a terrific watch, and a great piece as a daily wearer. I'll have to take some more pics of it; maybe even a few of the 1570 too. While we're on that subject, here's a pic of my very first 1570 powered franken. it was nice, although the white dialed piece was definitely a big improvement:
  15. Very clean Airking-Date omegaunit, it looks to be 100% original, congrats
  16. I would definitely recommend finding a gen case, gen dial, gen crystal, etc... IMO, you might as well build the real thing
  17. alligoat, your Airking is beautiful! IMO, these are definitely worthwhile additions to any serious collector, plus they make great daily watches! Is yours a gloss white dial with blued second hand? Very nice indeed!
  18. This one set me back just about a grand.
  19. Ok, I finally folded and bought an Airking. Certainly one of the greatly admired rolexes, I had kept my eye on these for years, yet never found one that had the special something that really caught my eye, until now! An early (87XXXX) '62 two-color gilt gloss dial, this 5500 runs with a 1530 under the hood. Honestly, I never thought I'd find an Airking that did it for me, but once I saw this one I couldn't help myself and had to have it. I took a few quick snapshots, hope everyone enjoys: Oops, forgot to mention it has a gorgeous color-change black dial: ...and a dome plexi that is to die for: Not a bad dial for a nearly fifty year old watch! Here's a close-up of the gold and silver gilt font: Here's a couple more pics. I'll get it serviced next week and she'll be all set as a daily wearer
  20. I'm looking forward to seeing them kasi. Until then, safe travels! PS: love your avatar, Bada Bings is only a few miles from me, and the ice cream shop is just around the block
  21. I don't think it's the same guy, "George" from back in the day was one of the select few able to actually obtain an old "MBW", unless of course, you were able to obtain one directly from Maria
  22. Thanks guys! This certainly is an old one, built way before the "yuki" (or better cases ) became available. It started with an MBW case I had bought from George; then I sent it off to Palpatine so he could work his magic, which he did, and I ended up with a terrific white 1680 with a 2836-2, a beautifully aged dial and hands, gen cyclop, cg's done, lugs drilled, etc. Fast forward another year or so, and I had gotten the itch to improve it even more. There wasn't much talk of "super frankens" back then, most guys would source a 2846 if they could and then go from there. So, what was done to this piece was on the forefront of "repdom"! lol I was able to source a dial over coffee in NYC (a mk1 white no less!). The movement came after another 100 mile drive from another dealer, the hands from across the pond, and the date wheel, ah!!! that was a find! An early silver date wheel which has more of a flat appearance to it, before the bright "brushed" look datewheels were available. The Zigmiester put it all together, modding the case appropriately so the 1570 fit into it. Now, all I do is set the date, hold it in my hands and give it a little turn, and it begins to run again until long after I put it away at the end of the day.
