  1. Sold off some of my stuff lately, but I don't ever think I could let this one go. My very first "good" franken, with a host of gen parts that I searched and traveled all over for. It was then built including complete movement service by my good friend RG. It still runs like a champ, and I'll bet it probably will for the next 30 or 40 years. I just took some fresh pics, and thought I'd share, hope you enjoy:
  2. I only have this one, but I've had it for years now and don't think I could ever let it go.. afterall, it is a WatchMaster.
  3. It's an interesting read, but IMO more important vintage info is available for free online. JJ
  4. Interesting foray into the human psyche here. I find the whole "status symbol" idea the most intriguing, yet sadly pathetic. I think the real question is, who are the real elitist? ...us??? ...or them???
  5. Looks like a high dome to me, although high probability of it being a replica part if not in original packaging
  6. Lots of fun, that stuff! I used to run at Bridgehampton, but that was a long time ago. I always used to lift at the bridge because of the upcoming turn 1 (which was negative camber and out of the line of sight). All you could see was the big sand dune up ahead that you'd run into if you kept going straight! I ran with EMRA for a long time, and I can recall an old timer from the club telling me that he used to watch Gurney run a formula car at the track back in the day, and that he never lifted! I had lots of FTD's and did very well for a long time in ST-2. I was running a very modded TT RX-7 (lol, the clown-shoe guys weren't happy!) I still swear if I ever get back into it I'd buy a formula ford Good luck, and remember, two feet in, and rubber side down!
  7. None of the 1665's or 1680's came with white date wheels. All white ones are service replacements. In fact, original equipment silver date wheels were carried over into the 16800 and 16660 production. Going a step further, before replacement "white" datewheels were produced, the "brushed" silver datewheels were common replacement parts. FYI, most original (plastic sub/seadweller) silver datewheels have a plain silver appearance without the bright brushed look.
  8. One good thing about the mechanical watches vs quartz: when I see that really bright light in the east, the emp will knock out all the quartz watches but I will still be able to tell what time it is!
  9. Hmm... some interesting thoughts here. I have a cellar full of tube stuff, maybe I should forget about the watches and start selling the old tubes! Here's another idea regarding the vintage rolex market: The people that value these watches are probably middle aged and older. As they eventually die off, will anyone care about the vintage sports? Didn't the bubblebacks already transition into this phase? As far as tulips go, I know who has them all, those little bastard squirrels lifted them all and are waiting for the next market peak!
  10. A little off topic here, but what are you running in your time trials?
  11. Very tastefully done, congrats I especially like the gilt dial and dome plexi
  12. Nice brevet Nanuq. Would you mind if I asked how much you paid for it?
  13. Whatever you do, don't sell it to Halo
  14. FYI: This banned member also recently attempted to buy one of my frankens from me. I can just imagine where that would have ended up
  15. Great looking watch T! Wear it well
  16. Regardless, I still loved his rep creations. It would be nice to see some pics of his watches if any are still around...
  17. I still stop in to look and read, but for the most part I've gotten bored and moved on. I still have most of my frankens, yet can't bring myself to selling them off; however, for the most part I know I could never wear them again. Other than that, I've been sticking around to sell off my 4 years worth of collecting parts
  18. very very nice.... big eye sigma?
  19. Haven't seen any PVD's, but I've seen a caramel dialed 5512, a square cg 5512, a Tiffany dialed "big eye" daytona, a chocolate chapter ring gilt 1675, and a color changed sub dials 6265. oh.. almost forgot, I saw a red sub and a beat up matte 5513 a couple years ago. PS... completely forgot one of my favorites: I saw a very special 5508 in the wild, and then witnessed the same watch get auctioned off at Christies
  20. Appears to be the third version of the gen 6265 bezel PS, on second thought, I would proceed with caution if I were you. The font looks a little light compared to the book, and I just checked a picture I took of a late model gen 6265 I owned (below), and (IMO) the font looks a little light compared to that too. I took a look at the auction, and would caution you in purchasing anything gen from that area of the world unless you personally know the dealer. PPS: You may want to compare the "75" in the ebay ad to the picture of my gen. Note the difference in the distance of the 5 and the hash mark above it.

    HE Valve

Pushing in doesn't make sense as the water pressure would push the valve open and flood the watch. HEV's are designed to let expanding gases escape from inside the watch, thus, it would be only logical to design a valve that opened outward. (at least this is how the vintage valves worked) Cheers, JJ
