  1. "Rolex uses 904L steel for all it's steel watch cases..." source Rolex has been using primarily 904L on all of their steel watch cases for a long time. The 168000 was the first in the late 80's and slowly thereafter the steel models were all made from 904L. (EDIT: I see now you said bracelets specifically )
  2. A brand new sub is just an AD away... the opportunity to buy a great (sounding) shape vintage sub doesn't happen every day!
  3. Either way it's going to be expensive- but I would go with the recommendation on the NDT case and sourcing the rest yourself piece by piece. MBW's are nice "out of the box" reps, or great platforms for modding, and for a very long time they were the only people sourcing viable looking vintage reps. But truly with that route you would have more spare parts and be into it for a wee bit more than just the case anyhow. You can find good looking inserts and pearls on eBay. Good luck- my favorite Rolex of all time!
  4. It's a limited edition watch. made for the Solar Impulse Project- flying around the world with a solar powered plane. It has double AR, 44.25mm like I said before, comes in Ti/Ti or Ti rubber. May just be a rumor at this stage but I heard it also makes chicks want you more. It's also available on rubber which is pretty badass to me. I am NOT a fan of Ti watches but if they make a good one of these I am buying! Here's a link to some real photos of it: http://omega.watchprosite.com/?show=nblog....93726&fi=17
  5. P serial is too early for the crown, which is odd because the watch looks good otherwise... They started the crown etching in 2002.
  6. I was going to say press harder, until I saw the caseback off. If you're really pressing that thing till it seems like it won't give anymore (they take some force) then it's probably in need of a repair
  7. Now we know what Richard Lawton's collection looks like (Or it is very close to this...seriously!)
  8. Solar Impulse or go home!! 44.25mm and gorgeous!
  9. wow http://www.asian7750.com/cn/product_show.a..._id=454&ti=
  10. Top chap to give a membership to indeed, always enjoyed your contributions.
  11. wow kasi, demsey... blast from the past EL was the man... I bought a few watches from him many moons ago... and like Slick said one of them my payment wasn't even sent before I got my tracking number... didn't even ask for that- I asked him for the total on a TW Best Sub (he was famous for these) and I said I'd take it, signed off for the day... came back to a tracking number! Top shelf dealer and guy, with his Elvis motorcycle helmet, 'Ivana Trump effect' PAM AR coating (this was high tech in 2003!) and was definitely the dealer I had the most fun buying from... even if his prices were higher than the rest
  12. That is one of the things I look for on lughole models as one of the tells it could be real It's authentic.
  13. does it seem fake to you?
  14. I got mine too, cool watch! Mine has a slightly different dial, and the serial is 737712. I would love to keep it but I also got into a car accident yesterday
  15. If you're after the best, which it definitely sounds like you are, you got it. The quality of the AP strap will be way ahead of the rep. strap and if you're already spending that much you may as well have spent the extra to get a fantastic and much more convincing strap.
  16. mug you for the cash he just gave you vs. just mugging you for the watch? doubtful... but not selling it was definitely the right thing to do.
  17. Talk to Ruby about getting bags and such- I am sure it will all be the same quality, great prices on anything you're looking for, and most importantly it will actually arrive as stated, as expected, and arrive at all. Good luck!
  18. Nice Tudors, we'll see if my order comes through as well I think the only thing original on these is the movement, possibly the tropic but everything else is very well made and not typical rep. Tudor stuff.
  19. Wow, terrible news. I have had a similar thing happen some years ago and it is truly something you can't compare to anything else. The feeling of someone else in your home, rummaging through your things just takes so much more than possessions away from you. I am glad to hear that your children are alright and they didn't do more damage to you. Hang in there, I wish you all the best.
  20. This is definitely at earliest a very late 60's Seamaster, I would say more early to mid 70's. What you paid is probably a pretty good indication of what it might be worth, as these haven't become wildly collectible within the last few years but as with most vintages I am sure has appreciated some. It's a cool case design though, these Seamasters remind me of old Rado's.
  21. The scratching you hear is what it's supposed to sound like, the clicking is normal too. The scratching is the sound of the gears winding the mainspring.
  22. There was also a very limited run of the first SMP 2531.80 with a two tone bracelet, and the back was engraved with "James Bond Choice". Never seen a rep of that though, and also sounds like a pretty lame watch.
  23. Yep, I have owned about 9 gen Seamasters and the ones over several years all turned brown. I only have 1 now, a white dial, and the lume is pretty brown and the glow kind of sucks too. Bummer!
