Can't tell about those pearls, looks like they have the metal surrounds, but maybe it would be an easy fix to put an all acrylic pearl in there.
    That 6536-1 should be relabeled a 6204.
But, heck, it's still a step in the right direction.

    Ditto.

Yeah eBay is partly to blame but RWC is the main culprit no doubt. I also blame VRF for some of the inflated vintage parts prices because it is basically just a 'gentleman's' rolex parts mart' but they will skin you alive (in a gentlemanly manner) if you do not shop around. For later stuff (3035/3135 era), eBay and VRF are close to the same looks to me. All the 'bargains' I have snagged in the past couple years came from eBay. For example, a nos complete 1570 autowind assembly for $305.00 rotor and all (saw one 'like new' on VRF for over $500), a 1530 aw bridge in fine condition for $22.50, super nice no corrosion 5500AK case for $118.00, rolex 1570 balance complete for $153.00, nos 1665 complete helium valve assembly for $48, and a few other odds and cods.

I think that is because members of the Rolex specialty sites know the value of genuine, Rolex branded parts, while many ebay members do not. At the same time, ebay sellers often part with things because they need the money (so are willing to accept less than current value), while Rolex collectors sell to thin collections or because they have duplicates (so are able to hold out for premium returns). That is why you are considerably more likely to find a Rolex bargain on ebay vs VRF.

McIntosh & B&W here. Maybe that's where all my money went :bangin:

You should have seen the look on the guys face from Sony when I asked him to shut off the Wilson Audio Watt Puppy's they were using in conjunction with their SXRD (old I know) projector demonstration. Everyone's hair was standing up from the speakers, which translated into adrenaline and hopefully projector sales... he wasn't thrilled when I asked for a silent demonstration of the projector. Cedia 2003, Vegas, I believe.

    Which Mac & B&W? I have sold/owned both.
I have heard the Puppy's twice (in unfamiliar environments), but I think you would have to be tone deaf not to appreciate the technology that went into them.
So did you buy the Sony projector?

  4. I just received a pic of the speaker. I was mistaken that it was a 5-way (I confused it with another speaker). It appears to be a 2- or 3-way, but, boy, was it sweet.
Another friend just told me the amp may have been an experimental prototype from AudioNote, which you may have heard of.

Didn't Paul Klipsch say anything over 10 watts was wasted?

Try to find a good copy of Le Quattro Stagioni  with I Musici, Vittorio Negri and Pina Carmirelli, and let that OTL breathe.

I think I've got a Phillips copy of that. I'll have to rummage around & see.
As for Klipsch's 10 watts, that sounds about right - both his comment & the waste.
Not to deviate too far off topic, I attended an audio show recently & they had a set of 5-way horns running in this 1 room that was being driven by this very high-end Japanese-made 2-watt triode amp that I had never heard of before (I used to be in the business, so that is saying something). They were driving the system from a studio master tape, so that has to be taken into account, but it was not only 1 of the most beautiful systems of the show (& there were many that could claim that title), but also 1 of the best sounding systems I have ever heard. I wish I could remember the name of the speakers. Maybe it will come to me..

Picture it... that amp, a sensitive pair of Klipsch, and some nice espresso. That's a Friday to remember.

Interestingly, the fellow that owned the company (sadly, now defunct) that made those amps made a smaller (triode) version specifically for Klipsch speakers. My speakers are not very efficient, so it cannot play loud. But, then, I am not a headbanger, so it has never been a problem.

    Oh & nice timepiece.

I even dumped my girlfriend because I wanted gen b@@bs. :-). Finally buy a bunch of gens, and now vintage. I made it!!! It's frightening how much I've enjoyed every step.

You are close, but not quite there yet. When you start factoring in how many donations of blood & semen that vintage Rolex bezel, pillar plate or clasp will cost you, then you have made it.;)

My lady friend asked that question as well. With age comes wisdom. I've learned 3 things. 1: That when a mature man exits his Mercedes SL550  wearing a 60+ year old Rolex, no one, not his doctor or lawyer or insurance agent or investment banker dares ask the question 'Is it real?'. B: That my rep 6542 and 6204 are more 'user friendly' than the gen, more accurate, and only a few people in the world, most of them here, can tell the difference. lll: I could spend the $12,000 to $100,000+ I didn't spend on a watch to buy my Mercedes SL550.

    And it works. smiley-image-26.gif

Is that your special lady friend (a la "The Big Lebowski")?;)

  9. 1 of the saddest losses for RWG was Ziggy, our in-house watch guru (not a bad painter, either). 1 of the other sad losses is all of the staggeringly beautiful pics Ziggy posted in many of his brilliant technical threads like this 1. There is no way to convey the power of Ziggy's articles without their accompanying pics; many being next to useless without them. I believe the 1 you are viewing now is 1 of Ziggy's best & it, too, misses the top mark since the pic links are all broken. But the wealth of information about the Asian 7750, which continues to power many rep & franken watches today is too useful not to be missed by you newbies. So, bumped.
