  1. Unless I am mistaken, I have seen those very same pics posted here & I just think it is a bad idea to post frankens on TZ (& I know that 1 of the TZ Mods does not like it).
  2. Click me
  3. 1 more fact - Behind every dark cloud lies a rainbow.
  4. As I was uploading the previous pic I just took of my Rose Tudor for the weekend wristies, I happened to look out the window & saw a rainbow. So I grabbed my camera & dashed out just in time to snap this (The rainbow is gen)
  5. Looks really good, Avitt.
  6. What's in a name? That which we call a rose By any other name would smell as sweet Just minutes later, I caught this
  7. Thanks all.
  8. Just frothy milk. 'Tea, without milk, is so uncivilized.' --Donald Pleasance, The Great Escape
  9. No, nothing misleading at all. The genuine ETA 7750 is made in Switzerland, yours is made in China, which means it is not a genuine ETA movement - it is a clone (copy). The Asian-made clone is a very good clone, but it is still a clone. As has already been suggested, there is a wealth of detailed information on these movements - both Swiss & Asian - in Ziggy's section as well as a number of other RWG forums. I think your datewheel may have had an overlay glued onto it & that may have been what your watchmaker balked at dealing with. And this is another good example of why it is important to phone a watchmaker to see if he is willing to work on a replica watch (with a replica movement) before you make the trip.
  10. A prank is a prank up until you steal & use someone else's identity & materials for something like this. While I am sure that everyone appreciates your willingness to come clean (though I have to wonder if the impetus for this posting was at the insistence of another party), I doubt that I would have been quite as dismissive of your actions as those who were directly effected.
  11. Going gen today (Friday)
  12. 1 of the 'modules' is the auto-wind module, which includes the winding rotor. Check to see if that is included before handing over the cash. If these movements are being sold without both the date-change & auto-wind modules, the time & cost required to find, purchase & fit both modules may make the deal a bit less attractive.
  13. I was working late this evening while wearing 1 of my grail watches & snacking on 2 of my favorite foods - semi-sweet chocolate chips in pure, natural peanut butter & tea. As I was working & eating, it suddenly dawned on me that it does not get any better than this I have my health, a stable job & career that I enjoy, wonderful family/friends & a heaping bunch of pretty cool watches. I have many blessings & much to be thankful for. So, to all of my RWG friends, a pre-Christmas wish of peace, health, prosperity & good cheer to you & yours in this & the coming new year.
  14. Excellent wristie (as usual), Dluddy. I had dinner (Thursday) with a friend & wore my Daytona beater, which she modeled previously (& has promised her wrist for future modeling jobs) (I love this watch so much I could shoot it)
  15. I think that every hobby has within it various branches or levels of serious effectors of that hobby. Back when I got into reps (25 or so years ago), I remember hearing about these ghost-like craftsmen who manufactured & sold franken watches. These often incredible creations were far beyond what many now refer to as a 'Super Rep' since they were hand-made & assembled with genuine parts. Back in the day, you had to know someone who knew someone if you wanted to buy a good rep watch, and tracking down a real connection for a franken was next to impossible (I was never able to back then). Today, there are many more people who manufacture frankens and/or made-to-order non-gen watches. The only real difference is that it is far easier for potential buyers to find them because of the Web.
  16. WD40.
  17. 5514 with just completed 9315 folded link (removed rust/corrosion & most serious damage, but left just enough 'wear' to maintain the appearance of a freshly serviced, 40 year-old tool watch)
  18. If the seller comes through on his offer, this could be quite a deal for someone looking to build a franken. PM sent on related issue.
  19. You say the crown problem began after you started wearing the watch again subsequent to its having been dropped. What do you think the problem is?
  20. The crown unscrewing/screwing occurs between the crown & crown tube So, most likely, the fall bent or damaged the tube and/or its threads. But the only way to know for sure is to open the case, release/remove the stem/crown & inspect the threads.
  21. I never met a DW Daytona I did not like. And this 1 is no exception. 1 thing - you might want to begin the process of sourcing a possible donor/replacement movement now. The MM's reliability record is about as spotted as the chs GMTIIC's modded GMT. If you need more info, search for 'mystery movement'.
  22. Perhaps, a part-time job (or 2) might be in order?
  23. Get a life.
  24. The Omega magazine is a special issue from WatchTime magazine (the current regular issue should have arrived on the reverse side of the same package).
