I came to similar conclusions after I spent some time with the gen. The chs rep (when it works) is very close in appearance & function to the gen, which is why I broke down & made it my 1st rep purchase in over a year.

That is another thing that made me do a double-take instead of just walking away. You do not usually see scam sites that mix gen pics with such obvious (& poor quality) fakes. Also, I have noticed that although most of their Daytonas are posed with their hands in the usual gen Rolex photo positions, many are slightly off. This tells me that their pictures, at least, might actually be original (or they spent alot of time & were very lucky to locate pics of vintage gens all posed in the same position). Look at the position of the second hands & the similar light reflections on the cases/bezels (denoting pics taken in the same location) Proceeding with cautious optimism.

Aye. Most likely a scam site. But if their response provides me with a warm, fuzzy feeling, I may have to preempt DBR. On the negative side, they do not accept Paypal or direct CC orders. A couple of things on the positive side -- For 1 thing, the hands on most of the vintage Rolexes appear new, or, at least, not in the same condition as the dials. This tells me that either the hands on all of these gen vintage watches have been replaced with hands of a more recent vintage or the watches are reps (if these are all pics of vintage gens, it is hard to believe that none of the pictures would be of gens with matching hands). And, although no guarantee of reliability in the rep world, this is from their FAQ --

Like I said, this may be 'Too good to be true' & they may be using borrowed pics of vintage gen watches. But I have never a scam site using pics like these before. As for the About page, it does little to change my opinion. I have emailed the site & will take it from there.

Here is a site that has some EXTREMELY realistic looking vintage Rolex reps. If the pictures are accurate, this site merits some SERIOUS investigation. No prices posted.......you have to email for pricing. I came across an interesting rep site recently. Of course, this site is untested & should be considered suspect until/unless proven otherwise. But they have some unique & interesting pieces displayed that might be worth further investigation since many of their prices are well below $100. As an example, their Rolex Daytona 116509 appears to have an accurate dial, including, for the 1st time in my experience, correct index markers at 3, 6 & 9. Price - '$43.9' Here is the link For the price, I am sure the movement is either not a chronograph or is a POS. But if the pictures accurately represent the watch's appearance, this would be a great way to get an accurate dial (or at least accurate index markers) to replace what comes in some of our collector's 116509s with the wrong index markers. Or a Rolex Daytona 116509 with a PVD-like case. Price - '$45.9' Here is the link Of course, being 'out in the wild', Caveat Emptor (buyer beware).

A rainy Sunday afternoon

Upon receipt of your new watch GMT, wind it 40 turns, set the time & set it on a table & let it run, untouched, for about 2 days. If it stops within the 1st 36 hours or you discover a problem, it may be defective. Contact the seller for instructions. If it runs & keeps good time, you should be fine as long as you do not use the GMT function or try to set the GMT hand. Activating the GMT hand seems to be the catalyst that causes self-destruction in some of these watches. If you leave it alone, there is a better than 50% chance that the watch will keep working (mine has been running flawlessly since June).

I got 1 of the 1st reasonably accurate Panerai reps several years ago, but I always thought it looked like a heart monitor or like I was yelling 'Hey, Everyone, Look At My Watch!!!!!!!!!!!' whenever I wore it. So, for me, the era of the big watch came to an end long before it became trendy. I think anything larger than 40mm or so is too large on my 7" wrist. The only large watch that remains on my 'To Buy' list is the Rolex Deepsea, which will more than likely spend all of its time snorkeling around in the depths of 1 of my watch cases, because it is too obvious (silly-looking) to wear with anything other than a wet suit

If you like the watch (I do) & it is running to spec, that is a reasonable price. And if you ever decide to build a 7928 franken (the only Tudor that has a (future) space reserved for it in my permanent collection), you can ravage that watch for the movement. But, like By-Tor said, Tudor dress watches are not especially collectible (yet), at least not in comparison with some of the more popular Tudor dive or chrono models. But I think the watch will increase in value over time. And it would make a beautiful dress watch if you polish the case & crystal.

Beautiful watch. It would look even better partially covered by a suit jacket sleeve.

Daytona beater today

I would definitely wear it. A classic man's watch & much more interesting than most of the Dick Tracy pocket watch on a strap models that have been so common for the past decade.

1 word - luscious. There have been too many GMTIIs lately.............and now for something completely different
