  1. As usual, great tutorial, Pug. I will soon be retiring my trusty old Powershot A80 in favor of another Canon with a higher mp rating & larger LCD screen (the A80's 1.5" diag flip-out screen is minute by today's standards & nearly useless in the sun). Having cut my photographic teeth on a wonderful Contax for years prior to digital I would love to get a DSLR, but I have become too used to being able to slide a camera into my pocket (especially when I am on the motorcycle), so I can stop & snap roadside pics without having to carry a camera bag or going through the laborious process of unpacking a camera just to take a quick snap from a busy roadway. My ideal camera would be point-and-shoot like the A80, but with 10mp (or higher), a 2.5" LCD, RAW support & higher magnification macro. Does Pug or anyone know of a Canon model that fits that bill?
  2. I am curious also. What happened?
  3. I do not see any difference in the bezel/insert between any of the GMTIIC reps. I also do not think anyone would be able to ID these reps by the thickness of the bezel engravings unless they knew what to look for & had a gen on-hand to make a direct comparison with. I think the most obvious problem with these reps & something that is easier to see is the thickness (or, rather, thinness) of the index markers. The rep markers are narrower than the markers on the gen dial. And while the lack of AR on the cyclops is noticeable in some environments (under the right light), the marker width is always noticeable. That is the most telling marker on the rep, in my opinion. But none of the inaccuracies of out-of-the-box version of this rep would ever be noticed by anyone other than a hard-core WIS & no one here would ever think of posting pics of their rep on TZ, would they?
  4. Best not to use it -- these movements, as they come from the factory, can be VERY problematic. As long as it worked when you tested it (once), I would leave the chrono functions alone from now on. That way, you are less likely to have problems (though the secs at 6 movement itself is prone to problems, but if you search for 'powdered graphite' you can read more about the issue). And I agree with most of the other comments -- a beautiful watch that looks great on your wife. I also agree with iceberg - check out white or blue straps also.
  5. Great pics (as usual) jiro.
  6. Decide on the Daytona model you want (116520, 16520, 6239, etc.) & enter it into the Search at the top of the page (in particular, search the Rolex & Watch Repair forums). You will find all the info you seek.
  7. Thanks, Pug. It was late & I did not even think to check that.
  8. Try pulling the stem out to the time-setting position & running the watch through a complete 24 hour cycle (running the hour hand around the dial twice). Then, press the stem in to the 1st notch (the date/GMT hand setting position) & run the date through all 31 dates. Then turn the stem in the opposite direction & see if the GMT hand moves. If it does, move it through 2 full revolutions of the dial & then press the stem back down & screw it in. Then let the watch run for several hours & see if the GMT moves normally.
  9. Ubi -- Looks good so far. But my guess is that the camera is capable of some highly detailed macros. So I would love to see some really close-ups of the hand stack or bezel grain or the depth of the bezel engraving on the 16520. I would also love to know the model of the camera & MP rating?
  10. Timing is everything Tonight, I took 1 of the Newmans into town for some Italian (a few people we know tagged along with us). Good food, good conversation & a nice quiet evening out with friends. Unfortunately, as the food came & the empty dishes went, I completely forgot to snap a wristie picture in the restaurant. But, as we left, fate stepped in - the couple in front of us stopped outside the front door & the guy said something to his girlfriend like 'In front of all these people (referring to our little group), I have something very important to say to you'. And with that, he dropped down on 1 knee & began telling his girlfriend how much he loves & needs her while his girlfriend seemed mostly preoccupied with window shopping. But our hero endeavored to babble on unabatted & he obviously had no trouble multitasking, because as he was babbling he was removing a small box from his pocket. With this, it suddenly dawned on us what was about to happen & Mr. Right's long-windedness turned out to be a blessing in disguise since it gave my friend just enough time to grab his phone & snap a couple of quick pics (I know the quality sucks, but c'est la vie) Timing, as they say, is everything & I had just enough time to snatch the phone out of my friend's hand to catch the wristie that I forgot to get in the restaurant So, congratulations to the lovely couple, whoever & wherever you are. But, more importantly, thanks for backdropping my wristie, Ted. ____________ Mods -- As this is kind of unique, I was going to post it as a new thread in the General Discussion forum, but I thought you would just move it here (or bury it somewhere else where few would ever find it). But if you feel it merits a thread of its own (in General Discussion), feel free to move it.
  11. Feeling a bit blue & bi-compax today (Friday). But as they say, silence is golden
  12. Never seen a rep of that model, but as you were told in your other post on the subject, the gen is not that expensive so it does not make alot of sense to buy a rep for $200 when the gen is only a few hundred more. But stranger things have happened in the rep world.
  13. I can understand & appreciate your reasoning for the post, but.............. Note to self - Be careful who you confide in.
  14. Excellent work Tribal.
  15. Lani, that is the most beautiful sight I have seen today. Aloha F
  16. Easy. Just send your gen DRSD into an RSC & they will swap the original, worn out old tritium dial out for a brand spanking new luminova dial.
  17. This is a new 'MarkVII' luminova dial that Rolex is fitting to DRSDs Click me

Happy to see you are keeping busy. Great work, as usual, Tribal.
  19. Low values 3 days out are meaningless for Rolex parts. It will probably go for $150-$250.
  20. To add to Stephane's comments, I actually did get a low profile Daytona case out of the deal. Just not quite the case I was promised (or paid for).
  21. At the end of every rainbow.......... is another colorful gas bill. Paying bills today
  22. Were it me (assuming your watchmaker is good & honest), I would have the watch properly overhauled (cleaned, lubed & adjusted). Considering that the movement you will get in a new rep will be unserviced & may also be of poorer quality than your current movement, having your existing (known good) movement put into proper working order would be a better option.
  23. No 'jewels' for me, but an otherwise brilliant effort. I eagerly await the new pics with the better camera & jubilee. Great work as usual, Stilty. I am putting the finishing touches on a another DJ myself, but with plain silver dial & steel machine turned bezel. This 1 will probably end up on a leather strap.
  24. Even if you were intimately familiar with that model (of gen), it would be very difficult to verify the watch's authenticity (or not) from the viewing distance of a stranger's arm, unless it was a Canal Street quality rep (very bad fake). But since you described yourself as a non-Rolex expert, your chances are slim-to-none.
