Silvio -- Great start to your project. With the exception of the lugs (I have seen many vintage gen Dwellers with uneven lug widths), I have already done what you described in my MBW DRSD (including the addition of a working Hev) (Close ups of Hev) (CGs reshaped to match 1st version gen DRSD on double red sea dweller com) (Another CG view of the DRSD sitting next to GMTIIC) (New dial fit onto overhauled 1575) (Test fitting new dial & 1575 into MBW case - 1575's locking screws fit into MBW case through cut-out installed for Hev mod) (If you remove about .5mm of metal from the outside circumference of the 1575's date change ring (which comes off by removing the 3 circled screws), the movement will fit into the MBW case perfectly (Ziggy's mod))

Unless you (incorrectly) glued the tube into the case, you should be able to remove it fairly easily by wedging a small, round hobby file into the hole & then unscrewing the tube by turning the file.

Based on your description, that is not a gen Rolex. Or at least the engravings were not made by Rolex SA. But pictures might help in locating the source.

Interesting story, but I must be missing the punchline or something. I am not getting what the connection is between this typical Canal Street quality rep & any other reps -- past, present or future? This is the same quartz Sub that is sold on the street corners of many larger cities. No? Why all the hoopla?

I am not a big fan of the LV (gen or rep) & the other link you posted is a red Sub (not a 'Double-Red' Seadweller). Honpo's Sub is not terrible, but nothing special either. I think you can get a similar or better watch from most of the collectors here & they tend to be more reliable than Honpo. For my money, Honpos best watches are his 7750-powered Daytonas with asymmetrical pushers (Same as above but without 'Daytona' text) Or his 6263 with brown (faux 'faded' black) faded subdials I do not believe that any of our regular collectors list any of those watches on their sites. But be warned that Honpo has a gained a somewhat notorious reputation from members who have dealt with him before (I had a brief email exchange with him & then he vanished). Buyer beware. However, if you are interested in vintage Daytonas, 'DW' is the best of the best. Use the Search feature at the top of any page for info, or upgrade your membership to Supporter & PM me. Now that I look at this closer, I am not so sure what this is? Gen or a rep? The index markers definitely look wrong for a gen & right for a rep, but the CGs look gen (or a modded rep) & the finish of the center links also look gen (& if he modded them, he did a much better job than I have been able to do on any of my reps).

The best advice is to learn what the gens look like before you do anything. Collect as many gen pics as you can & then decide how much you want to spend on a rep. $150? $300? $600? $2,500+? Then research the available rep & franken options & compare to the gens to see which rep or franken's inaccuracies bother you the least.

If you are careful, you may be able to remove the cyclops without dismantling the watch or removing the crystal. Sometimes, swishing a Q-tip soaked with nail polish around the cyclops will loosen it. Acetone is pretty good at penetrating into the joint where the crystal mates with the cyclops. No guarantee though & I do not know if the insert would be damaged by the acetone if it spills onto the bezel.

It is easy to recognize because I re-posted the pic Dowling just re-posted in this thread on RWG right after the Basel Fair.

An example of a cyclops being successfully (& safely) removed with nothing more than acetone (nail polish remover).

Looks like a redial to me. Here is a close-up of an unmodified gen dial for comparison

I hope the AD/seller has a large number (>500) of similar/previous watch sales with a 99%+ rating. Otherwise, I would never buy a watch from a seller with de-focused pictures. Without seeing at least 1 good, clear picture of the entire dial (including the entire crown, which is obscured in the pictures you posted here), I would have passed. But since the deal has been made, I hope it works out.

Yes & we are already known to him. So the guy that posted the rep pics is just pouring gas on an already smoldering fire. And with the economy being so volatile, the gen companies are putting alot more effort into locating profit leaks in the dike, so to speak.
