  1. Has anyone ever tried to fit Michael's 6542 bezel/insert combo And his 6542 hands Onto 1 of Josh's vintage GMT (or Silix's CG-free Sub) cases Are you with me here............ With the CGs removed & a 6542 dial & datewheel fitted, it might just work.
  2. I looked at that 1 too. Someone else did a nice GMT using the Silix Sub case, but I think their GMT had the later painted metal insert & I want to do a proper plexi insert. I have a feeling I would have to trim too much off the insert to fit this bezel. But that may be the best option. Thank you.
  3. How do you know they did not get your mailing address through the usual 'legitimate' sources (the same place all your other junk mail gets your address from)?
  4. Hike - The August issue of Watchtime has an 'IWC In Depth' feature you might want to check out. Been wearing the 6239 since this morning.......just because But going back to my beater in a few
  5. Yeah, what Lani said. Exactly.
  6. Excellent tip, Stilty. I was not aware of that & I use that stuff too.
  7. If you rinse yourself in scotch, why would you need to shower?
  8. Yes, that is my backup plan. But I am looking for a rep that has the correct case dimensions (39mm x 13mm). All of the vintage GMT reps I have found are 40mm x 12.5mm (or 14.5mm). Any ideas (other than NTTrading/Vietnamese or similarly unrealistically-priced cases)?
  9. Thanks, Alli. I am looking for a reasonably priced alternative.
  10. Hike, I hate to tell you this, but unless you rinse yourself (& your watch) off with denatured alcohol upon leaving your shower, that soap you use to wash the sweat/salt away may also be leaving a nice additive residue on & around the gaskets in your watch which decreases their lifespan & increases the chance for leakage. Just look at the scum it leaves on your shower tiles (unless/until you remove it with a bathroom cleaner). And the repetitive heating/cooling, which leads to repetitive expansion/contraction of the rubber material, does not help either.
  11. Does anyone know of a collector or reliable source that sells the old style SS GMT reps (or cases) that measure 39mm x 13mm & do not have crown guards? Preferably with a SS jubilee bracelet.
  12. Nice work, all. TMG - I really like what you have done with your 1675, but I think you need to 'antique' it a bit. As it is, the watch looks too pristine, which, for this model, is not a benefit. If you gave it the 'Nanuq treatment' (a few minutes of accelerated motion (shaking) within a jar filled with coinage), it would just about have fooled me (even with the over enthusiastically countersunk lug holes). Something I just noticed -- Definitely, a VERY small detail, but I thought I would mention it -- The division between red & blue at the 18 in the bezel insert may not be at the right spot. I think division on the gen insert occurs right in the middle of the number & yours is just prior to the 8. One of the parts sellers has better inserts for this model, but I cannot remember who it was?
  13. Sure. Check By-Tor's tagline.
  14. If you plan to get your particular watch wet, 1st, get it properly pressure tested by a watchmaker (& do it once/year if you get your watch wet on a regular basis). Without a recent test, you are playing Russian roulette, regardless of how well Joe Blow says his rep did on a snorkeling trip last Tuesday.
  15. Well done whoever you are.
  16. Lani -- Great write-up, but I have to disagree with what you said above. As I understand the seizure laws pertaining to the importing of contraband goods through the mail, US Customs can & will seize any illegal goods (replicas) they find during package inspections, regardless of the number of items in the package. I cannot imagine a Customs agent turning the other cheek & allowing a rep watch to continue on its way just because there was only 1 in the package.
  17. They are actually easy if you can find someone who will click the shutter for you without 1st telling you there is something seriously wrong with you.
  18. Anyone know if there is a control that turns off the 'You've got mail!' audio racket that just became active for new PMs today? I think having the message pop up all over my screen when I am trying to read or post is more than enough to get my attention.
  19. The rep on the left scared the neighbor's cat so badly that I had to shoot it in the head & let the parakeets skull fukc it down from my window.
  20. Either a movement in need of general servicing or a mainspring that is not fully charged. Have you tried manually winding it 40 turns yet? If not, try that & see how it runs for the next 40 or so hours. If it runs without stopping, then that was the problem. If it stops again during that time, you need to have it serviced. My 4 week old chs is still beautiful & continues to meet COSC specs
  21. Running to the ATM now Seriously, it is all yours & good luck.
  22. I am not familiar with that winder, but the A, B & C probably translate to the number of turns per 24 hours (650, 850 & 1,000, which is fairly standard) & the 0, 12 & ON are probably Off, 12-hour cycle & On (always). I am less sure about the 2nd set of control settings because I have never seen a winder labeled that way. But it should be pretty obvious if the 0 = Off & ON = Always on. In that case, the 12 is probably a 12-hour cycle.
  23. Thanks for posting. Wow, only 1 word to describe that shot -- Magnificant. Well done.
  24. Most are 1675s. But the real honey is the VERY rare, original GMT - the 6542 with Perspex (acrylic covered tritium) bezel, which is not 1 of the watches in the picture
