  1. Great post & congratulations on acquiring 1 of your 3 dream watches. My guess is that you will find similar differences in fit & finish between every rep & gen you compare. This is why it makes more sense to go franken or gen (instead of modding a rep) above $500-$600.
  2. Here are a few new Cosmograph pics to keep the juices flowing
  3. Ofrei.com or cas-ker.com should have what you need. In future, you should include the brand & model of watch if you want to make things easier.
  4. Arty -- Nice trio. That Gevril is the 3rd or 4th Newman copy (from different watch companies) I have seen in recent years. If there is that much interest in the design, Rolex would have to be crazy not to be contemplating releasing a new version (as they recently did with the Milgauss). The could easily sell a steel version for $25k without breaking a sweat.
  5. Who cares how user-friendly a chrono is when they are this sexy (and my camera is only 4mp & this picture does not do it justice)
  6. The 6263 model was the first Daytona rep I ever bought (10-12 years ago). It still runs (not very accurately), but none of the functions operate as they do on the gen & it is not a very accurate replica overall, especially compared to the 7750-powered 6263 (with asymmetrical pushers) from DW in the top photo. I still say these watches are the best buy in vintage Daytona reps today. And by a wide margin.
  7. The end pair (watches & picture inspired by the previous one (above))
  8. Chevall -- Click here and enter your message in Italian and then click the 'Italiano / Inglese' link to convert to English. Then use your cursor to select the English text and copy/paste it into your post here. The translation still may not be perfect, but at least it will be sufficient to allow English speaking members to reply to your questions.
  9. Wow!!!!!!!! It is rare that an image will give me pause, but this one sure did. Beautiful photograph of an even more beautiful scene. I hope you had a good reason for leaving paradise (other than the realities of work, family obligations, lack of money, etc)............... Oh, you almost made me forget about the wrist check.......... Daytona beater today
  10. This caseback is, by far, the most accurate I have ever seen on a 1665 rep (including the MBW I got from George last year). Not only does the lettering look properly pressed/stamped like a 1970s caseback would (as opposed being laser-etched like my MBW & every other 1665 rep I have seen), but the dot between the final 'T' in Patent and the final 'E' in Valve is even in the correct location. Does anyone know if this caseback is available separately? Or, if not, is the case (with this exact caseback) available?
  11. Sorry to hear the bad news, but we have all had similar experiences along the way. That is how you learn. Good luck with the next one.
  12. I use fine and, if needed, superfine followed by an initial buff by way of a dremel (at slowest speed) fitted with a cloth wheel coated with green rouge (available at ofrei.com or any other watch supply house). Finally, if I want a brilliant shine (for modern watches), I may do a final hand buffing with Maguiar's Mirror Glaze Number 7 (available at many auto parts stores) and a clean terry cloth towel.
  13. Thanks, and unless your Daytona owing friends are also TZ regulars, I seriously doubt that they would spot your rep Daytona. Rolex owners (except those who are TZ regulars or watchmakers) tend to know nothing about their watch beyond the name on the dial. One of the differences I have noted between the gen dial & the one I just installed is that the subdial rings on the gen are composed of about 12 ridges (you can almost count them in your pictures, but it is easier to do when you have the dial in your hand and view it through a loupe), while there are only 8 or 9 ridges in the subdial rings on the rep dial (my original rep dial has 14 or 15 ridges). If you do not mind my asking, what did you pay for your gen dial? You can PM me if you would rather not post the answer.
  14. Never been a Cartier fan (still not), but I enjoyed the well written review & pictures.
  15. Rolex 16014 Datejust with white gold diamond cut bezel & Jubilee bracelet Rolex 116509 Cosmograph Daytona with silver dial Jaeger-LeCoultre Master R
  16. And welcome back to the fold. You were missed & I hope you are back to stay (in spite of the occasional troll or fool).
  17. I think it is either the camera angle or the way light reflects off the metal surrounds. I just used a straightedge to check the alignment of all 6 pairs of markers (12/6, 1/7, 2/8, 3/9, 4/10 & 5/11) & they are dead on. But I am pretty twisted too, so who knows.
  18. I am not a big PAM fan, but how often would you wear the Seiko?
  19. Not sure which is more beautiful -- the equipment rack or the woodwork. :cloud9:
  20. I thought there might be 1 or 2 other serious hi-fi nuts around here. There is also a matching Model 10 tuner & I used to run them into Marantz 8s or 9s (mono tube amps), but sold them to help fund a business years ago. The guy I got the equipment from (25 years ago) still had all of the original sales paperwork & sales brochures he picked up during his pre-purchase shopping trips. I even got the unused warrantee card that came with the 7. Unfortunately, he had had a custom cabinet built to store most of the equipment in, otherwise he probably would have kept the boxes as well.
