Congrats and best wishes on the next chapter in your lives!

Count me in! And I need to say here and now, without all the help, time, and emails I would have never been able to muddle through this by myself Martin! Thanks again!

Very nice chefcook! I am jealous of your watch!... and even more jealous of your skills!

Awesome db2! Glad it is all coming together for you! I was amazed to find out there were at least three of us doing this .....at the same time! I was first inspired to build one of these by a thread over at RG where I met LHOOQ and saw what he had built (along with a few others). When I found out there was a VN case for sale, I decided to take the plunge. The Viet Nam case set that came from LHOOQ My parts from cousins And finally the donor Omega watch with cal 565 I found a watchmaker in Arizona that loves and works mostly on Omega watches, and sent the whole mess to him. He had completed the service of the movement and assembled the watch last friday and called me to say it was rockin along great and would ship it back to me today, so I should have mine back midweek! Can't wait to get it and I can't wait to see db2's and any others being completed! ETA: The watchmaker told me he was really impressed when I told him the parts came from the Philippines, Israel, UK and America!

I don't know the reason for the packaging, but I have seen it many times on VRF and also on eBay, where seller sells this way. This is a 127 from him. Came in tiny ziplock. the best pics I could take before work. Again, I don't know for fact it's gen, it didn't have a plastic film on it btw.

I am grateful for all the generous information that is shared here and to the friends I have made on the forum, so I will try to contribute a little here. I didn't want to step on toes or upset anyone, but sly asked about the seller, and I replied honestly with my experience with him. As I said, I have no affiliation with him other than buying rolex parts, gen and aftermarket, and a few email exchanges. He was helpful and given me good deals. I would suggest anyone buying parts to do research on any seller..as I did. I'm not his friend or buddy. I just don't like disinformation like "scammer" tossed out...however well intended. This is what I know about Cameron Weiss, He is a credited watchmaker and belongs to all the guilds and organizations that most of them belong to. He owns his own storefront business in Miami where he services Rolex primarily. He has a line of dive watches he sells. He is a personal friend of the owner of Watchuseek. He is a publisher on Watchuseek. His website: http://www.weisswatchcompany.com/about_us.html Some info from Watchuseek: http://forums.watchuseek.com/f2/please-welcome-cameron-weiss-watchmaker-new-publicist-watchuseek-529784.html I just can't imagine someone going to school to learn this trade, set up a business with all the associated costs, design and market a line of watches w those costs and investment, network and spend the time to make contacts and friends in the industry, contribute on several gen watch forums.....only to throw that all away..... and become a scammer to make like 20$ on some fake crystals on ebay. You tell me? I take this with some interest, as I am a small business owner and I have worked very hard at my reputation. This was not my intention to come off as a know it all or anything like that... but I hope this information is of some use when deciding to buy from him. Anything is possible in this world...he might be selling fake crystals....and that's why I researched him before buying.

That's Cameron Weiss, he's a watchmaker in Florida and I have purchased from him several times. Not a scammer. He sells Rolex crystals in the Rolex packaging also if there is a question of authentic or not. I am not affiliated with him, I just have experience with him. He has a website and a phone#. This is a new ebay account for him and for whatever reason there is that negative feedback. No idea on that, but he does deliver gen parts.

Tudor Heritage for me!

Sheeesh! + a gazillion more!

Buy a base watch and get ahold of some of the better known modders. Find out what parts you will need... and once you have what you need..send the whole mess off and wait!

dear Redwatch, I think you should know your Tudor contacted me earlier and wants to come here and live with me.

Freddy, I kinda did and he kinda gave me a generalized answer that they are SS pins used for the flip lock clasps. When I showed him my rep 16610 last year..he kinda looked dissapointed in me..so I have not talked about reps since then. His shop is a couple doors down from my shop, we have been business neighbors for several years. When I saw the assortment box, it was a thin plastic box 2x3" with compartments and sizes of the tiny pins. He said it was a common repair for him. So I googled and found something like this, it looked similar: http://www.jewelerssupplies.com/product2097.html

I have that one and rarely wear it. It looks good in the box, but looks dainty on my wrist. I just can't get used to it. I think a black dial would work better for me.

The good news: I got my rivet back from the jeweler yesterday, he finally finished resizing it. Other than the two rivets with tiny round tops instead of indented ones like the rest..it was perfect, like it was made that way. I installed it back on my vintage Milgauss where it came from originally and the fit was great. He told me that it was a very easy job to do, replacing rivets, other than my bracelet is the stretch version and that threw him for a loop. He told me once he figured that out it wasn't bad. The bracelet looked awesome on my Milgauss! The bad news: I decided I wanted to put it on my 5512 with gen springbars, so I got out a couple small punches to open up the endlinks for the 2mm bars. I did that..and put it on the 5512 and the endlinks are now deformed, messed up and do not fit the watch well. I thought: well no problem, I'll just use the 5512's endlinks. That is when I discovered the rivet's endlinks are permanent to the bracelet and held on by more rivets! Uhg!!! I guess it goes back to the jeweler. At least I know in the future that my jeweler is able to properly resize any rivet bracelet I buy.

Beautiful watch sly! May I ask where you got a gen case, and appx what did it set you back?

There is so much great information in this thread for you to digest. But honestly, I think the best bet for you in your situation is the 127$ 42mm Planet Ocean from Josh. It is very accurate for the price, it's comfy, looks gen, and believably affordable for a young man in your position. That will get you started in this hobby and keep you satisfied for a long time. To fully understand all the info in this thread even, ...takes time! That's my best shot. Welcome, and good luck with whatever you choose! Please excuse the poor Iphone pic..the watch looks much better in person.
