  1. OK, my package of 2 inserts arrived and I began the task of installing one into the bezel of the Big Gonzo. It didn't go well, good thing I ordered two. Here's the results of my first attempt. Any guidelines to help me not ruin the next one as I attempt to install it? It's a *cough* tight fit.
  2. I think this says a lot about what Micky is going through, and how you guys are holding him up as he holds his family up.
  3. Too cold? I'd have the top down at 0F in that beauty! Here's my convertible...
  4. Pffffft! Maybe for that pansy Aston you drive! Now my Land Rover on the other hand....
  5. "Unlike a human being, a Land Rover is capable of returning affection."
  6. Dammit! Q: A neutrino walks into a bar and orders a beer. The bartender says....?
  7. That's fantastic news AJ. I've been through this for the last year with my dad, made 6 emergency flights to go see him on death's door, and he's still here. So I'm intimately familiar with what this means to Micky and his family, and what you've done for him. He will never forget it. This is what makes this place great. We few, we happy few, we band of brothers.
  8. Quest Here's my buddy Frank playing the role of Shute:
  9. A: What about Bob? Because of Dr. Leo Marvin. "No, you won't. You're just *saying* you will! But then, after I don't kill you, you'll show up again. And you'll do something else to make everyone in my life think you are wonderful and I'm a schmuck. But I'm not a schmuck, Bob, and I'm not going to let you breeze into town and take my family away from me, just because you're crazy enough to be *fun*."
  10. A: to be an effective leader you have to prepare yourself and gather strength and "vision" when you can. If you're the leader of your family they depend on you to have "vision" and to be strong. If sending them away to enjoy themselves for 10 days gives you time and space to get stronger, then you've accomplished TWO good things, not just one. Q: indoor vs. outdoor ... which is better hockey?
  11. I still want to see the GoPro video from AJ's dashcam too. Holy smokes this ought to be good.
  12. WTF is Eww? That makes it simple. By simple one-to-one character replacement, W = E T = W F = W But wait a moment, T=W, but we already determined W=E. So by secondary substitution we see that T=W=E. Similarly, F=W, but W=E. So likewise, F=W=E. We therefore arrive at WTF=EWW ... or EEE. QED. It's all Es. See how "easy" that was?
  13. Kernow, Micky and AJ, please go have a couple rounds of beers on me when you get the chance. I'm holding out hope you'll make it in time. Someone PM me the damage and I'll cover it.
  14. I hear ya mate, you can almost turn a "date" watch into a no-date too, using the right dome. I did that with my first Snowflake, I built the date version and used a tropic 19. The end result looked like a no-date until you looked closely. I don't know if I told you the story about my tropical gilt dial. I bought my 1675 years ago for a song because the owner thought it had a fake dial. It turned out to be a very rare matte "radial" dial. So a couple years ago the AD called and said he had a tropical gilt dial for me, gratis. I just needed to give him some sort of 1675 dial to turn in to the factory instead of the gilt. So $50 later I had a tropical gilt 1675 and my lovely, precious radial dial was on its way to the crusher. Man I wish I had a couple days to make that decision when he called, I could have picked up a garden variety dial here cheap, and kept both flavors. Final offer... Ken's Left Nut for that tropic 38. You know I'm desperate when I "go there".
  15. After Breitling fell on hard times in the 70s it was fortunately saved from the ash heap of history, and the Nativimer lives on. The lines continue to be blurred.
  16. Please let me know if you decide to let that tropical go. I'll sell mine and make you an offer. And that Tropic-38 needs to live in Alaska too. Let me know if you want to let it go.
  17. It's best to buy simple watches because fragile complications (like chronos) fail. So get a simple watch and maintain it, and there's no reason it won't last awhile. A real Swiss movement ought to last better; I've got a couple frankens (Swiss movements) that are still going strong after 10+ years of weekly use.
  18. I'm still wishing I was here for the Large Hadron question About the watch: No. My perspective comes from years of rebuilding a 60s Land Rover. I've used almost all original parts but when it comes time to change the chassis I won't be buying a NOS chassis that was sitting in the factory waiting for me. When the chassis swap is completed, yes, it will still be a Land Rover.
