  1. Here's the gilt dial my buddy at the AD set me up with for my '64. I like yours a lot better!
  2. The lines were blurred back then between many of the watch manufacturers.
  3. Who you calling Steamed, mate? Seriously, those are great results!
  4. "If it ain't broke, I ain't fixed it enough yet."
  5. Ezio, those are very wise words. This past year I flew to see my dad 6 times when it seemed I was about to lose him. I'll never forget that time. Ssteel, what other options do you have? Train? Boat? Hell, get a kayak and hit the waves.... you're young and strong. Move heaven and earth to get to London, mate.
  6. In the natural world, is true randomness possible? All things can be attributed to a cause, even if we cannot see it. Take the tree outside my window. The leaves appear to be randomly distributed. But each leaf initiation has a number of factors, such as direction and amount of sunlight, the winds at the time, the state of the tree's nutrition, etc. Or stars in the sky ... they appear to be randomly distributed even though we look for patterns there. But each one is where it is due to specific factors, even if those factors are beyond our scope. What about a car accident, is that random? One can trace the path of your car, and whatever you hit, the time you left, the decisions you made, which led to you being in a particular place at a particular time ... and thus in an accident. Is this truly random? It was unplanned, but not random. So, one could define "randomness" as something that we just do not have enough mind-power to comprehend.
  7. Doggone it, Micky I'm sorry to hear that. Is there ANY way you can get there sooner? Can you take emergency leave or anything else? If the doctor is telling you it's this advanced, you need to drop everything and go right now. This is a day and a week you will never get back with her, and it will probably be the most significant week of them all. This day and week are uniquely valuable. My advice is to pursue it just like that. Drop everything and GO.
  8. @Legend, I wrote that with a Sharpie on my stapler at work too.
  9. Dammit DTM, quit typing and go create that magical missing piece. My many Yuki bands and vintage watches depend on you! You're my only hope!
  10. Precisely. You can build a very nice little Big Crown for very little money. But if this is more than just an itch you want to scratch this month, if it's something you want to keep a couple decades, then you need a GOOD case, dial, crown, crystal, bezel and insert. Buying what Phong interprets as "good" parts isn't really the right way to do it. What looks right to YOU? This means you need to do your homework and figure out what's "right" in your eye. Then you painstakingly assemble that watch. It's kinda like the kid at high school and his parents bought him a Vette, and he knows absolutely nothing about it. I'd rather be the kid that brought an old beater back from the brink, rebuilt the engine, painted it, got some blood on the parts, and can tell you EVERYTHING about that car.
  11. When I get a Yuki I use my cheap $7 set of grocery store jeweler screwdrivers and I cram and twist the #3 slotted driver through the springbar tube. Then I cram the small Phillips through there and twist to open it up. I can do that and get gen bars through the end links and make it fit my vintage cases.
  12. "Valuable contribution" doesn't begin to describe it. It's possible to make a Yuki look and feel like a gen, except for that blasted end link. All my vintage pieces need folded/riveted bands and your little project here is gonna save me $2,000 plus for each one. Fingers crossed for a good outcome!
  13. It was the summer of 1970 when I first heard about the Honda 3RC164. It was a 247cc six cylinder race bike with 8mm spark plugs and jewel like valves and pistons. It was 7 speeds and made 54hp at 17,000 rpm. The music was surreal. Q: if we call a tail a leg, how many legs does a dog have?
  14. Got a dash cam, AJ? I'd love to see some video of this drive.
  15. I think it would be a wonderful thing to ride with Andy, he's offering out of pure kindness, because he cares about you mate. In hard times like these, the happy moments are few and far between. When one comes, grab it and treasure it. This is one of them. Andy, if you drive I'll buy the gas / petrol. Deal? Godspeed, my friend. This will be hard but you are NOT ALONE. We've got your back.
  16. Outstanding!! Very well done.
  17. Just a camping headlight, matches, cell phone if there's coverage, water and a couple granola bars. Travel light and enjoy the stars.
  18. Mike On A ...... Boat? Looks great! Nice pickup. Gonna try some fishing from that thing?
  19. Thanks gents! It was a great day. I'm crawling into a sleeping bag exhausted and smiling.
