  1. Here's a MK-III DRSD, with what appears to be full provenance. Is it real, or fake? Mystery DRSD
  2. I was PM-ing with someone yesterday who asked about buying a gen DRSD. I ran across a very interesting example this morning... and very inexpensive. It's rough, but very early, and a great starting point for someone with mad modding skillz. Its description tells you a lot about the seller, so buyer beware. 1967 DRSD
  3. The last photo of the SLC employee before he lost the tip of his nose in an unfortunate accident.
  4. The Alaska Sea Life Center has a new resident! This baby sea otter, named Kaladi, was only days old when some hikers rescued it from a beach on Kodiak.
  5. Zee elusive Zubmariner, as viewed in a mirror? Hey I've seen worse. The first canal street version I bought was a SUPERLATIVE CHRONOMETR.
  6. Very nice result! They should be a rich ivory color... yours look spot on.
  7. Thanks Ubi! The guy I bought it from actually believed that was a fake dial so I got it at about half the going price. Orchi even has a photo of it now. I am, however, slightly concerned about the date wheel.
  8. Not to worry, Gran ... the mountain is 80 miles from my house.
  9. Chocolate yumminess!
  10. Okay, when we get Jojo's sorted out, then we can open the questions on mine. There's a rarity there too.
  11. Okay someone has to procure one of these for a REAL test. I'm thinking Mt. Redoubt is a good test bed. Here's the last time it popped: We ought to be able to produce a recorded chart similar to this one... I'm aiming for some of those nice red impacts.
  12. I'm gonna have to call on the shotgun blast. I searched Youtube and found a couple of Swiss guys recreating that test... BLAM! Toasted crystal and four divots in the dial. That means we still need to recreate the dynamite test!
  13. Boy I dunno... maybe his date font is off a smidge? I've had people question mine too.
  14. Pffffffffffft. I already have one of those. From 10 years ago! * 7750 automatic ETA caliber with COSC-certification as a chronometer chronograph * 25 jewels * 48-hour power reserve * Solid titanium case and bracelet * Antireflective saphire crystal with 10mm of thickness * Superb illuminescent hands and indices for remarkable glow Wait a minute. Did someone say dynamite??
  15. MAN you guys have some nice pieces! Nice photography too! Here's my crusty old piece of tin...
  16. I know for a fact this place carries a financial virus. It keeps resetting my bank balance to zero!
  17. Then there are those of us who use vintage Rolex to burst the bubble of wannabe watch aficionados for the pure sport of it. Evil? Oh, definitely yes. Every so often I am forced to travel to the Atlantic City area for business. And if there's one thing a gambler's mecca has, it's high end watch shops. So if I find myself in the vicinity on a weekend, I just cannot say no. I was in one store looking at nice chronographs, having walked right past the display of (ewwwwwwwww) new Rolex. Wearing cheap shorts, a long sleeve Kaladi Brothers t-shirt and birkenstocks, I was holding a very nice IWC split seconds flyback chrono. The salesman was looking at me like I had crawled out from beneath the boardwalk. I admired the precision of the flyback mechanism, and the salesman asked if I had seen the new Daytona yet? His voice was dripping with sarcasm ... you could drown an entire squad of Aquazine synchronized swimmers with one sentence. So I perked right up and said "Daytona?" Let me see!! (imitating a buck-toothed midwestern corn-fed ranch hand). I scooted over to the seat in front of the (long pause) Roooooooooooolex display, and he handed me a Black Widow Daytona, asking me to please keep it above the padded display. One can never tell when one might be seized with a sudden need to scratch one's backside, inadvertently dropping the expensive watch on the glass counter top. So I turned the horrific Black Widow this way and that, imagining how it looked in my mind's eye compared to Ubi's Best, and a small glint of genuine vintage stainless steel peeked out from my sleeve. Lo and behold, it sported a 20mm oyster bracelet. The salesman saw it the same time as the store manager, and the salesman asked "oh, are you familiar with the Rolex brand?" I extended my hand just a little, letting the sleeve creep up, and mumbled something just as the manager said in a little tiny squeaky voice like a hamster, "My God, that's a Red". Game, set, match. I wouldn't wear any Rolex newer than about 1975 even if it was given to me. But I love the vintage models.

  19. AAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!! *klunk* <---Nanuq just died. Sounds like it's time for the gloves to come off and Nanuq to get serious. PM coming your way.
  20. That's a good suggestion, guys. Unfortunately Avitt's summary could barely fit in a page, much less a couple of lines. We take banning VERY seriously here, and as Avitt was such a respected and senior member, it was a very very difficult decision. It took us months to come to a consensus. Included in that time were several telephone calls, trying to find middle ground while holding him to the same RWG policies everyone else is expected to follow. In the end, the decision how to proceed was his. So we honored his choice. 'Nuff said.
  21. Hmmmmmm, and hmmmmmm! Got any nice domey side shots for me to lose sleep over? Let's see, the T16 fits the 5510/6538 if I recall, so I used the T18 on my 6536. Here's a profile shot, but wouldn't it look nice with a gargantuan dome on there?
  22. That's a very interesting observation about the availability of "genuine" T19 and T39s. I've got some sources that appear to have figured out how that's working. Suffice it to say, they are not gens. That being said, I bought a T16 and T18 from Philip over on VRF about 8 years ago and neither one have the high dome I really want for my 6536. What else that's more obscure might I look at as a replacement? Oh, and ... NICE results with that vintage!
  23. George takes one for the team! You just don't see that kind of sacrifice from the members of other boards. Hey George can I have your collection of rare victorian codpieces when she has drained the life blood from you?
