  1. Even better deal: item #230494583478 Tudor Oysterdate. Comes with aftermarket AND original folded oyster band, $450 buy-it-now. Free shipping to boot. Keep the folded oyster, sell the Tudor for $450 in less than a week. Bingo twice: another free folded Oyster.
  2. Why didn't I think of that! I had the grinding wheel out... drat! *snaps fingers* Okay Chi, look at "ROLEX-TUDOR Oysterdate 74000 Automatic SS Mens Watch NR" It has a folded oyster, sorta stretched band, the whole shebang is $500 and ends in 7 hours. Buy it, put it on an aftermarket Jubilee for $10, resell for what you paid. Bingo, free folded oyster band. #160450587568
  3. Sorry Chi, that was the deal of the century for sure. I can keep an eye out for another 9315 if you're looking? That is, after all, the best part: thrill of the chase.
  4. Delta / Ubi ... funny you should say that, I saw five bears this weekend, almost ran into one on Sunday on my mtn bike. I stopped about 40' from him and told him to beat it, and he just looked at me like "excuse me?" It took some convincing but I eventually persuaded him to scram. Here's one on the road in front of my house Now how do I get him to WEAR the watch?
  5. Hello Robbie, sorry I'm so late to chime in here. Did you say you've never dipped a toe in the vintage Rolex pool? Ah, you're in for a a treat. Let me offer a suggestion that I think will find a place in your Top Five: the Submariner 6536. It has the classic Rolex look It absolutely disappears on the wrist A good gilt dial with an aged amber plexi crystal takes on a whole "golden" tone Thin, light, sturdy Domed crystal. Lots of people complain about domed plexi crystals getting scratched all the time, but once you accept that, you find the dome and its optical distortions become as important to the "look" as the case shape. It actually gives the watch more character, as its appearance changes from different angles. The dome is what I admire most on my vintages. Give one a try. You'll be pleasantly surprised. Unfortunately a rep won't do it, as nobody has yet captured how thin these things really are.
  6. Hello Woodinville! My ex boss lived there, played a mean fretless Fender bass and Ampeg combo. Small world!
  7. Yowza! Which part of the tall trees are you from? Welcome!
  8. Boy that's a great build! Are you sure that's an MBW dial? A couple of details look a little different. But what a killer build! Let's see a profile shot of that big lurid domed crystal!
  9. Long live the Abyss! What a looker. They say good things come in (cough) pairs, but that piece is one of a kind. P4, next time you get up this way look me up. We'll cook some bear steaks on the deck and talk gnarly old scarred watches over some fine amber ale. edit: better hurry, a BIG dang black bear just walked across my driveway about 2 minutes ago! How cool is that!
  10. My current watch box? Oh, a liddle-a-dis and a liddle-o-dat... You're right, the stories are similar. The 6536 came from a cantankerous old fart who owned it from day 1. The DR came from a real great guy who owned it from day 1. The first guy was a commando type diver, the second guy was a commercial diver and instructor. First guy never had kids, second guy never had 'em. Both liked working with their hands, cutting wood, taking care of their missus. Both pretty much lived loner lives out on the fringe of society, taking big risks. Solid gents, both of them. But one died and his wife was glad to see him go (partially joking) and the other... when he died it just devastated her. He had a huge heart. You know that SeaLab thing? He was there and helped build it. Jacques Cousteau? Diving buddies. Orange DOXA watches in the 60s and 70s? He helped them get the design right; they gave him one as a thank-you. He's been to the bottom of every sea with the DR, every large body of water as far as I know. Classified missions beneath the ice cap, worked the North Sea oil manifolds, you name it. That DR earned its scars. He's watched crystals blow off watches in chambers and he's been to 2,000' in chambers more times than you can shake a stick at. Years and years ago I asked him if I could borrow the DR for a dinner out, and swore up and down I'd get it back to him pronto. His reply? "I trust you with my life. Do you think I care about a watch?" That's who he was. Great guy.
  11. This one never fails. The wrist flip-clock.
  12. Thanks mjmj, that one belonged to a SpecOps troop ... it was issued to him by the military. Because it's a recognizable brand, it was also considered "currency" in case they got in a jam. They could sell their watches anywhere in the world and get funds to get back home. I used to cut and split quite a lot of wood with him, and would admire it as we worked. Well, he finally passed away ... can't really say he died, he was too ornery for that. Let's just say this world got tired of putting up with him. At his funeral his widow found me and handed me something wrapped up in a rag, saying he wanted me to have it. I unwrapped it and just held my breath. He was a cantankerous old fart, and it was beat to hell and back, but it meant a lot that he wanted me to have it. Now, many years later, it's getting close to being presentable again. Anyone have a gen bezel they want to sell cheap?
  13. Here in the Land of the Midnight Sun, you can take pictures without a flash, even after midnight. This is from last Solstice. This little beauty's on my wrist today, but now sporting a riveted strap. Much mo' beddah.
  14. All forum members: I'd like to thank you all for your efforts to keep this place the BEST watch forum on the web. We all work hard to maintain our culture of integrity, and it shows. Thank you. We recently made a small change to the Rules for watch sales. It stipulates a listing cannot be edited after it's posted. This is to protect the seller AND the buyer. In recent weeks this has happened a few times, so it's pertinent to post up the rules again, for everyone's benefit. We exist to spread information about watches, and this is a good mechanism to keep transactions above board too. Again, THANKS TO ALL for your efforts to keep this place #1. Trading Zone Sales Rules STOP - READ THESE RULES BEFORE YOU PROCEED WITH YOUR LISTING This forum is for the sale of personal pre-owned watches You cannot sell watches that have been purchased for the sole purpose of modding/upgrading then re-sold for profit Your sale should have a complete description of the item Condition of the item should be clearly stated Shipping and payment instructions clearly stated Pictures & prices are mandatory Any & all special terms must be clearly posted in the sale (payment methods, post count, membership length or status, etc...) Your listing cannot be edited after it's posted - ALL pictures and description must not be deleted or changed [adding sold, price change, etc. to the description is okay though] Any questions about these rules should be addressed prior to the listing Violation of these rules will result in your privilege to sell on this forum being suspended. Thanks - The RWG Team~

  18. Ah you are right Gunnar, he is not one of God's Own People. Sadly. Cold lutfisk in a glass? Are we ready for that?
  19. Ice cold vodka and pickled herring? YEAH BABY!!!
