  1. Hmmmmm, so THAT'S where I left it. Think they'd send it back if I asked nicely? It gets old hopping around on one foot. Kids nowdays complain about the weakest things, so I point out that it hasn't always been this cushy. When *I* was young we didn't have our mommy to drive us to school, no sir. We walked. And it wasn't some pathetic little one-mile jaunt, it was ten miles to school and 15 miles back home, and uphill both ways. And we did this after the morning chores. Mine was to milk the moose. Did we have a bucket? Sheer luxury! Of course not, we used a spoon to capture the milk, and walked it from the shed to the house, 1/4 mile away through waist deep snow. And we were grateful for the spoon. Our poor neighbors next door used a tiny moose turd receptacle fashioned by smashing a thumb into a turd held in the palm of their hand. Their morning cereal always had a peculiar aroma. Of course we didn't use much milk on our cereal, it was too hard to come by. So we used sea water instead. Not having a bucket, we would walk to the ocean and stand in the surf until our pockets filled with water, herring were an occasional treat. Then we would wait on shore for it to freeze before walking back home. Uphill. When the chores were finished we would share the shoe and walk to school, my brother and I. We had just the one shoe so we would trade off and hop. Of course this led to rather advanced wear, as you can see from the picture. Oh, and don't tell my mother, but this was our good SUNDAY shoe. We always liked the way this one shined in the candlelight.
  2. Delta ... you're getting sleepy ... sleeeeeeeeeepy ... so sleeeeEEEeeeepyyyy ... you want to get rid of that folded oyster bracelet ... you want to send it to Nanuq ... sleeeeeppyyyy ... you're feeling sooooo sleepy ... when I snap my fingers you will have no memory of this.
  3. Very tasty. If Cap'n Jack Sparrow owned a wristwatch ... that would be it.
  4. Hmmmmm, looking closely at your photos, it appears there's a link in there already with solid rivet heads. So I think we're in the clear! PM me your address and I'll shoot the Yuki off to you.
  5. Dunno if it will work, but I have Yuki's 7206 non-expanding folded bracelet and you might be able to unfold a link or two and slip them in there. It has the solid rivet heads, not hollow like yours, so aesthetically it won't be much of a match. But it might work if you're interested.
  6. +1 We Norsks are known for large manly wrists.
  7. I'm waiting for one of the dealers to read this thread and realize they could sell one on MESH and make a fortune. *ahem* It would save me a couple hundred bucks tracking down a nice thick 24mm mesh for that bad boy. *cough*
  8. Not to take this too far off topic, you're right ... Ziggy did an incredible job with mine. The watch is 52 years old, and you just don't want to mess with a dial that old unless you have to. It was so badly done at some point in the past, I had no choice. Ziggy took the risk at my behest, and wow did he come through. It's a magnificent job. Now to drag this back on topic, it is possible to have a dial that looks original, and still glows. Even if it's 40 - 50 years old. So my advice would be to find an early GWSD dial, and have it Ziggified. Best of both worlds. Before After
  9. Ask, and ye shall receive. Looks stock, glows like a torch. And I still wish I could have the "look" without the "glow".
  10. So far the only glitch I've found with the Tapatalk version is, when viewing new releases like the PloProf, every time I click on a page my bank balance drops by $268
  11. Did someone say "bare"? Summer in Alaska is when we all have cookouts! Yum!
  12. Nooooooooooooooooo!!! (picture Nanuq diving in slow motion to stop an accident from happening) I made the same mistake once, wanting a vintage to glow. I did the deed and although it looks stinkin' gorgeous, now I wish it didn't glow. In bright daylight it has an ever so faint green hue to the hour dots and I can't wait for that to wear out again. My bad.
  13. Of course, some gold is more valuable than other......
  14. And to the member that gave the help... Nicely done.
  15. Well done. In life if you ever find yourself in a bad situation, and I'm speaking to myself here too, it is always possible to make the Next Right Decision.
  16. Ubi, you're forgetting this is Rolex Gold. Its intrinsic value is far more than expected. A Rolex NOS "white copper" bezel weighs what, several grams? Your price: $2,000 And it's made of fricken plated brass. One can then extrapolate to the calculated valuation of Rolex Gold.
  17. Cool ... I'm signed in twice! Once here and once on the iPhone.
  18. Shweeeeet! No more trying to read that little bitty web screen on the iPhone! Nicely done, T
  19. Thanks for the 9315 info... I'm looking for replacement folded links for mine, that lives on my DRSD. It's so worn that I'm almost afraid to use it now.
  20. I like that meters-first! Very nice score. If I was him I'd get it in for a service and have them take a close look under the crystal retaining ring at 3:00 and 7:00 positions. There's some funny discoloration there and I'd guess it is NOT waterproof. @Gorilladame, where did you get the 9315 parts for 100
  21. Vintage Rolex is all about the dial. All else being equal, the meters-first wins. Then you figure out if you can afford to make the rest "correct" over time. I spent big money on a mid-range mtn bike a few years ago. I was tempted to go big and get the top end bike but I found out they shared the same frame and swingarm, both guaranteed for life. Knowing I would be breaking and replacing everything on the bike except the frame, I saved big money by going mid-range, then spent the money over time to take it to the top end bike on my own. And I needed to replace the parts anyway. Buy the dial, then later buy the insert, bezel, hands, bracelet as necessary.
  22. Mmmmmmm very nice. Is it 24mm lugs? And who is going to be first to do a mesh band comparo here?
  23. Well said, Chief. There are not enough words to give appropriate thanks for what has been given to us by Soldiers.
