  1. You guys are making me hungry. Now who's ready for a SNOWBALL FIGHT?!!!!! *WHAP!*
  2. I lived on beans and rice and whatever I could catch for months on end in the dark end of the wilds of Alaska, and thought I was doing pretty well. Mushroom risotto? Pretty cushy. Rice and beans is way cheaper.
  3. Ahhhhhh, very intriguing! There's a very interesting correlation between artistic people, gearhead pursuits, and music. You're one of the most artistic people here, a total gearhead, and you like the sound of the triple. How cool is that?! The bike's sound is based mathematically on the resonances produced by the engine, its intake and its exhaust ... in fact its harmonics are very similar to those of a bassoon. A twin has its own signature sound, and an inline four-cylinder engine has its own tonal characteristics. Each require different tunings to run right, and can be compared to different musical instruments. Aesthetics come from the visual, mechanical and tonal. Very very cool.
  4. @Jojo, that thing's a beauty! Very nice. In 1983 your bike and rider were beat for the Superbike Championships by Freddy Spencer on an HRC ride. Two of his mechanics at the time were Charlie McDonald and Mike Velasco. Mike was a real PITA but Charlie was a good friend of mine. He helped me build my bike and 600 miles later I blew up my motor. So we tore it down again and Charlie rebuilt it, and filled it with HRC factory parts. It's basically a 1983 Daytona-spec Superbike. He warned me that "you WILL kill yourself on this bike" if I didn't take it easy. I also needed a pipe to make it breath, so Kaz Yoshima hand-bent me a one-off pipe to work with Charlie's engine, and the thing is un-fricken-believable. At 10,000 rpms it sounds like the world is coming to an end. This is the basic configuration, but now the pipe is aluminum plasma coated.

Can you make mine a chocolate malt?
  6. I'd pass on those if I were you. The thickness of the material and its index of refraction is nowhere near correct. Go with a Clarks crystal... they're very very good.
  7. I think the low hanging fruit has all been plucked by the locusts here (cough). There are still gen Superdome Tropic 39s out there, but they're tough to find. And expensive. Clarks has come up with alternative pieces, and I did a side by side comparison a few years ago to show the differences.
  8. Ah, yer all a bunch of softies! Today the ever-delectable Ms. Nanuq and I celebrate our 25th anniversary. I've been scouring the jewelry stores for awhile and found the right piece. I went to pick it up today at noon, it's a platinum heart shaped necklace with a purple sapphire in the center surrounded by pave' diamonds, all set in a rose gold heart shape with chocolate pave' diamonds. It's really a stunner, and tonight I'm taking her up to Seven Glaciers restaurant to give it to her. It's at the top of Mount Alyeska, you have to take a tram to get up there and you're surrounded by mountains and seven glaciers. The sun will set around 12:30 tonight so we'll have a nice long evening together. Twenty five years... it's been great!
  9. Mmmmmmmm, microstella balance and engraving... who's the proud papa?
  10. Automatico, thanks for the nicely written reply. That is a wealth of valuable information, doubtless learned the hard way. I can hear Ubi scribbling it down as I type this..........
  11. Thanks! Now who wants to buy my verrrrrrry expensive unused Tropic-18?
  12. Bump for tropic crystals discussion ongoing.
  13. The crystals are different in height and diameter. I bought a gen tropic-18 and a tropic-16 to fit onto my 6536, and the tropic-16 fit like a glove. The tropic-18 has a prettier dome, but try as I might I could not make it fit my case. Too small. Tropic-18 and tropic-16. Or is it the other way around? Regardless, they're different diameters. Anyone need to buy my very expensive unused tropic domed crystal? Edit: I just bumped my old topic.
  14. IT'S SNOWING!!!!!!!!!!! (at least up on the mountain, right outside my window) Time to get out the skis again! Wahooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!
  15. Dials are a lot tougher than you'd think. I've used sandpaper on my LeJour to brighten up the surrounds at the hour indices.
  16. I dunno about you, but every Diesel watch I've ever seen has been electric. Not one of them burns #2 kerosene. "Diesel"? Hardly! These are electrics baby. Don't even get me started on Hummers.
  17. It's just marketing to the gullible. Like the 140mph rating on my daughter's speedometer... on her Toyota Corolla. I doubt her car could hit 140mph in a freefall and yet there it is.
  18. How about this? Barring that there are 19mm and 20mm oyster aftermarket bracelets out there and a dealer might sell you an extra link when you purchase. Is this contemporary or vintage?
  19. Roger that. It was in for service THREE TIMES at that AD, and you saw its condition. I know I've said it before (and before and before and before) but there is one man that I trust my valuable vintage watches to, and that is Ziggy. People on TZ and etc. say you have to use a RSC or an AD to get the paperwork for provenance, and to maintain their high value on the sales market. To that I say PFFFFFT. I don't own my watches for the faceless, nameless "next guy", I'm maintaining them for my kids. I want them to last forever, and Ziggy is the one that can make that happen. Good job, R. I promise I'll get my next 3 off to you soon... I know I'm way late for my appointment. Please don't sic J on me!
  20. Happy Fathers Day lads! I bet mine is the longest, with nearly 20 hours of daylight!
  21. Well said! To get around this I drive a Land Rover, whose bearings are apparently made from rubies too. MAN are they expensive!
  22. JoJo, I'm well down this same road, and only have one rep left. I've found the most satisfaction in my entire time here enjoying the reps community came when I gave the reps away. I sold a couple but the rest were all gifts. I found fun ways to do each one, and the joy the winners derived from winning a watch was worth far more to me than any price. Just my humble two cents, Nanuq
  23. Wing and a Prayer #2 This is how a supremely well-trained US Navy pilot, ice running in his veins instead of blood, fully regains control of his $70 million fighter jet, after a problematic vertical take-off attempt. Watch the rear vertical thruster fire to cause the problem. f_35.wmv
