  1. Okay boys, let's see what you've got for "close calls" in aviating. This one is perhaps the most amazing job of flying I've ever seen. If not this, then the next one for sure. Wing and a Prayer #1
  2. No surprise here, I can't pry this bad boy off my wrist!
  3. Learning a lot? That's an understatement. Just when I start to think I'm getting a handle on the intricacies of watches, POW!! Ubi takes it to a whole 'nother level.
  4. Gahhhhhhh! I need to get a gilt dial into my 1675!! That's toooooooo gorgeous.
  5. "Will consider trade for Sub or GMT"
  6. What was the topic yesterday? "You know you've been on RWG too long when..."?? ...when you understand what Nanuq's talking about here.
  7. That's a magnificent case. See how the "north" crown guard is thicker than the "south"? I love that about vintage Rolex. And the caseback stamping looks just like my Seadweller. Nice, nice, nice. Just when I had myself convinced that I DO NOT NEED ANOTHER WATCH... you post this. Thanks a lot.
  8. Ahhhhhh. You're right, the case differences will mess with your crystal options. Do you have calipers to measure the one you've got there? Who knows, maybe a gen will fit? How is the crystal affixed to the case? You might read up on the discussion we had as Freddy333 was building his 6542 GMT. He had a heck of a time getting the right attachment for crystal and bezel. If your crystal is held on like the gen, you can almost remove it with a pocketknife. Ubi did a great writeup about R&R for tropic crystals.
  9. Remember when Ponycar350 was giving away tropic 39 crystals? Ah, those were the days... "bulk orders available" Ponycar's crystals
  10. I've got a gen tropic 127. They're pretty readily available.
  11. Freddy, what I meant was, is the hole in the 6200/6204 insert the right size for an Ofrei pearl? I have two very tasty vintagized pearls sitting right here...
  12. Doc, that case sans lugholes is the closest you're going to find. It's not that big of a deal to drill holes if you have the tools for the job. The critical part for a "Bond" Sub is the thin case. The gen's rehaut is very very low, and the crown sits in the middle of the case, when viewed from the side. Like Freddy said, the Big Crown Bond (6538) uses a slightly thicker case, but if you go that route good luck finding a crown. It will be easier to build a 6536 for that reason alone, then you want the thinnest case possible, and a low domed crystal. The Silix case is best for overall shape, but the gen crystals don't fit. Plus the Silix case has a relief ground in around the crown, and that really needs to be flattened away to look right. It's a big task you've taken on, good luck! Here's a profile shot for you.
  13. ...when you recognize these people on other watch forums by their writing style.
  14. I'm 6'5" and my favorite watch is the 6536, same diameter as an Explorer-I. And nobody has ever told me that my watch is too small. My advice is to wear what you like. If people think it's too small let them be wrong. Tell 'em you don't waste size on nontrivial matters. Explorer-I all the way, baby.
  15. Ah, good question... I'm not sure. More is better, in my book It's a gen tropic 127, and the Clarks replacement is about identical for magnification... and 1/2 or 1/3 the price.
  16. Relumed hands and dial Check out the underside of an MBW stock crown guard... it droops down Here's one that does not "droop" for comparison Droop vs. non-droop
  17. And that pearl is smaller in diameter than the 1680/5513/1665 pearl, right?
  18. Freddy, is that rounded fonts insert from MY? I need to make that move too.
  19. Good idea Freddy... I had Ziggy do my hands and they're *perfect*
  20. Very, very nice. I really like the crown guards. Mine are all droopy on my gen, and yours look way better.
  21. They say a picture speaks a thousand words.............
  22. They say time flies when you're having heart palpitations...
  23. The Other George. And all this time people thought that TOG was for Turn-O-Graph.
