  1. Well then positive criticism it is! The one weakness is the retaining ring. Call a few machine shops and ask how much they'd charge to mill off a slice of brass tubing, cut the correct inside and outside diameters, machine a triangular outside face, and press that sucker down onto your case to replace the retaining ring you have now. You'll be surprised how cheap it is. It will also lower the overall height/thickness of the watch, which is absolutely key to these pieces. Have them mill the outer diameter so it's less than a snap fit for your bezel. Then you can play with hex spring configurations to get the right "snap" into place and to take up the slop. You can also experiment with how far down onto the case you press the retainer to get the right bezel clearances. As long as they're tooled up to do the deed, have them make 10 extras and *cough* sell them here to recoup your expenses. The market exists and DW might like the impetus to do it the RIGHT way. Of course YMMV so DW will have to adjust diameters so it presses over the crystal like Gen.
  2. Ah, it is not appropriate for me to pick apart your efforts here. I think it came out very, very well. Good job. However, when it's time to critique the DW project... THAT one has to be spot-on. Keep up the good work!
  3. You're absolutely right, and a well-timed post by T reminded me of the forum rules.
  4. Ummmmm, shouldn't SHE be carrying HIM? LR is right. Check your politics at the door.
  5. WOW did she come out nice! That would SO fit in my collection of old-timers. *cough* Well done!
  6. Stickley is where it's at. 'Nuff said.
  7. Hey amigo, life and RWG don't have to be mutually exclusive. Take some time away... We all do. This community is about far more than just watches. We're a lot more like a screwy family and *when* you come back, we'll still be here. Take care, friend. Priorities. Clear your head. Love those boys. -Nanuq
  8. Welcome! They say the way to a man's heart is through his watch box, so you've come to the right place.
  9. Call me eccentric but I think no toolset is complete without a few essentials: a good chainsaw, a double-bit axe, a pike, a 50-gal compressor and a good nail gun. ;-) Seriously, I admire your desire to dig in. It will make the hobby that much richer for you. Enjoy! PS: as mjmurphy says, you will never regret the money you spend on good tools.
  10. I posted it there and on TZ and someone came up with one other photo of the dial. She's a rare bird for sure.
  11. Ah, so my baby is NOT alone in the Universe! What's your take on the "mini" dial? I think it was transitional, just before the gold circled indices, with smaller lume dots in preparation.
  12. Are you sure you're not thinking of the cap from Johnnyboy's Thin Red Sharpie?
  13. ... a 1675 on a jubilee bracelet?

    9/11

Ah, thank you Stephane. I know exactly how you feel. I work in the field of national security and that was an ugly day. A lot more happened on that day that has not been reported... I don't relish those memories. Let us pray there will never be another attack like 9-11. God bless those "rough men who stand ready to do violence on our behalf."
  15. How about some Jack Bruce? In the white room with black curtains near the station. Blackroof country, no gold pavements, tired starlings. Silver horses ran down moonbeams in your dark eyes. Dawnlight smiles on you leaving, my contentment. Ill wait in this place where the sun never shines; Wait in this place where the shadows run from themselves. You said no strings could secure you at the station. Platform ticket, restless diesels, goodbye windows. I walked into such a sad time at the station. As I walked out, felt my own need just beginning. Ill wait in the queue when the trains come back; Lie with you where the shadows run from themselves. At the party she was kindness in the hard crowd. Consolation for the old wound now forgotten. Yellow tigers crouched in jungles in her dark eyes. Shes just dressing, goodbye windows, tired starlings. Ill sleep in this place with the lonely crowd; Lie in the dark where the shadows run from themselves.
  16. Ahhhhh, the knowledge is now yours.
  17. *stagger* You ARE kidding, aren't you? You mean to tell me you haven't experienced the saga of the TRL??? You may begin your education here: http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...1339&hl=TRL And continue it here: http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...7992&hl=TRL
  18. Yeah I definitely drew it wrong, the insert goes completely over the top of the famous Blue Lip. Hmmmm. You know there was a thread earlier about the TRL ... I wonder if this problem will take root too? The Problem of the Tall Blue Lip (TBL)!
  19. Magnificent! Well done.
  20. Okay I have the answer but it won't be easy. You grind down the blue lip then machine a thin groove in it around its perimeter. Then buy an assortment of *thin* e-clips and c-clips from the hardware store to fit inside the bezel and around the machined groove. There are a zillion sizes out there. You'll also use the original hexagonal retaining spring as a new spacer between the bezel and the e-clip. Trial and error will solve this. And lots of precise measuring and machining.
  21. Magnificent pieces!
  22. @Freddy: how about this?
  23. Sure thing! Always glad to help. Here's Joe Biden...
  24. On my case the crystal fits down around the rehaut lip and the retaining ring presses down over the whole mess. Do you think you can have someone machine a ring for you out of brass bar stock? It would be pretty easy.
  25. Here's the V727 that DW had last summer. Mucho expensive. Note the microstellas.
