  1. What happened in the end? I made just over 300 miles on the Iditarod Trail in the cold and snow, and I saw a LOT of wolf tracks. Happily the bears are all bedded down now. I frostbit the end of my nose (again) and my toes, and lost some skin, but it was great riding. Here's a photo of my new trail partner!
  2. Ah, that was in the news yesterday, the wolves have REALLY stepped it up this year. Lots of dogs have been killed. Where that attack happened is in the park where I ride my mtn bike every day. There are hundreds of miles of trails and nobody else out there. It's really wonderful and peaceful this time of year. I'll be out riding a few hours today, and I'll keep an eye peeled for the wolves. Not to worry. Merry Christmas all!
  3. Man, I dunno. I've seen dials like that one with the funky coronet and then I've seen dials with a coronet more like you'd expect to see. Check this gilt dialed 1016 that sold for $5,600 (item 170175417723). That one has the dial I expect to see. Yours just bugs me somehow. And for only $300 less than you can get a gilt dialed 1016? I'd pass. Sorry.
  4. Spectacular piece. I don't often envy other people's watches but wow that thing's nice. See if you can get a photo showing the pattern on the dial... that alone is worth the price! Enjoy!
  5. Did Rolex certify that's a gen dial? I'm not real happy with the "O" in ROLEX. But daaaannnnnng that's a beauty. If it has "Tenzing Norgay" engraved on the back, don't pass it up!
  6. Is the bezel on the SD thick enough? That crystal stands up so proud of the bezel it almost looks like a 1680 without a cyclops.
  7. I believe Usil got it right... they were stringing new wire and the moose was in the wrong place as they applied tension. The earliest stories said he was hit by a train on the tracks right there beside the pole, but that obviously didn't happen, not if he survived. That's one tough moose!
  8. The pearl looks sorta good, a bit off-center. Too bad they don't show the markers and tic-marks in a bigger view of the insert. If nothing else that's a source for pearls as long as the hole size is correct?
  9. Ah, but it gets 'em smooth as a politician's stump speech.
  10. I think we can blame this on .... Huckin' Kitty!!!
  11. Who knows? Maybe Santa is missing a team member? The really wild part is, the moose survived.
  12. You just can't make this stuff up. Real photo from near Ester, Alaska. That's a moose.
  13. The only watches I have that fog like that are NOT waterproof. Even strenuous mountain biking will cause moisture to get inside the cases. So I have to pop the back off, dry it overnight, then close it again. Then I try to remember not to wear those particular watches for anything fun. Check to make sure the caseback is screwed on good and tight.
  14. Well duh! There's no cupholder! Where are you supposed to rest your espresso while you polish with that tool? Here's the tool I use to polish crystals. It seems simpler, eh? And a shot from the backside.
  15. ...and if you have a vintage Sub with the cheap plated brass bezel, it should come out shining like new gold!
  16. Try "Softscrub". It's made to clean fine porcelain and it's a very mild abrasive. Also Meguiar's Mirror Glaze for auto polishing works well. Any fine abrasive is fine. Put some on the wet crystal, rub heck out of it with your thumb, rinse, dry, enjoy. I had some MASSIVE gouges on my 1665 and used a knife to scrape away plastic until the level of the gouges was reached, then I used Ajax cleanser (coarse abrasive) to smooth it a little, then used Softscrub (very mild abrasive) to achieve the final gloss finish. Easy squeasy.
  17. And then send ME that bracelet in the photos! I need one for my 6536....
  18. I like it... the GMT hand is correct in the stack and the case looks right. It's a little different than mine but mine is also a 1964. I'm not real happy with the GMT hand. It should be REALLY red and mine is a bit longer, so the root of the triangle at the end bisects the hour index dots. It might be nothing more than the newer design. Beautiful piece! Wanna trade something for that cheap and flimsy piece of junk bracelet?
  19. We mountain bikers are an odd sort.... The Famous Hucking Kitty thread
  20. Tell ya what... I'll send you as many nickels as you can carry. Deal?
  21. Do negative numbers count? I was dead before I started. Actually, did you guys see how FAST that thing gets going? Holy smokes!
