  1. Absolutely! But being gentlemen we'll just read each others' minds eh?
  2. A 1665 just looks "right" with a vintage narrow crown.
  3. Spectacular, AJ! I couldn't be happier that it got there safely. Now let's not forget the wristies from Dubai ... I want to see that beauty beside a Pagani.
  4. HAPPY BIRTHDAY RWG!!! Just for fun, here's the earliest entry I can find on the Internet Archive Wayback Machine... how we've changed over the years! http://web.archive.org/web/20060411092317/http://www.rwg.cc:80/members/
  5. My old buddy the Little Gonzo. He turns 60 this year.
  6. An insert that uses a pip with metal surround (basket) is for newer models. A 4-digit Submariner (551x) will not have the metal surround. Its pip is mounted directly into a hole in the insert. Consequently the inserts have different size holes. If you're feeling brave you can drill out the existing pip. Then mix some epoxy and add a dab of tint (like burnt umber) and place a drop into the drilled opening. It looks remarkably like the real deal.

  8. All's well that ends well! There's why this place exists.
  9. Like a stallion on steroids! Good thing this road was long!
  10. Those red indices are amazing. Great builds!
  11. Pure sex, AJ. That one, I *would* drive, and damn the backward roundabouts over there!
  12. Mine can too... but she's one hell of a shot. So I'm a good boy.
  13. We're pretty easygoing around here... the rules do say No Politics and Religion but we all pretty much ignore that. And we can, because we treat each other with respect and threads never devolve into insult matches. You guys don't get chased by bears? My Mossberg 12ga goes everywhere in the woods with me nowadays, and I can honestly say I've never had to use it... but I was darn glad to have it.
  14. Ahhhhh you touched on CGs. There's where all the case sets get it wrong... a gen 1665 has very unique crown guards and the ones we get aftermarket are always modeled after a 1680. [emoji13]
  15. I was also thinking because it's a bracelet pin, maybe it's just filthy and dirt is holding it in there. Boil the hell out of it and see if that frees it up?!
  16. Wow this is like old home week. BEER'S ON THE HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lemme just unlock the liquor cabinet.... (checks pockets) Alright dammit, who has the key to the champagne fountain? Ken!!!!
  17. I found an old topic where some of our long-gone gurus gave good advice.
  18. Mahler! What a pleasure seeing you again!
  19. Lovely indeed, so much so that I wear it all the time... so I had it on during hockey practice a couple weeks ago, and spent an hour practicing slapshots... and broke the movement holders! Sheesh I didn't even know that's possible. So now it's off at the spa getting some loving. Back home soon!
  20. Here's a blast from the past from Chez Nanuq, who remembers this dynamic duo?
  21. Hunt around on the forum for an MBK 1680, cost maybe $450. Then buy that pretty Red Sub dial that's for sale right now, $108. Get a set of Classic Watch Parts hands for $50 and have the MBK serviced and assembled by Misiekeped for another $250 or so. You're into it for well under a Grover and it will fool everyone but the pickiest of WIS (of which there really are very few). That's the route I'm taking.
  22. If that doesn't work try soaking it in a strong alum solution. I doubt that springbar tip is as tough as the stainless of the bracelet, and it will eventually get eaten away. Search for other discussions we've had here about these problems. Other uses are for when a crown stem breaks off inside a crown. Alum eats it right up.
