question for rolex vintage experts..which 1665 dial is this?
panerai153 replied to chronobam's topic in The Rolex Area
I would bet that the dial is at least a refinished gen. that blank is a gen blank. Someone cut the dial feet off to use witha non genuine movement. Go over to the VintageRolex Forum and look at the Rolex Dial archives http://www.network54.com/Forum/538134/ this is the page for White SD dials, they have other pages for a whole lot of other model Rolex dials as well. -
If you want to sell, it's pretty hard to give you a value unless you have a build sheet with all the prices. Actually, if you do have the information, you can come up with a figure yourself. Tally up what yo spent and then see how close that is to what you think it's worth. If you have parts and labor of 1K, then try it out on the sales forum at 1K, if it sits there with no activity, you may reduce the price a bit and see. Rep prices for frankens are pretty strange birds. Sometimes a popular watch will come up for sale at what i would consider a high price, and it sells in a few hours, others which to me are more competitively priced will hang around for weeks, sometimes never get sold. Another thing, when you deal with frankens, the higher the price, the smaller the buyer pool. A 200.00 USD rep will sell, because it's in the range of Impulse buys. When you get up over 500 or sso, folks start to really think,"is this what I really want or can afford?" When you get up into the 1k plus range, the buying pool really starts to get small. So don't be surprised if you get a lot of "tire kickers" but not too much real interest. If you ask too much at the onset, it will never sell. Remember the gen black snowflake is not a terribly expensive watch. while it has gotten pricier in the past few years, a good one can still be had for around 3K or less, especially without a bracelet. If you ask 1500 USD, a fair number of folks will say, for another 1000, I can buy a gen. And finally, GLWS

Very cool cufflinks for the watch lover!

Where did you find these? Pretty nice. -
It's pretty irritating to see repetative posts with lots of photos, Some guy posts witha "Quote" and you have to scroll down a page ull of photos you just lookedat a few minutes before, asdn at the end his quote is "WOW!! beautiful watch!!" Just use the reply button, and you'll be fine. Nothinig wrong with quoting, i do it all the time, but only with a text quote, never one that has a bunch of photos. Welcome to the forum.

Certainly to each his own. The snowflakes are and important part of Tudor history, and most Tudor collectors feel like their Tudor collection is not complete without a Snowflake or two. Snowflakes were also among a select few watches that were issued to military units. The Snowflake was issued to the French Navy (MN)
I have several Tudors, a couple of reps and a. Gen 9411/0 Blue Snowflake
Here is mine.

I believe that what you need to do is look very carefully at the descriptions and photos. There are obviously some differences in each of those models, differences may be subtle, but differences. you can then from that research decide which flaws you can live with and which you cannot live with. If you cannot abide an incorrect hand stack, then you need to buy one with CHS. It may have a CHS, but not and AR'ed cyclops. None of them are going to be perfect. Just not gonna happen. that's what drives us to mod our watches, trying to fix the mistakes that the factories refuse to address! As sneed12 told me, "I buy a bunch of watches, tear them all apart and use the best parts to make a better one, put the others back together and sell them on".

Where to get a good stainless steel strap for new Sub
panerai153 replied to danny_partner's topic in The Rolex Area
he probably was, but how do we know that? There have been several good threads lately about the different bracelets and comparisons of different bracelets, why not read that first and then you are able to ask more directed questions rather than "Who has the best steel Strap" Which in it's proper nomenclature is a S/S bracelet. -
Gen flat 4 have weaker pearl lume then pointy 4?
panerai153 replied to Erict719's topic in The Rolex Area
Some manufacturers,Not Rolex. All GenRolex watches with SL that i have seen have uniform "glow" on hands and dial. -
Thanks Freddy, The NATO is definitely temporary, sneed12 is sending me the correct bracelet that came with the case. It should be back on a correct Oyster bracelet in a few days. This NATO was sort of a spur of the moment choice, it happened to be around and easy to put on.

I really don't have much to add to the great thread that Sneed12 started about my GMT IIC. I do want to say Sneed did a wonderful job putting this watch together. I'm very happy with it, and this one will be a keeper for sure. I'm a GMT fanatic anyway, so this one sort of tops off the modern end of my collection. I got the watch back yesterday, and I have to say the genuine bezel/insert are much more impressive on the watch and in person than the photos. As you can see in the photos, the watch is on a two piece striped NATO. that's because I encountered a little problem when the watch got here. the first thing after unpacking it, I tried to put the bracelet on, couldn't wouldn't go. I was getting pretty exasperated, "Why won't this Damn bracelet go back on, It has been changed, off and on several times", then it dawned on me, this is a different case"!! This is a gen construction case that Sneed sold me in order to use the geb bezel/insert. I looked at another case that's the same as my old one, and sure enough, the lug holes are further back and higher on the old one. the end links were probably 1.5-2 mm too shallow for the new case. I even tried grinding off some of the inside of the end link, but I got all the way through the lip and was into the body of the end link and it was still too shallow. I needed another .5mm and I was out of material to grind. Next step, Email sneed to see if he stil had the bracelet that came with my new case. Luckily he did, and hopefully in a few days, my GMT IIC will be back on a nice bracelet , and I'll put paid to this project (At least for now. Later on, I'm going to try to find a new model with the correct hand stack and hopefully get Sneed to do a movement transplant) But that's another chapter for another day.

great build! I believe most 1680 builds suffer from the left justification "Blues" i know mine did. I resorted to a genuine dial and that helped some. mine has one of the old MBW silver DW,s no overlay, and iwanted to keep that if posssible. I truluy believe the only solution to perfect DW alignment in the 1680 is a gen dial, gen movement and gen DW!! Starts getting real expensive to fix a small problem.

Where to get a good stainless steel strap for new Sub
panerai153 replied to danny_partner's topic in The Rolex Area
Again,Please read and do some research. First off what sub, is it a 5508,6538,5513,5517,1680,16800.16610,116610,(And this is just a short list!!!) because all of those take a varierty of bracelets. Does it have SEL's or hollow end links, do you want a rivet, folded hollow mid link or solid end link bracelet? Does it have an Oyster clasp, Oyster clasp with fliplock, or a Glidelock? See what I mean, how in the world do you think we can help you if you don't give us more information. -
Although they are super comfortable, i have never been a big fan of Jubilees. I supose they are OK, but I don't think they are the best choice for a Daytona.I LOVE your Daytonas though. You could wear those with a piece of hay twine and they would look good!!

Gen flat 4 have weaker pearl lume then pointy 4?
panerai153 replied to Erict719's topic in The Rolex Area
I would bet that this is a problem with a lot of watches that have mis-matched dials/hands. One manufacturer uses more SL or a better grade, and their dials or hands glow brighter and longer.the other guy uses less and maybe a lesser quality and the results are less glow and shorter duration. I have even see this on genuine watches, the hands are brighter than the dial indices. Indicates that the dials and hands were sourced from two different locations, probably came already lumed.Lots of factors determine brightness and duration of glow.Quality of the lume material, same lume or a different lume like mixinig C1 and C3, as well as the amount of lume applied. -
Gen flat 4 have weaker pearl lume then pointy 4?
panerai153 replied to Erict719's topic in The Rolex Area
Sorrry , I didn't make it quite clear enough. my pearl/dial/hands are SL. What he might have is a lumi pearl on the flat 4 and a SL pearl on the other. both will glow, just the lumi will not be as bright.Hard for folks to understand my Southern shorthand writing !!! -
Some people should be on an International " banned" list, just because they are too stupid and too impatient to be involved with rep purchases. I do think that it would be good if sellers explained to buyers that Air Mail is slow and not traceable until it gets to the country of destination.

Gen flat 4 have weaker pearl lume then pointy 4?
panerai153 replied to Erict719's topic in The Rolex Area
Your flat 4 is probably has a tritium pearl. I have a gen 16610 from 2000 and the pearl is as bright as the dial/hands lume -
Andy, not sure, but this case is specifically for a 7750 mvmt. DW removes the rotor to fit the case. Everyone who builds these also removes the auto wind mechanism as well. I contacted ziggy and he didn't express any reservations about the build. I got the case from denimhead and he also told me a Tricompax 7750 was the correct mvmt. We'll see pretty soon.case is here, dial and movement are in transit.
