I believe what you said about "depreciation is a very valid point. For whatever reason, some watch brands hold their value very well over time. Rolex for example has seen the prices of their older watches continue to increase in value over the years. Of course within a brand, there are some models that are "hotter" than others and like everythiing else, On model can be white hot for a while and then the popularity wanes and the prices level off or go down. On the other hand there are some brands, and quite a few of them are well known, that seem to lose about 30-40 % of their value almost as soon as you walk out the door with them. It all depends on what's popular and desirable. I've had a couple of instinces over the years where I bought a watch that I really liked, but when it came time to move it on, I realized I was in a very small group of folks that were brand enthusists. Consequently, I ended up taking a beating on those particular watches. Not sure where Breitling fits in the great scheme of things, but I would think that they are not a household word type brand. They must have slipped in popularity, because I know of one very well known jewelry chain locally owned but in about 3-4 states that used to be a big Breitling dealer, but they dropped the brand about 5-6 years ago.

Wow, this one is Baaaad. As said above a rep IIC bezel/insert (and a bad one at that) The dial is terrible, the plots look like donuts the surrounds are so thick, the watch is obviously a cheap 16710 with a 116710 bezel/insert. Plus about a dozen other "tells". Call the seller and tell him you are really interested n his watch, could he meet you at your local Rolex AD so they can have a quick look to veify the authenticity!! He'll probably hang up the phone, or give you about a million excuses why he can't meet you.I would love to hear that conversation!!

I know that we have lots of cliches to describe just about everything, but some are really true. Adversity is the fire that tempers the steel in your heart, mind and body. You and your family will come out of this closer and stronger and someday you will look back and say that job loss may have been the best thing that ever happened to me.It may have closed one door, but it gave you the will to go out and kick one open that was even bigger and better

the case markings are for a GMT IIc, the rep makers probably used the same case for several different models in the lower priced lines

That's a great one. Piece of advice DON"T let nanug anywhere near it, he has a concealed hammer permit, Suddenly, out of nowhere, there's a hammer and wack, crash bam, your beautiful new old watch is pasturized ,homogenized vandelized, but nor simonized!! nanug vintigizing service service strikes again!!

Finally got a bracelet on my GMT IIC, so I've been wearing it a lot ther past few days. I was outside today, sort of mixed overcast and some sun. I decided to take a few photos since my only photos since it came back from sneed12 were with a "Bond" NATO, which is definitely NOT the right strap for this watch. At any rate I'm taking a few photos and I see this on the LED screen. Is it a black hole a white hole or just a plain old hole? You be the judge Even if you can't see the numbers to tell the time, you will always know what day it is!!

Very sorry to hear about your job loss. Don't let this diminish the wonderful new addition to your family on the way.
Remember too sometimes a door closes only to let others open.
The best of luck with your new baby and your search for a new career.

Go to Expedia, type in Mid town Manhattan hotels, you will get a list of a hundred or more. September might be a good time to go as school has satarted here, and the tourists (at least the USA ones have all gone home). I would try to stay a little uptown more toward central park, not as crowded as Times Square, and possibly a little cheaper.

Rolex 1655 to 16750 Birthday Project Build - Pictorial...
panerai153 replied to justlounging's topic in The Rolex Area
the biggest problem with 1675 and 16750 builds is the crown. there is a big difference between the 5.3 mm and 6 mm crown. I have a gen 16750 and the 5.3 is tiny!! When you put a 5.3 mm crown in a case made for a 6mm crown the gap between the crown and crown guards is very noticeable, maybe not by the average person, but anyone with any knowledge of plexi GMT's will know. It's too bad that the rep manufacturers have never made a decent case for a 1675/16750. If you have someone who can laser weld, they can build up the insides of the crown guards to make it work, sort of like some folks are making old Rolex cases look brand-new by building up the lugs and restoring the correct bevel to the top of the lugs. -
1655 Explorer II "Guru's" opinions/advise/expertise needed Please.
panerai153 replied to correctime's topic in The Rolex Area
I saw a post a while back where some guy took a gen 16750 and changed out the bezel, hands, etc to make a 1655. he used all gen parts. This is certainly doable, but I wou d bet that you will be at 6-7K by the time you are finished. Being a GMT fan, I think this is foolish, but to each his own,! -
I sent him and email a month or two back, never got and answer. I was looking to buy a Daytona but I decided not to go that route Personally, I'm disinclined to try to do business with folks who will not keep up a line of communication. There are plenty of people out ther who appreciate your business and do their best to keep you in the loop.

Guys I'm looking at a watch (on another forum) that's owned by a fellow in Greece. He has had 3 recent transactions that all went well, however I have some concerns about shipping from Greece.Does anyone have any experience and or recent transactions from Greece. The seller wants to ship via Registered Mail which is not my favorite. Any suggestions. He told me that EMS would be 40 Euros more,, does this sound correct? Thanks

I try to reply to PM's ,trouble is I don't visit every forum every day, so I might have a PM in my inbox on Repgeek or WUS for a week or two. Not because I don't want to answer, just don't see the message. One thing I've learned in all these years, you never know who your next customer will be. The guy you ignore, may be just the fellow that would buy your sales watch, or has a part you need. I learned a few of life's lessons the hard way, and one of those I learned was don't burn your bridges. AFA replying to posts, If I have a sales thread up, I will do my best to answer every inquiry, even the low ballers, who just get a simple , "not interested in your offer'. In the case above, the seller said CONUS only, but suppose that watch languishes on the forum for several weeks and several price drops, maybe the idea of selling outside the CONUS is not such a bad idea.If you replied the first time, possibly a return PM later asking if the guy was still interested, Might generate a sale after all.

what has happned to some dealers here lately?
panerai153 replied to horologist's topic in General Discussion
Some of the dealers have gone to different servers and different domain names. Those guys get hacked and their sites get cloned by scammers, and the genuine watch and apparel manufacturters have "seized' some of the dealer sites. I would expect that it's mostly just a PITA for them. If they are operating out of China,Hong Kong, etc. they certainly aren't too worried about LVMH, Swatch group and Rolex USA's lawyers. More of a concern would be if the new Chinese administration decides that replicas are bad for business and the crackdowns in China really get serious. -
Here's mine

I wish you did too!! I would love to build a Val 72 Daytona, but parts are so crazy, I' afraid as my wife says, "your train is gone",,

There are tons of soft cases around. I would look at a 4 watch case, smaller and the size you really need for travel. No need to carry around a big case for a few watches.
Check EBay and Amazon.

question for rolex vintage experts..which 1665 dial is this?
panerai153 replied to chronobam's topic in The Rolex Area
There.are better white SD dials out there. I'm not sure how good the ingod dials are for the SD, Maybe Freddy can chime in about sourcing a dial, he has a great DRSD dial on his 1665.
