  1. Ohhh geez, thanks for reviving the 1655 fever! Cheers my friends!
  2. There is a difference. OEM Superdome still reigns supreme. Glad I have one tucked away.
  3. Military watches are my FAVORITE pastime. Yes, I did yell "FAVORITE". I love them, I love them, I love them. I started off this hobby by solely collecting them, and I continue to collect them and most anything that I've bought that is new (not vintage) is military-inspired. Black dials only. That's how I do it. One of my faves: Breguet Type XX I still wear this 42mm diameter baby often! Look at the airplane propellor!! Sheesh!!! What a gorgeous toolwatch! Uhhhh... How about some super accurate Accutron action? I wear this pilot's watch often. 42mm Pilot watch. Yup, an Art Deco masterpiece. At least once a week I've been wearing this for 7+ years. Need I even mention Juan Trippe's gem of the Jet Age? How many Pan Am pilots flew wearing this? How many military pilots and commerical pilots flew with this? Chuck Yeager broke the speed of sound with this!!! How about some more contemporary issued watches! Or how about a Teutonic classic that only a select few of the finest soldiers on earth wore? When dropping payloads in WWII, someone, in a state of panic, checked the time with this... I wear this one often, too. Nice silver plated case. We all know that Raquel Welch made this famous. But did she really? Probably not since there were many brave test pilots who tested the boundaries with this one: Feel like diving? Feel like joining the ranks? If so, you might've picked this one. At least, a non-modified version. This is the #1 most used military watch in the world. Of course, you have to supply it. WWI Trench Warfare anybody? Lucky Germans and their cool issued watches: Anybody care to explore Greenland with the British Ministry Of Defence? Ordinance WWW style??? Scary Germans and their navigational mirror reverse dials. Scary Waffen ".." dial. South African Issue. Note the coolest dial layout EVER for Lemania 5100: Romantic Officer nights with a special lady by the fire... NATO Issue Pilot Chronograph. Yes, the infamous Anondized Beauty! The real deal! And look closely: Surprise! Lemania 5100! Last but certainly not least... When fightin' the Contras...
  4. Here are some of my large vintage hi-dome acrylic crystals. They are mostly over 42mm in diameter. Of course, the only non-vintage is the Frankenjones.
  5. There is something lovely about the warmth that acrylic lends to a vintage watch. There is nothing quite like it. Anyhow, there are 2 ways to install an acrylic crystal. Which method you use will depend upon what kind of acrylic crystal you have. The first method applies to a crystal that has is a 'pressure-fitted' type. You would need to use a crystal retaining device that squeezes the crystal from all sides to a slightly smaller diameter than your case. You insert the crystal and release the device's grip. The crystal will be firmy installed into your case. This is a very common way to fit acrylic crystals, in fact, most vintage watches have crystals installed like this. And this is the best way to install an acrylic crystal. Why? Because your crystal won't pop off (which can happen with glued crystals). The second method is to install a crystal that fits into the case, but one that fits somewhat loosely. This is the type of crystal that you should glue to the case. It can be a little messy despite using a glue made for crystals (such as GS Crystal Glue). This is an easy method, and you might end up having to install your cystal this way if you can't find a properly exact fitting crystal. Here are the tools for the job. They are inexpensive and worth having. Cheers PS. If you ever want to sell and/or trade your watch, please let me know!
  6. FWIW, my avatar is my great uncle. Shot down and killed in WWII over Luzon. I have his flight journals. And a sketchbook of his. We are oddly very close. Makes sense? Perhaps not to you, the reader of this post. But to me, it all makes sense. Cheers
  7. Oops, double post. Sometimes this happens, and i never understand why
  8. Wow, I'd always thought that your crystal was acrylic! What nonsense to put anything else but acrylic Anyhow, u probably should bring the watch to a watch supply warehouse so that u can have a crystal fitted for you. Alternatively, pop out the crystal and measure the case where the crystal fits with digital calipers. Then u can mail order a crystal. Cost is less than $10. The only trouble with mail order is u can't see or really specify how much of a dome you'd like. I highly recommend this mod though. I did it to my black IWC Jones frankenwatch. Check the archives for my thread if u want to see before and after pics. Cheers PS. Vintage watches only have acrylic crystals

  10. If it's the same one, then it's inaccurate. Dial and hands are wrong. I like the bracelet though, wish the MBW came with one. Cheers
  11. I bet that's a fun ride to drive! Cheers
  12. Hi vbarrett Pug, that was one of the ads. There was another one that said something to the effect of: "It's not your fault if the 8 day Pellaton winding system fails after 8 days of not wearing the watch." The watch is pictured on a hotel bedside table with sheets strewn everywhere, flight attendant's sexy uniform pieces all over the floor, etc...
  13. Nice beast. What's different with the lite version aside from the pricetag and ceramic and AR?
  14. I think I'm gonna break down and buy one. if anything, I need something to tie me over until the elusive Aquatimer gets released. Any suggestions as to where? Also, anybody have the BR-03 with white without the Limited Edition printed on the dial?
  15. Dope. Sign me up. I want a pair. Repped, of course.
  16. Are you referring to the one that he's had for a while with the metal bracelet?
  17. It's one hot watch! I'm wearing mine as I type right now! Enjoy
  18. They are different breeds, so to speak. The Watch Boys straps are identical to OEM, and in fact, are actually better made than OEM! If you want the "stock" look, go for The Watch Boys. 2 bands stick out in my mind: the buffalo grain Mark XV strap and their Alligator straps. Like I said, they are the same specs as OEM, but superbly made and priced really low. If you are looking for something that is customized for the 3717, like a Big Pilot style strap, then go for HKtan. He makes the best Big Pilot straps period. They are thick, perfectly cut and, of course, the leather is of the finest quality. Cheers
  19. Me, too. I want it, I want it I've been tempted to buy the real thing, but alas, my car restoration projects call for all of my extra cash for upgrades... Cheers
  20. Arrrrgh! This hobby will drive me to take a long walk on a short pier! I think I'm gonna stick to restoring cars. At least I know what I'm getting myself into...
